Let's start afresh!

OP posts:
ConstanceFelicity · 20/04/2011 18:34

Ate quite a lot today, but nothing bad.

Had lunch with friends and offered to make a salad and some salsa to take with me. So I had some olive and seed salad, a bit of tuna, and a tomato, pineapple and avocado salsa. It was lovely.
Banana snack- not great but I was hungry as I did some much-needed gardening.
Leftover salad with chicken for tea.
2 coffees and 2 teas.

Timbachick · 20/04/2011 20:26

Even better sal - it makes your revenge even sweeter when they are fat and baldy ... Grin

Well done CF - it's tough to say say no when everyone around you is tucking in. Well done as well on getting some good fit jeans - not easy.

Hey CV - nice to see you here again.

Now...question about ketostix/ketosis. When you test for ketones using the ketostix what level of reaction are you looking for? Traces/Mild/Medium/Strong? I have bought some and tested but wondered whether a strong reaction was better or whether just finding traces was enough to signify kestosis????

Thanks x

Hi peeps. Just back from hols where I had a bit of a bread fest (couple of slices a day on average and crisps)

Climbing back on the wagon tomorrow so thought I'd say Hi!

Oh, and starting to shred again tomorrow after doing it for 5 days then taking a week off Blush

FreeButtonBee · 21/04/2011 09:14

Hello all. I am doing okay, though not brilliantly. Weight is holding steady at in and around 10 3-ish. But it feels like I'm really on a plateau at the moment. Which had led to cheating, which obvously doesn't help matters!

My parents are visiting for easter and am then on hols all of next week so that won't be great for the diet. But I am going to try not to go completely off-piste. Probably won't be around much over the next 10 day so be good, have fun and enjoy the sunshine!

I hate plateauing.

Still around the 12st mark and have been throughout a non-cheating-at-all fortnight. I haven't been exercising as much due to holidays, so may be that, but still, I have managed a few strenuous walks and some swimming.

Yesterday was
chicken salad
a pear
salad with bbq, which wasn't great as DH had bought burgers which were so crappy I could taste the bread in them. Blush Thank you Mr Co/op, you git.

Timbachick · 22/04/2011 12:50

As you may, or may not (much more likely Grin) know ... I eat the paleo way. That is, the way our ancestors ate before we became farmers. It is the hunter-gatherer form of eating, only we don't hunt anymore Grin ... that where exercise comes in.

Anyway - in a nutshell, I don't eat any wheat/grain based foods, any dairy or any legumes. The first two (grains and dairy) are easy as I am intolerant of them. Therefore I have to search around a bit for recipes and meals that I want/can eat and that are interesting (thanks you Custy for both the celeriac suggestion and the almond pancakes ... both staples in my life now). To this end I do surf the paleo websites a bit and have found a few that are really good.

Thought I would list them here for anyone who might want to give them a look. They are, in the main, American, so have recipes that use cups.

www.everydaypaleo.com
www.robbwolf.com
www.thepaleotable.com

Even for those following low carbs who do have some wheat/dairy they are another source of inspiration to eating lo/no-carb.

Anyway, Happy Easter to you all. XX

Timbachick · 22/04/2011 12:56

CF - if possible make your own burgers with some mince. I do this and can then control what goes into them. If you use an egg to bind them together, along with onions, garlic, herbs etc, then they do hold together on the BBQ.

Another good one for the barbecue is to marinade some salmon in garlic, soy sauce, olive oil and pepper and then wrap in foil and place on BBQ - really really lovely - moist and so tasty.

I make my own shish kebabs and shashliks as well. The lack of breadcrumbs in them means that an egg holds them together on the BBQ.

ConstanceFelicity · 22/04/2011 13:28

Thanks Timba. I would probably bought a piece of meat as opposed to anything processed, but I didn't want to refuse DH's food.
Salmon on BBQ sounds lovely, I must try it...

ConstanceFelicity · 22/04/2011 18:26

Today:
a lovely chicken salad. DH had some too, and said that he'd eat it every day if it was always that nice. :) (I reckon he's lost more than me!)
The rest of the family had fish and chips for supper, and I wasn't even tempted! I made a lovely chinese-style meal tonight, which was nicer than the chips, according to DH... Here is how I made it...
Lots of different mushrooms- Got a huge mixed hamper from the market for a fiver... Cooked on the hob with a little olive oil with grated garlic and ginger, an onion, chilli, soy sauce. Served with cauli rice. It was such a treat!
Am pleased with myself for not having chips even though I haven't lost weight for ages.

Timbachick · 22/04/2011 18:40

Well done CF - it's tough when those around you eat food that tempt's. My DS and DH do this to me all the time. Smile

CointreauVersial · 22/04/2011 23:39

CF - that's a very good trick - cooking yourself something even more delicious than the tempting naughty stuff on offer. Can be expensive, though...

ConstanceFelicity · 23/04/2011 08:31

Yes, and if you don't want to be up with stomach cramps at four in the morning, don't base your meal entirely on mushrooms... :(

Timbachick · 23/04/2011 09:46

Oh, CF, feel for you ... I had the samr type of thing with beetroots not too long ago... suffice it to say that 5-6 days of cramps and extensive bathroom visits means that I will not be eating them again. Grin

ConstanceFelicity · 23/04/2011 10:55

I am wondering if I felt out of sorts because there wasn't enough protein in my evening meal and perhaps I was just hungry. I felt fine after a bit. (Although I may be trying to convince myself of it because it tasted sooooo good and I have leftovers in the fridge...)

Hi sal - an I just ask ... what on God's green Earth are "cheese balls"?

Sorry you are not feeling great ... hop back on the wagon soon. [bugrin]

ConstanceFelicity · 23/04/2011 22:27

Cheese balls... Want some (even though I have no idea what they are...) [bugrin]

Had leftover mushroom thing for lunch, with some quorn pieces. Yum, and no tummy ache.
Some ham as a snack (far too much if I'm honest)
Salad with a fish medley in lemon sauce for dinner... It was gorgeous.

Proud of myself as I went to the pictures today and resisted all naughtiness. Now to resist the chocfest that will be tomorrow...

CointreauVersial · 23/04/2011 22:42

Just been next door for "drinkies" and eaten my own body-weight in crisps. No cheese balls, though (boo).

Have a nice Easter, everyone, and go easy on the Lindt bunnies.[busmile]

Ahhhhhhh, gotcha sal. I was conjuring small mushed up cheddar balls [buconfused][bugrin]. Well done on the 2lb loss and for the exercise.

I am being veeeerrrrrryyyyy good now. My neighbour has just comment on how "skinny" I am. Now, he must be seriously sight-impaired if he thinks I am skinny but it's the sentiment and the knowledge that it is beginning to show [bugrin]. Am chuffed to bits.

Have lamb in the oven ready to be scoffed. Roasties for my boys and cerleriac for me along with loads of veggies.

Am making a chocolate cake later for DH and DS and will bake some suitable wheat/dairy free cookie things for me. (DH told me, quite apologetically, that "I don't really like that 'stuff' you eat" [bugrin] ... made me chuckle ... he is Italian and is quite picky knows what he likes [busmile]

HAPPY EASTER TO ALL [bugrin] [bugrin] [bugrin]

ConstanceFelicity · 24/04/2011 20:39

Right

fish salad for lunch and dinner- very nice. Two mandarins and grapes as snacks, and three slices of ham.
Not too bad considering I went to an eater egg hunt and have been surrounded by chocolate all day.
However, went to the beer garden with friends and though I only had a diet coke, I developed a massive headache straight away- I think it may be because I have been having such a lot of fresh food recently, all the chemicals and shite was a bit much.

Went for a walk, too, but am v aware that I'm not exercising as I should- Will start again after the holidays have gone.

Sarraburd · 24/04/2011 22:52

I'm just back...and my box is bulging...v first meal had omelette and green salad, but they bought it with the most delicious homemade chips on the side and I couldn't resist...

Also in the Box three croissants, at least a loaf of baguette, pasta and new potatoes. Oh and ice cream and two amazing french desserts. Ah well, it was a brilliant holiday and I did eat lots of fish and salad too so hoping damage won't be tooo bad (wishful thinking). Back on the wagon.

Thanks CV for breakfast sprinkles and rumba for paleo links, looks interesting.

Well done sal on the bra measuring lady's compliments, rumba on being skinny and cf on the size 14s (and for having a million times more willpower than me!)

Sarraburd · 24/04/2011 22:53

Timba not rumba sorry!!! Damn autocorrect
