I read about the website, myfitnesspal.com on MN. Am truly desperate to stop the ever rising weight gain - I have just topped my full term pregnancy weightSad. I've never really been a dieter, or even believed in diets, but I Have To Do Something. Would love to do it with some other Mumsnetters - anyone interested in joining me?

All the weight loss threads seem so bloated, if you'll pardon the metaphor. I'm intimidated by 537 messages, or 219 messages. Feel I cant be arsed to read through all that and I will never be part of the club if I dont read the history. Advice please?

I have started putting the normal family meals I make into the recipe bit on MFP and am quite surprised that some of them aren't to bad calorie wise, which is good, I had a curry night a few weeks ago and have lots of batches frozen.

I am going to pus some more in over the next few days to see what they come out as.

Also have left an alcohol allowance for tonight, I have a friend over and we always end up having a drink or 2, luckily Vodka is fairly low cal and I still have 300 + cals to use up today. Grin

That is the good thing about MFP I can still eat and drink what I want but now have to ability to juggle it around other food to keep my totals in check and at a healthy level.

tookoolforskool · 15/04/2011 09:55

its great for that isnt it. I think its a really fab tool becuse you can see what your eating and quite quickly work out whats good or not, and whats worth using cals on, or not.
and if you have some spare then you have have a treat.. and include it in your allowance. We are off to the cinema later so will include a bit of chocolate in it :)

forever, what is quorn actually like. ive never had it before but was thinking about doing a bolonaise thing with it.. but on ribbons of courgette instead.

foreverondiet · 15/04/2011 11:08

Quorn mince is great - it doesn't really taste of much (so need to add to something with lots of flavour, for me at least chopped up onion, carton of passata, and some soy sauce, and ideally other veggies too) but it has consistency of meat mince, without the grease.

I also use quorn chicken style pieces in stir-fries or curries instead of chicken. Really good sources of low fat protein. Unlike tofu, quorn chunks are firm and so don't fall apart in the stir fry.

I always have both in freezer.

RGPargy · 15/04/2011 12:26

Personally I dont like quorn or supermarkets' own meat style substitutes. I dont know what it is about it i dont like. They dont taste of much so it cant be that. I think it might be the texture that puts me off. DP keeps getting me to taste his veggie alternatives but they just dont do it for me! The only thing i do tolerate quite happily are Asda's meat free burgers (not the veggie ones, but the ones that look like meat) and also the meat free sausage rolls. Both are lovely! Still cant beat a bit of meat fat in some foods tho.... Wink

I am going to be putting my meals into MFP tonight too so that i can work out their calories, particularly the SW ones that i printed off yesterday as it'd be interesting to see how many calories are in them, considering they are "free" on their plan.

Great idea about buying the mags and just using their menus. I just need some different meal ideas really because i find that if i get bored of what's on my 5 week meal planner, i tend to deviate from it and end up with some crap or other. Not good!

gilbonzothesecretpsychoduck · 15/04/2011 13:17

I just did a sneaky mid-week weigh in as dh commented that there was a difference in my body this morning. I've lost 1kg since I started MFP 10 days ago which, considering I now eat a lot more than I did 10 days ago to get to my calorie limit, is fantastic. I've also been for a jog and 3 weeks (today!) of not smoking has improved my breathing so much that I upped my pace hugely Smile

RGPargy · 15/04/2011 13:21

Wow that's fantastic!! Well done!!! :o :o :o

TitsalinaBumSquash · 15/04/2011 14:59

Argh! I went to my sisters and din't take lunch so ended up feasting on Sushi! Really yummy but carb heavy, still under allowance but only just Sad

foreverondiet · 15/04/2011 16:41

gilbonzo thats totally fab, well done. shows that starving yourself not the way to go.

I went to john lewis to buy some new stuff for holidays..... firstly very p*ssed off that size 10 seems to be the first size they run out of. Then in the changing room the shop assistant commented that I should get some new bras as mine was far too big! I have always been a 34B (ie before DC and between each DC) - she guessed 30C or 32B, so breasts disappearing... more annoyed that bought myself 2 new 34B's in m&s last week and have worn them. but nice that everything i tried on looked nice and fitted well.

tookoolforskool · 15/04/2011 16:53

gilbon - huge well done!!!!! you must feel really pleased, especially since you have been eating more as well.

tits - dont worry about it, you are only a tiny tiny tiny few cals over your 1200 and at this stage ( ie, only just starting) thats probably more important that the carb/protein mix.

Forever - nightmare on losing the boobs... but great that everthing fitted so great - so, big question.. will there be any bikini wearing going on?

worriermum · 15/04/2011 19:14

Quick note to add my congratulations gilbo. And yes, it really is interesting that the loss happend with more rather than less calories. And forever, congrats too. It must be a wonderful feeling to be trying on clothes that all look great.

Ladies, I just opened a drink (a boozy one), I know its cheating somewhat but my Aunt just passed away this evening and I wanted to toast her.x Will make it up tomorrow I promise SmileSad

RGPargy · 15/04/2011 22:36

:( Choc. So sorry for your loss. You are definitely excused.

gilbonzothesecretpsychoduck · 16/04/2011 06:53

Choc Sad There are times when a diet is so unimportant in the scheme of things and this is definitely one of those times for you. I hope you enjoyed your drink and my thoughts are with you.x

tookoolforskool · 16/04/2011 08:38

choc - so sorry for you. thinking of you. and your diet is not important at all.

ChocolateEggyrolls · 16/04/2011 08:43

Thank you, it wasn't totally unexpected but still a bit of a shock. I was a bit naughty and decided to have 2 drinks and some olives instead of supper as dh was out and I couldn't be bothered to make something not something I will continue to do however I suppose at least I didn't add to my calorie intake (although tbh I wasn't really thinking of that!) Back to focusing again now as I think that will make me feel better to be focused and not to dwell on things out of my control.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 16/04/2011 10:06

Sorry for your loss Chocolate.

I am back on the wagon today, I spent last night gorging on junk Blush

I am well and truly back on it, my boys are out with ex today so I shall take that time to have a bounce on the trampette and maybe a nice walk somewhere.

ChocolateEggyrolls · 16/04/2011 16:54

I had a chocolate cupcake after making some cakes for my cousins, oops, have been so good recently and 1200 seems so few when actually some of what I have eaten today used to just be one meal Blush but that totally puts my previous diet in perspective doesn't! Shocking!

gilbonzothesecretpsychoduck · 16/04/2011 19:00

I just made myself a cheat day pudding which is amazingly delicious but still hasn't taken me over my calorie limit! 100g vanilla icecream, 1tbsp nutella (warmed in microwave until runny), 1 cup strawberries. Whack in bowl and enjoy - it tastes........WOW! mmmmmmm. It comes to around 350 cals depending on make of icecream and make of choc spread.

ChocolateEggyrolls · 16/04/2011 21:58

Am very pleased with my supper too, was a lovely teriaki (homemade) steak and fennel coleslaw with lime juice and coriander. Wanted something nice and treaty, but frankly very low calories realistically. DH loved it and I topped him up with a baked potato Hmm because obviously he needed it Confused
Gilbon, am going to steal your pudding one day - do you think it would work with lowfat yoghurt too?

RGPargy · 16/04/2011 22:16

Gilbon your treat sounds delish!!! Will deffo steal that too!! :o

I hate a really lovely dinner tonight. DP is away so i was able to have what the hell i liked. Wink All i had was a grilled chicken breast with half a pack of Ainsley's Biryani style rice. Didn't have any veggies coz i didn't have any in Blush but it was bloomin lovely and only just under 500 cals, and mainly coz the chicken breast was huuuuge!

Does anyone else menu plan? I normally have a four or five week menu plan so that i know what i'm cooking every day for dinner. The only reason i do this, i have to add, is because i get stressed out if i dont know what i'm supposed to be cooking lol. Odd i know, but hey, it works for me! Anyway, as summer is approaching it's time for a menu change and so i have made every meal either a SW meal or a WW meal, i.e. just using their recipes. That way both DP and I will lose weight and i can get rid of the stodgy dinners that are currently on the menu!

Just thought i'd share lol. :o

ChocolateEggyrolls · 16/04/2011 22:51

I think about them but sometimes swap and change them around Wink so tomorrow we are having at some point smoked mackerel and beetroot salad and then a homemade falafel with pitta bread will also probably raid the fridge for what is in there for dh and dd but not sure yet, we did all the protein today ooops!

foreverondiet · 16/04/2011 23:04

hi all... i am stressed beyond belief so have eaten a bit much today, haven't logged it and didn't write down as seemed to graze all day with stress. basically we are supposed to be going on holiday tomorrow to USA with DH's parents. can't be postponed or refunded as it was a freebie for them (DH's Dad speaking at a conference and we get to go with to swanky hotel).... DS1 came out in chicken pox on wednesday. basically he is fine and spots pretty much dried out so by tomorrow shouldn't be infectious (didn't seem to be any new ones today), but BA's official policy is not to fly until 6 days after LAST spot crusted. hoping we can get onto the plane.... and i do have letter from GP saying he isn't infectious.

RGPargy · 16/04/2011 23:20

Oh blimey, forever!! What a worry for you!! I'm sure it'll be fine, especially with the letter from the GP. Hope to not see you tomorrow on here (Wink) so have a fab holiday!!

foreverondiet · 16/04/2011 23:30

yes, hopefully will be on plane tomorrow - not on here.... trying not to think about it although have packed my stuff and DS1's stuff seperately from DH/DS2/DD's stuff, and of course worry that DS2 will get it just before we come home (10 day holiday)....

DH's mum in a state about it but nothing i can do!

gilbonzothesecretpsychoduck · 17/04/2011 16:09

I was feeling so positive about all this earlier today. I went for a run, walked with the kids, generally had a fab morning out in the sun.

Then I made vanilla panna cotta and used the left over strawberries to make a strawberry sauce to go with it.

Then I googled 'calories in panna cotta'. SadSadSadSadSad

Oh well, low fat banana yoghurt for me! Still feeling positive if I'm honest as I've lost half an inch from my hips this week and I keep getting compliments from dh Smile
