Well it's day three for me and I think it's going quite well. It's quite a novel feeling to check if I'm hungry or not before eating and then to actually not eat if I'm not hungry. It's quite enlightening to realise that I just never even bothered to check if I was hungry in the past and that eating had nothing to do with that!

The only annoying thing so far is that I know I could techically have pudding if I was hungry but am realising that I'm not after I've had my dinner, it's almost quite annoying - I want to be hungry so that I get my pudding :o

I am going out for dinner tonight and thankfully it will be quite late so I'll be officially hungry hopefully!

SomebodyNew · 20/05/2011 11:21

hmm - that's a lot of 'hungry' in one post!

Niecie · 20/05/2011 11:26

Florence - that is OK. Breakfast is difficult I think. The received wisdom is that you should eat because it is the most important meal of the day and sets you up and all that but then on the other hand, why eat if you aren't hungry? It takes a while after getting up for me to feel hungry most of the time so I tend to leave it too. And juice is part food part drink anyway I think (I read that somewhere, I didn't just make it up!)

I suppose you just need to do whatever it takes not to end up head first in the cake tin (or biscuit tin/insert addiction of choice), inhaling cakes because you are ravenous. Smile

BsshBosch and Joltek - Well done on the losses.

Posh chocolate doesn't cut it with me either. I have been known to have a bit of strop with DH for buying fancy chocolate instead of Cadburys even though he thinks he is being nice and spoiling me.Blush

On the other hand I don't know why I feel sorry for him - he should know after 20 yrs together what my favourite chocolate is and it is cheaper than the posh stuff. How difficult can it be?!

The problem with Cadburys is that it is cheap, easily obtainable, bloody gorgeous and because it isn't rich it goes down very very easily.

BsshBossh · 20/05/2011 11:37

SomebodyNew, I ate ice cream for my dinner last night because DH was late home, I couldn't be bothered to cook and I really fancied "pudding"! I'd say two things: either eat your main meal but only eat a few bites and don't eat it even to satisfaction - keep some hunger in your belly for pudding. Or else simply skip dinner and eat pudding Grin.

ppeatfruit · 20/05/2011 11:44

But Niecle if you eat it slowly it tastes yuck to me. someonenew HAVE YR PUDDING AS A MEAL!!!!!!

ppeatfruit · 20/05/2011 11:48

BSSH You got in before me!!!!

Niecie · 20/05/2011 11:50

Ppeat - the dark stuff tastes yuck to me but then I don't drink alcohol as I don't like the taste and there is a similar bitterness about the two imo. Mind you I can force down dark chocolate if I need to, but couldn't bear to drink a whole glass of wine/beer/spirits or whatever. Bleurgh.

SomebodyNew · 20/05/2011 11:50

Good idea, I like this more and more all the time!

Joltek · 20/05/2011 13:37

Just had my lunch, possibly a little on the quick side cos I had let myself get too hungry and it was yummilicious (toasted walnut bread with cheese and pickle).Nearly finished it, tho let a little crumb to prove I could and still felt really hungry. Have come away and now 29 minutes later I am not in the slightest bit hungry. Woo Hoo!! That delayed full signal stuff must be true.

florencerusty · 20/05/2011 14:26

well I did just have literally a fraction of a crust of toast before lunch and then 3/4 of a sarnie, a bag of crisps (and I left some of both) and a yogurt. Couldnt swear I was actually full but am having water now.

SoloIsAHotCougar · 20/05/2011 15:42

Hello ladies!!!

Joltek, are you chewing at least 20 times each mouthful? I have found that if I'm doing loads of chewing, even with a small meal, I don't get the delayed full signal, it's during or toward the end of the meal itself.

Really good to see you flo :)

florencerusty · 20/05/2011 16:15

thank you Solo :) How can you chew crisps 20 times though? lol

PositiveAttitude · 20/05/2011 16:24

Well done on your loses ladies! Grin

Flo some things are not great being chewed 20 times, others I find absolutely impossible (like yogurt), so I tend to chew as many times as I can, if it is less than 20 I keep chewing after its swallowed, up to 20 iyswim Confused

I am feeling good. I am finding positive things to say when I look in a mirror and I have just negotiated a new Samsung Galaxy s phone!! Off out with a friend tonight, just for drinks. Grin I am a happy bunny! Grin

onesandwichshort · 20/05/2011 16:30

Afternoon everyone,

I'm another one with the delayed full signal - I now tend to stop if I am still feeling a bit hungry, thinking that I will revisit it if I still feel hungry in a bit. But I rarely need to. And that way I don't end up feeling over full.

For those of you who are agonising over whether or not to do the aversion therapy about chocolate, why don't you try the cravings buster first? That way you get to still eat it, but not need it. I could quite happily live without chocolate, but can't even look at a heap of crisps without eating them all - did the cravings buster and am now a bit more sane about the whole thing. I did have to do it three times a week for a couple of weeks though for it to work. (Oh, and I found it worked much better doing it from the 5-CD set if you have it, rather than the book, fwiw).

I'm quite chuffed today as I think that, perhaps, after a long long time, it is starting to work for me. Certainly my jeans feel looser, which is good. I've been doing tons of cycling, but the downside is that my knee is now a bit clicky and achey, so I may have to lay off a bit for a few days, which is annoying.

Niecie · 20/05/2011 17:10

Florence - re making the crisps last longer - suck them.

Only until the flavour has been sucked off admittedly but they last longer even if you don't get to chew them that much. Slows up the whole crisp eating process nicely. Grin

TheOriginalFAB · 20/05/2011 17:56

Evening everyone.

I am all alone. DH is going out and the kids are at MIL. It is just me and the cat. I am having tuna, sweetcorn and mayonnaise in a granary roll at whatever time I feel hungry.

I have just under 3 stone to lose, what is a realistic time scale that this could take please?

Niecie · 20/05/2011 18:03

I reckon if you don't make any effort to lose weight and just let it come off naturally then 5-6 months (about 1 to 2lbs a week).

You could probably lose it in 3 or 4 if you pulled out all the stops and calorie counted but I bet it would be back on again in 6mths.

TheOriginalFAB · 20/05/2011 18:33

6 months is more realistic. I can't understand how I have 3 stone to lose but I will get there. Thank you.

SilveryMoon · 20/05/2011 19:10

Evening all I've had a good day today. Some crumpets for breakfast, water since but no food.
Am feeling hungry now so me and dp are having curry take-out, could be dangerous!

HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 20/05/2011 20:04

Does anyone else get The Sigh when they are satisfied? That is my most accurate sign, more so than a tummy feeling. I will be eating & enjoying, then I let out a wee sigh, and then I know I am done :) try looking out for it & let me know if you get - I am very interested! :)

Hi all just checking in and saying hi to all of the new faces. I've never been on such a popular and positive thread :) I'm getting all giddy about being in with the cool kids!

neicie I love that you refer to this as a natural way of being, that's exactly how it feels to me. For the first time in my life I can eat without it having a whole load of significance or emotion attached to it.

howto will definitely look out for The Sigh and report back.

Hope everyone has good weekends planned. I think I may weigh tomorrow as I haven't for a few weeks, but I'll see how I feel in the am.

SoloIsAHotCougar · 21/05/2011 01:15

I get the sigh, but not with every meal...I do now (mostly) recognise the full feeling though, which is fab! :)

I'm going to do more sorting tomorrow (Saturday) and get shot of some clothes to the charity shop. Would like to freecycle them, but I can't really wait to get rid. I need them gone before I put them all back! Blush

PositiveAttitude · 21/05/2011 06:04

Mintcake - am I a cool kid now then??? Grin First time in 44 years Wow!!! I am sticking around!

I, too, will look out for the sigh, sounds interesting.

I am off to catch the first boat off today in a minute to a seminar thing for work. Not too sure how the eating is going to go today as we have to take food for the day. I have put some nice things in my bag, but more snackish things because I never feel like eating on days like this. I did a special shopping trip yesterday to choose some nice things to take.

HAve a good Saturday, "see" you all later! Smile

SilveryMoon · 21/05/2011 06:47

Right, no more messing around, no more excuses, I am back on board 100%.
I have been falling back into bad habits when I don't think I'm hungry. Like having breakfast because it's breakfast time.
So, now, I don't think I'm hungry so am having a cuppa.
Gonna weigh myself in a bit, but reckon I've probably put a bit back on.

I was in a chicken shop with a friend yesterday and she was talking to a bloke in there she knows.
She ordered her food and asked me if I wanted anything. I said "No thank yyou, I don't think I'm hungry"
This bloke said "Don't you get cravings?"
I said "sorry?"
He said it again, then I realised he thought I was up the duff Sad
Not gonna wear that top again!
Saddly, he is not the first to assume I'm pregnant.

Joltek · 21/05/2011 07:38

Sigh - fell off the wagon. DH got back from travelling with work yesterday and texted me to order a takeout pizza for his return. I thought I would be able to control myself and eat slowly etc but I had had a couple of drinks by the time it arrived and shovelled it in. Hey Ho - today is another day and I am soo not hungry this morning. Must not eat while I drink.
Beautiful day here!
