I read about the website, myfitnesspal.com on MN. Am truly desperate to stop the ever rising weight gain - I have just topped my full term pregnancy weightSad. I've never really been a dieter, or even believed in diets, but I Have To Do Something. Would love to do it with some other Mumsnetters - anyone interested in joining me?

All the weight loss threads seem so bloated, if you'll pardon the metaphor. I'm intimidated by 537 messages, or 219 messages. Feel I cant be arsed to read through all that and I will never be part of the club if I dont read the history. Advice please?

And now I've managed to give myself concussion and slightly compress my spine by smacking my head into a low beam in the bathroom. So right now, dfamily are enjoying the lovely panna cotta while I sit here feeling sick and having to lean on the keyboard to get my hands high enough to type! Bollocks.

hairypotter · 17/04/2011 19:15

Poor you Sad, if it was me I'd be chomping the panna cotta by now, which is why I'm a whale!

Not looking forward to tomorrow's weigh in either. I sense it will not go well......

BettyButterknife · 17/04/2011 19:32

Sounds like we've all had a bit of a time of it. I am the same - something's up with DS2, not sure if it's a tummy bug, cold/cough, or teething but he's had sickness/diarrhoea, a cough and a fever and is generally really unsettled. The past three nights have been bad, but last night was the worst.

Last night he woke at 10pm, came down with us for a bit, back to bed at 11pm, up at 12. At 1am, I went in with him and he was unbearable - basically woke every 30-60 minutes so I didn't really sleep at all, until DH came in and took over around 5.30am and I had 2 hours uninterrupted sleep then.

I just cannot diet when I'm tired. I do not have the willpower, or the energy, to refuse junk. Plus, I am so exhausted I crave sugar and need it to keep my energy levels up.

Hoping for a better night tonight (sleepwise), a better day tomorrow (foodwise), and am not holding out much hope for the weigh-in as I pigged out at a 3yo's birthday party today :(

worriermum · 17/04/2011 20:45

Disasterous weekend food-wise here. Yes, v v stressed and my whole MFP regime just went out the window. I'm also not looking forward to weigh -n tomorrow, but I am still glad it's going to happen: I need something to get back on to the MFP lifestyle.

See you all on here tomorrow.

Its my official weigh in day tomorrow and I had a big family lunch with all my cousins to try and perk them up and talk about lots of memories etc etc. My mum did a sterling job of roast chickens, potatoes, salads, cheese, biscuits, fruit, ice cream etc etc etc Sad but I have to say I though f* it and have a cheat day today, I was relatively good and avoided the crisps to start off with (hooray!!!!) and then it went wrong - so I know am over but couldn't face putting any more into the planner.

Doesn't sound like anyone had such a good day, will have lowfat yoghurt and bran for supper or a selection of vege sticks, or infact just miss it out all together Sad and get back to normal tomorrow. Am cross though as I have been so so good about it! However exceptional circumstances etc, also for the first time I had 2 very small glasses of wine even though I wasn't driving and everyone was tucking in (saw 4 magnum bottles of rose empty Hmm well it weren't me and I would have merrily tucked in to that a couple of weeks ago!!!)

tookoolforskool · 18/04/2011 07:53

morning all.

forever - i hope you are on that plane and not able to post :)

chocolateeggy- a cheat day is allowed, it happens sometimes. ive got a cheat meal tomorrow. dad is taking me and DD to pizza hut. so... and then sunday im hosting a easter sunday bbq and the following week im going to a royal wedding party thing. Im just going to make sure im really good the other days and factor the cheat meals into my week. should be fine and shouldnt really stop the weight loss. I dont log it when its a cheat meal, theres no point really, unless you want to find out how bad it actually is.

betty, hope your ds is better soon.

worrier - when your stressed its hard. i had a bad day fri/sat and have eaten a fair few mini eggs that i didnt even want, i just ate them any way.

good luck for all the weigh ins today, im doing mine tomorrow so shall report in then. Am really hoping to have lost another 2lbs.

ChocolateEggyrolls · 18/04/2011 08:46

I lost 2lbs! So last week I lost 4lbs as I started the diet on Monday and logged my wednesday weight.............all in all quite pleased although I must really need to lose it for it to come off that quickly wouldn't you say? Blush

worriermum · 18/04/2011 09:01

Heeeeere we go. Big gulp, square the shoulders...WEIGH-IN DAY LADIES!

Okay, no way round this: I've gained .3kg today. But I have weighed in, and showed up here nonetheless and I am clinging to that. For months and months - years really - I have been eating destructively and chaotically and jsut logging my food and staying aware of what I am eating is a change and an achievemet for me. So I want to stay here, and keep reaching out for the support I need to start losing weight and getting fit slowly. We all have different histories and goals - I hope mine are compatible with what you all want to achieve, and that I am not dragging anyone down with my lack of achievement so far. I am determined, I am keen. So, I worriermum now commit to : logging my food every day this week, no matter how much I have eaten. And doing five cycling sessions this week. And to logging my weight next Monday.

Good morning ladies, well Im chuffed with myself this morning, I've lost 2lbs!! I have to say it was tough going, I've done the shred dvd every day as well as four 2 mile walks (big hilly ones at that) as well as sticking to my calorie allowance all week. Deep down I suppose I would have liked to lose more as in years and diets gone by, I've managed to lose that much with no exercise. I know that im building muscle because I feel less lardy and wobbly, so the brutality of the dvd must be working. Grin

Shall we do the copy and paste thing again?

hairypotter start 13.4 now 12.9 loss this week 2lbs total 9lbs

Off to do battle with dvd again now, although I read on here about zumba for the wii and ordered a copy right away. Can't wait for it to arrive

hairypotter · 18/04/2011 09:19

oops x posts

hairypotter start 13.4 now 12.9 loss this week 2lbs total 9lbs

Worrier, .3kgs is nothing! Don't beat yourself up so much. You are def not bringing everyone down. We are all here with the same goal. Im finding that entering everything is helping me focus. Like you I can be chaotic with food but I am getting better. Im not going mad with diet food, Im eating the same food as family but watching my portion sizes as well as cutting out crap.

I know this is a long term thing as I've still got a loooong way to go. I'm really trying to like exercise but its not happened so far...

tookoolforskool · 18/04/2011 09:25

yay. < claps loudly> well done everyone :)

worriermum - dont beat yourself up, its hard. i think you really have to be in the right frame of mind.. and its hard getting to that frame of mind. always takes me a good month to sort it out and get on it really, then once you start and the lbs start dropping your well into the swing of i t.

hairy - well done. like i said before, the shred slowed my weight loss. I still lost though and i bet if you measure you will be quite shocked :) I actually kind of want to start shredding again as i did love it, but im holding back until i get back to a healthy bmi.

gilbonzothesecretpsychoduck · 18/04/2011 10:19

Well done everyone! Fab results. Since my 1kg loss at the end of last week I've stayed the same but I'm not too bothered as I can see a whole load of toning going on and muscle starting to show through the fat Grin.

I've really enjoyed running this week so I'm going to aim for more of that plus Davina dvds. I'm going to have a gentle day today though and just do some yoga as my head still hurts and my neck is still very stiff and sore. I'm hoping that some gentle stretching will help get things back to normal.

gilbonzothesecretpsychoduck · 18/04/2011 10:21

Forgot to say that I'm now 92kg or 14.48 stone.

worriermum · 18/04/2011 10:51

Thank you all - your kind encouraging words really do help, and leave me determined to be back next Monday with a loss to report. TooKool I'm especially encouraged by what you said about it taking a month or so to get ones head around the whole diet thing.

Gilbo, I'm impressed that you are managing any exercise at all with your head injury! And Hairy - YAY - and well done !

Onward and upward...

tookoolforskool · 18/04/2011 11:02

That's just how it is for me. Takes about a month.of half hearted dieting, and then giving up, then starting again, then giving.up, then starting again before I'm ready to go ' right, let's do this'
I started trying to diet early Feb. I didn't actually start properly till 12 th march.

Mfp is good I think. And I quite like being able to factor in a bit of chocolate or something I fancy. Much more likely to succeed long term that way.. or at least I hope so.

gilbonzothesecretpsychoduck · 18/04/2011 11:22

That's exactly the way I use it tookool. I like to be able to have a treat knowing that it's allowed. Otherwise I'll have some ice cream or choc, etc and feel so guilty that I'll either starve myself or give up on the diet. Knowing that it's ok to have it seems to be teaching me how to eat a bit of what I want in moderation combined with a healthy diet.

I'm pissed off right now. I decided that a bike ride wouldn't put too much strain on my neck so I spent 30 mins looking for the pump, pumped up the tyres and set off. 2km in and the tyres are flat so I had to turn round and come home so only 4km! I was really into my stride aswell. Oh well, job for the afternoon = finding the leak!

tookoolforskool · 18/04/2011 11:32

Gil, you are so the same as me!!! If I did that before I too would go, oh well, I've blown it and then just stuff my face, or try and starve... and then be so hungry I'd stuff my face!

Now I can just.include it in my daily allowance and its fab! Defiantly learning to eat well in moderation... which.is quite amazing.

I think logging everything and making my diary visible to you.lot is also helping as I'm accountable..

BettyButterknife · 18/04/2011 13:57

Ok, I have not lost or gained this week - am still 12st 7lb this morning. Ho hum.

But I have walked 3.5 miles today and will be walking another 2 miles later this afternoon. This morning that trek was to and from the doctor - turns out DS has croup and has been prescribed steroids so I'm hoping that will improve matters rapidly, and he will be happy and settled, I will get more sleep, and can start losing again!

Well done to all those who've lost this week - we're getting there!

ChocolateEggyrolls · 18/04/2011 16:08

quick question?

Jillians 30 day shred - is it on the excercise planner? If not how many calories does the first stage let you have?

tookoolforskool · 18/04/2011 19:47

hmm. had a bit of a heated discussion with my mother earlier. she noticed i had lost weight so i told her how fab mfp is and that im actually eating a whole lot of food AND losing weight. She didnt believe me at all. I told her what id been eating and again she didnt believe me.
Shes over weight too, but on a diet. she does the ' not eating anything, dwlindling down to nothing' but sill managing to be over weight. she totally buys into anything ' low fat' or 'diet' and will quite happily scoff a bag of haribo because they are ' fat free'

So she gave me a bit of a lecture about how low fat is better, and i asked her if now fat is better how come shes not thin and hasnt been for about 25 years. But she couldnt answer.

My greek youhurt in the morning is the 10% fat one. its so thick its pretty much like eating cheesecake. But theres hardly any sugar.. and because its so thick and filling i dont eat that much and it fills me up and its bloody lush.

She said ' well, i could not eat that at all.. i shall stick with my special k'

madness :)

( out of interest compared the cals/protein/sugar/fat in the greek yoghurt and then the lower fat version. the low fat is about 50 cals less per 100g.. but double the sugar... and only a tiny bit less fat)

ChocolateEggyrolls · 18/04/2011 20:04

I had a personal trainer when pg who came to the house - had just moved and was missing my daily gym dose, she was also a nutritonist and she did say that the full fat version of things are healthier because of the amount of sugar to make up for the lack of fat and give it some taste. I obviously do still buy into low fat Hmm but I wouldn't go all low fat for stuff all of the time as I just end up eating double of it! Blush

RGPargy · 18/04/2011 22:32

tookool - isn't it funny how some people are just soooo blinkered no matter what you say to them!! There is deffo so much more crap in "diet" stuff than in full fat stuff. The girls at work are all very quick to go and get their caffeine free diet cokes from the vending machine but bloody hell, if only they'd read the ingredients in that stuff!! Yuck!!

Burned off over 700 cals today at the gym doing pump and body jam and still haven't managed to eat them all back today so i am well under my calorie limit today! Yippee!! :o

Weigh day for me is Friday so i dont take into account any weight that my scales say, unless it's a friday!

ChocolateEggyrolls · 18/04/2011 22:45

700 calories? What do I need to do to burn up 700 calories (please say I can do it sitting down!)

foreverondiet · 18/04/2011 23:51

Hi all! Yippee we made it here.... I know I'd be totally flamed on AIBU - but its so easy to say don't do something when it doesn't impact you, but I don't really care. DS1 was so good, and actually although I was in a total state, the only person who seemed to notice was the person sitting beside me on the plane (he was wearing a baseball cap & looking at his feet until take off). Anyway he looks so much better today all spots now scabbed.

The food here is great, and although I'm not going to log everything shouldn't be too hard to stick to diet as loads of fish/meat and veggies. But its all inclusive and there is a "tea room" filled with every sort of chocolate, sweets, ice cream, nuts, dried fruit, biscuits, etc etc you could imagine. Totally American over the top. Will have to exercise constraint! Aim is not to gain more than a few pounds.... but have swum and been to gym...

tools buy your mum the south beach diet book - dr who wrote it explains why fat free approach is flawed - its a very healthy diet, and less faddy than say atkins or dukan. In terms of diet food, I avoid anything "processed", but will eat - diet drinks eg diet coke/diet sprite (sometimes need something sweet) and fat free dairy esp if natural (ie cottage cheese, natural yoghurt, plain fromage frais (although quite partial to fruit activia fat free as treat although limit these to 1 or 2 a day) - although I think eating full fat dairy is fine too - as you say makes you much fuller. Dukan diet has limit of 500g of dairy a day and I think this is sensible so try to stick to it.

tookoolforskool · 19/04/2011 07:13

I might do a bit of reading about that myself. Thanks. I've not eaten.more than 500g dairy. Yoghurt pretty much everyday, eggs some days, so max 250 g.

Glad you made it there, how's the weather? ( food sounds very very tempting) have a lovely time.
