Welcome one and all to our 7th thread :)

If you're just starting out or you've been following WW for a while and you're looking for support you've come to the right place!

There are lots of regulars who are well on their weigh (get it! ) Grin and others who have just joined us - we're a mixed bag, all shapes and sizes and all with different goals to achieve but we're all striving for the same thing. We're all here to will one another on with advice, support and lots of cheering!

Androbbob is our resident stat checker and keeps us motivated by totting up the total weight loss each week.

we have lost an amazing amount since jan 2011 Shock

We're quite fast moving at times so just dive in - pour yourself a Wine or [cuppa] and make yourself at home

OP posts:
vnmum · 27/06/2011 10:52

sookie try looking at an old picture of yourself that you do not want to look like again. That is enough motivation for me, and track, track, track

hmc · 27/06/2011 11:58

Sookie - don't beat me up if I speak candidly Grin

You see I reckon it is a mistake to see food as a treat when you are going out for special occasions - i.e. as something you reward yourself with. That's getting into the 'food and emotions' link which made most of us gain weight - e.g. - I've had a bad day so I'll cheer myself up with something nice to eat, or I've worked hard this week so I deserve some gateau, its a special occasion so bring on the chips! Perhaps you could see the going out as still being a treat, but only in the sense of the company, the breaking bread with friends, the not having to cook etc ...rather than as the naughty but nice stuff on the menu? If I go out for a meal I chose the healthy options on the menu - its definitely not all dry salad without dressings, I still eat some really delicious meals. I think I am saying a similar thing to Bartlett - i.e. it has to be a way of life and not a diet

Feel free to disagree and I hope I haven't irritated you with these comments ...

supercal · 27/06/2011 12:14

Hi all

I'm definitely going to join you on here but next week, as this week Im going away.

What would you say is the best day to start and weigh in on? Do most of you start on Monday?

I'm going to be doing WW online

TIA

PrettyMeerkat · 27/06/2011 12:49

My day is Tuesday. That was random though.

Littlefish · 27/06/2011 12:52

Very wise words hmc.

My holiday, plus weekend away in cornwall feel like they are catching up with me.

Although I'm currently 1lb down from before the holiday etc. I feel very bloated today and am pretty sure I've put on this week.

I still feel positive about it though, I've tracked and eaten well this week (in spite of a barbeque, and a fish & chip meal!), so I know that I'll lose again next week - this is just a little blip. I'll find out the facts at tomorrow night's weigh in. Smile

vnmum · 27/06/2011 13:24

very wise words hmc
wlcome supercal I WI on a thurs morn, but thats just because that was when my meeting was. I like it towards the end of a week because you get a fresh lot of weeklies for the weekend and if you do happen to over indulge you have a few days before WI to pull it back

HattiFattner · 27/06/2011 16:59

whoop! Despite going our for Thai food on Friday and having a very yummy but not good for me paella on Sunday, I lost 5lbs this week (week 2).

My points allowance has dropped again, from 34 initially to 31.

Managing to be sensible - fancied a glass of wine last night, but realised I was probably over already, so didnt (virtuous smiley) - cant believe how many points in a glass of plonk, so my liver will feel better for this diet way of life.

vnmum · 27/06/2011 17:59

well done hatti, thats a good loss

Right guys, I need some help. I need some ideas for fancy dress for a las vegas theme for my summer ball, for me and DH.
Any ideas gratefully recieved

LolaLadybird · 27/06/2011 18:06

hmc and bartlett - those are very wise words. I still see food as a treat and want to eat 'nice' food when out doing 'nice' things. I'm not sure I'll ever completely get over that but at least I'm aware of it and am getting better at self-checking myself when I have those sorts of thoughts.

Littlefish - loving the positive attitude

Supercal - I weigh on a Tuesday. I sometimes wish it was later in the week because it would give me more time to make up for any transgressions at the weekend but weighing early in the week probably does help to keep me slightly in check

So I'd really like some advice on going to a meeting verses WW online. At the moment I WI at a meeting on a Tuesday morning but it doesn't really work for me. Tuesday is one of my 2 non-work days and it means I end up dashing around in the morning, with DS (3) in tow, to get to WW before going to toddler group when I'd really prefer it to be relaxed time with DS. Also, because I have him with me, I never stay so don't feel like I'm really getting any added value - literally just the getting on the scales. I've looked at other meeting but I live in quite a rural area and the ones that are close enough are just not at convenient times.

What I'd like to do is give up the meetings and just use WW online (at the moment I use e-source anyway which I find fab for tracking). The big question is whether I'll be able to stay as disciplined without the fear of getting on the scales in front of others once a week? I would love your thoughts. I'd especially like to know if those of you who are at, or nearly at, gold have done it without attending meetings. The fact I am on this thread makes me feel more positive about it as I would still have the support of all of you and the accountability of having to report back each week Grin.

Long post - sorry ...!

LolaLadybird · 27/06/2011 18:09

Whoops, mean to also say well done to Hatti Smile

NorkyButNice · 27/06/2011 20:42

May I join you all here?

I'm planning to go along to a meeting on Weds lunchtime to join up yet again. I'm the worst advert for WW there is I think as this is the 4th time I've enrolled (losing minimum 4 stone each time) but never reach my goal and put it all back on.

I have a totally unhealthy relationship with food, either over-eating or starving myself. Before falling pregnant last year I was 12 stone and the thinnest I've ever been - I dread to think what I am now but reckon 16st minimum. The most I've ever weighed in at was 18st (and that was after doing a months detox) and I need to fix myself now before I get there again.

DH is overweight too so he's signing up online.

Looking forward to losing weight with you all!

Choccybick · 27/06/2011 22:25

Hi everyone

thanks for greater insights on marmite points..... i will go easy. a tablespoonful would make me squirm anyway. too strong. a teaspoon per pc of toast is okay.

WynkenBlynkenandNod ooh yeah Cologne is a lovely city. Ive lived here 15 years now. Sounds exciting meeting up with family after so long.
No idea if the UK and German points are now totally the same (i think more than they were in the past) but acc. to my online version of ww it spits bienenstich out at 9 pp per 100g piece. (based on cake in a café or ice cream parlor) and some brands eg. aldi and other chains are anywhere from 6, 7, to 9 points a piece.

thats one long walk you have to make to make up for your cake - but what the heck - its holiday and we only live once (yes, i am the queen of excuses, as you might have noticed on my blog) I share your passion for many a German cake, but Bienenstich hasnt really done anything for me yet. Smile
I had a proud moment today. Was at a conference all day for work in hotel and didnt touch CAKE or biscuits.

funny - a lot of us have Tuesday as weigh in - i weigh on a Tuesday too ( the other days I just get on and scream)

Norkybutnice good luck for your 1st meeting.

night folks

Choccybick · 27/06/2011 22:35

..me again. Just wanted to give Lolaladybird my thoughts.
I used to go to the groups, but my job makes me somewhat inflexible regarding times. I registered online for my new ww round at the beginning of the year and it was a bit of a struggle sometimes trying to discipline myself.
maybe im not the right person to comment because i havent really stuck to it much, but still 5 kilos have gone....despite not really sticking to it much.

Ive been making a new start at it this past week and have been good doing my online diary and will do the weigh in tomorrow.
i do really think that i tend to cheat more than when i go to a meeting, but here it is really expensive (11 euros i think now) and online 15 euros a month. big difference. especially as i didnt really make use of the meeting, always dashing off and not participating. the money isnt really a big factor, but sometimes i was paying monthly and not going at all last year so i decided not to continue. thats why i went for the online version this time.
i get my DH to keep me under control and some online friends too.

they always say where theres a will, theres a way. im sure you will find the support here too.

:-)

good luck with your decision

debs39 · 27/06/2011 23:25

Have just spent hrs catching up on 7wks plus worth of this and previous thread...hooted with laughter at blondes admission to 137 pp one day...go girl!!! ps reporting in 6lb gain but have happily acquired these as am now officially 12wks pregnant!! wonder how many more go on by jan 9th ha ha....ps only know weight as sonographer weighed me today...scales been gathering dust in the cupboard since i got that extra blue line showing up on the pregnancy test on april 7th!!!! glad i at least got a boozy toast to wills and kate on royal wedding day though!!!

bringmesunshine2009 · 28/06/2011 07:25

yes its a way of life, helthy eating has to be. But Disagree about food not being a reward. Yes you can go out and choose healthy options etc. But lets face facts, chips taste better than lettuce. The thought of never having a lovely blow out ice cream sundae ever again is depressing beyond words. Occasional treats.

Pinkglow · 28/06/2011 09:28

LolaLadybird - I'm on online member as my husband works shifts so I would only be able to go to meetings a couple of times a month.

I love it and I have managed to stick to it no problem. The online food tracker is good which helps alot but its more the forums that are the biggest motivator. I tend to go on there everyday as everyone is really supportive and I have picked up some great tips. Some people like the meetings and others get on better online so you could always try being an online member and if you dont like it then go back to meetings?

herdingcats · 28/06/2011 09:41

Hello everyone. trying to catch up ,but failing miserablyGrin. We've been very busy here what with MIL staying ,then when she went home my big sis and BIL arrived. Peace and quiet is resumed now ,thank goodness.
I have realised how unhealthy all my visitors are during their stays, with regards to food. Shock I thought even before I started WW ,we were not that bad on food front compared to them, but now I seem to notice it even more. Taking into account my BIL is meant to eat very well as he has already nearly died with very severe heart attack, all they eat is crap. Yesterday he scoffed cake, scones and pork scratchings over and above all the normal food I did. honestly I was worried about my sisters attitude to it all,as she reckons she has made their diet more healthyHmm
WI tomorrow for me ,hoping to get a little loss, but my leader did warn my blowout last week at the ball may catch up with me. So will grin and bear a gain or STS.
Good luck all Smile
Sorry about my long post

PrettyMeerkat · 28/06/2011 11:21

I posted a hour or so ago and it's disappeared!

Anyway what I said was that I weighed myself this morning and I don't seem to have lost anything much. It's hard to tell accurately on my scales as they are unreliable so you can't see tiny changes.

I said up thread that I haven't been losing and have been following WW for weeks and weeks so I decided to cut out the weeklies and just have dailies. I decided halfway through this week so only had 7 weekly points but have still lost nothing!

There is only so long you can stay motivated when nothing is happening!

(only have 8lb to lose but it really shows on me as I am short and have a small build)

vnmum · 28/06/2011 14:08

congratulations debs
pretty are you drinking enough water? sometimes you need to drink alot of water to flush the fat out. also is your diet carb heavy? some people have found that if they lower their carb intake it helps to start the weight moving

assumpta · 28/06/2011 14:14

Hi, I have read all your posts with great interest, and everyone is doing so well. I rejoined ww 3 weeks ago with 12 pounds to lose. The first week I lost 2 pound and the second week I was away and could not weigh in, at my last weigh in on Monday I had lost half a pound. This is the first time I have done the pro points plan, and I find it ok, but here comes my big downfall, Wine I really enjoy my glass of wine in the evening, once the kids are in bed and everywhere is tidy, I like to sit and sip. I know that a medium glass is 4 points, I know that I am probably slightly over that measure, I do count my points into my daily allowance, but I feel that it is going to stop me from losing weight at a pace I would like. Does anyone have any nice wine alternatives, they do not have to contain alcohol of any kind, but just taste like a treat. I am fed up with diet coke, diet lilt etc. Thank you.

LolaLadybird · 28/06/2011 16:32

Assumpta - how about gin and slimline tonic? This has become my lower-point alternative to drinking wine. Also, elderflower cordial with sparkling mineral water is lovely on a warm day.

BartletForAmerica · 28/06/2011 17:06

bringmesunshine, I completely agree that I'd rather eat chips than lettuce, but I think the difference is (to try) not to see food as a reward, to eat chips because you actually want to eat chips, rather because you want chips as a reward/treat.

Hmm, not making myself very clear - perhaps I'm thinking along the Paul McKenna theory here?

pretty, is it worth being really strict about measuring things for a week? Perhaps things have slid a little? I know I can cut corners a bit when I've been doing the same thing for a while.

Littlefish · 28/06/2011 20:06

Well, weigh in went better than I expected. I've stayed the same this week. My period is due today/tomorrow, so I'm hoping to have a good 2lb weight loss next week if I am careful and keep weighing and tracking.

Bartlet - I'm going to take your advice to pretty. I'm going to try and be really strict with myself this week.

wizzler · 28/06/2011 21:38

Littlefish.. I am the same as you... stayed the same this week. I only have 3 lbs to go to goal and I am finding them the toughest of all to shift.

Pretty... do you know any WW experts who could look at your tracker for you ?

Debs.. am so happy for you... makes me feel all broody again!

Welcome Norky.. you are not the only one of us on here who has lost weight with WW in the past... but the reason we all DO come back is that we know it works... good luck for tomorrows meeting .. hope the scales arent too bad!

hmc · 28/06/2011 22:26

Well bringmesunshine I reckon there is a reason why 83% of successful dieters regain the weight www.livestrong.com/article/379277-how-to-lose-weight-and-keep-it-off/ and I suspect it has got a bit to do with occasional (or not so occasional) treats of chips and ice cream sundaes! Afaic food isn't a treat, its nutrition - that's not saying it shouldn't still be enjoyable (and I know I enjoy what I eat), but its primary function should be to satisfy hunger and promote health. I know I sound like a wanky obsessive Grin, but I also know I am going to be in the 17% who keeps the weight off

Well done on sts littlefish

assumpta I think it was froot who first suggested diet ginger beer, a shot of vodka and the juice of a lime. Lush and only 2 pp i think
