I'm in my first week of WW. Have lost weight with WW a long time ago, before Propoints. Just seem to keep reading/hearing about people finding the new system hard and ineffective which is quite demoralising when you've just started. I'd really like to hear some encouraging positive experiences so come on - boast away! Wink

I started on Jan 8th when DD2 was 6 weeks and have lost 30lbs so far. I'm finding it really straight-forward, I am not hungry between meals and I don't seem to need to use the weekly points or my breast feeding allowance to eat really well. I think that if you are prepared to really change the way you have been eating, track religiously and weigh out portion sizes to start off with, you can lose weight very effectively with it. My Mum has also been doing it and she's lost 14.5lbs in the same time period.

encouraging?? Grin

NoWayNoHow · 26/03/2011 22:34

Also an "old" Points system person who started ProPoints at the beginning of January. Have lost 10lbs so far, which I'm pleased with as I'm doing it this time just to correct a bit of a backslide from the end of last year - I have nowhere near as much to lose as I did the first time I did WW.

As long as you track really well and don't lie to yourself, it works. Bear in mind, though, that some people seem to be able to eat all of their weekly 49PP but others not. This may depend on how close you are to you goal weight (all just guesswork, nothing scientific to it!)

dontdillydally · 26/03/2011 23:10

Im in same boat as you op - started 2 weeks ago lost 4lbs in first week then last week stayed the same, I couldnt believe it!!!!

Have sticked to it religiously, have hardly used my extra points, just dont understand it.

Im sticking to it as have signed up for the monthly pass feel very disappointed though, previous points system worked a treat for me I have always lost each week

ICanPluck · 26/03/2011 23:33

I am 9 weeks in to the PP plan, and have lost 20.5lb so far :) I have done the old plan since the end of last january, with a couple of months off over christmas, and lost 48.5lb on that. I love this new plan though, having some fantastic losses. Have STS once and gained half a pound once in 9 weeks. I'm finding that only using 20-25 of my weeklies works best for me, I only have 9lb to get to my goal now so the full 49 is just too much, and I imagine I'll have to cut down on them even more as I get closer!

It's a great plan, as long as you don't over complicate it. Track honestly, try not to use the points on rubbish, cook from scratch, up the protein and ease up on the carbs, drink PLENTY of water - it works wonders, and get some activity in. It doesn't have to be hard work, the science behind it does work as long as you stick to it and don't do your on variation of it and then say it doesn't work as I have seen many do!

God luck :)

dontdillydally · 27/03/2011 09:13

thanks ICANPLUCK - given me words of inspiration.

I think this new plan you have to work abit harder and think through your food choices ie. more activity and more protein

I must admit my extra points although Ive only used perhaps 10 a week have gone on ww biscuits = 2 points, prob ww cake = 2 points, slice of toast ie 2 points ... very carby

Like I say am sticking to it as have paid up front - I could go back to the old plan but Im mind focussed on this new one

Perhaps we should keep this thread going and give each other support?????

LolaLadybird · 27/03/2011 15:35

Thanks all for your encouraging stories - just what I (and dontdilly!) needed I thinkSmile!. V Envy of those of you losing fantastic amounts!

I'm only in my first week and will weigh on Tuesday so that'll be the first moment of truth. I've been honest with my tracking and have definitely eaten much more healthily as a result, although I will have used all my weeklies. I am pretty active anyway - running twice a week - so hopefully will see a positive result. Our scales at home are broken though and I just find it a bit disconcerting not to have any idea until the weigh-in on Tuesday!

Dontdilly - would love to buddy-up on this thread for support. Will be great to have someone else just starting out. When do you weigh and how much do you think you have to lose?

LolaLadybird · 27/03/2011 15:37

Oh, and I have also signed up for the monthly pass which is probably a good thing - means I'm more likely to stick with it even if I don't see marvellous results in the first week/fortnight.

dontdillydally · 27/03/2011 16:06

Hi Lola - I weigh on a Thurs yes definate will support each other

Have been thinkign about this all w-end and in a way perhaps slow weight loss is better - onthe old plan I lost very quickly and 2yrs on hence doing it again!

Good luck for Tues

chicaguapa · 27/03/2011 16:48

In the last few days I've been tracking my food on myfitnesspal AND WW. I have ranged from 1200-2100 calories a day but always 29 points. It probably explains why I've not been losing any weight! So I agree that you have to work harder with food choices on the new PP. I lost all the time on the old one but really struggling on this.

ShouldersBackAndNoBiscuits · 27/03/2011 21:02

I agree that you have to think about your food choices a bit more, but I think that's a good thing. Hopefully will get us doing that automatically and set up new, good habits about eating instead of rapid weight loss then back to old habits. I'm certainly finding that I have changed the balance of my food away from carbs and towards protein/fibre and 10 weeks in I'm not craving carbs like I used to, so hopefully it's a habit broken!

dontdillydally · 28/03/2011 11:11

I cant belive how much negativity there is with this new PP plan, Im really struggling with the whole thing - it was a breeze on the old plan.

I feel as if Im starving myself - "darent" touch my 49 extras or go near any carbs.....

dontdillydally · 29/03/2011 13:05

LOLA - How did u do?

loubloutwinmum · 29/03/2011 14:07

Hi ladies, just adding my experience! I have done the old plan quite a few years back and found it more restrictive than the new PP plan. I lost on the old plan but it crept back on. I joined the new PP plan at the very end of November last year as I felt so miserable with my size and felt out of control. So far I have lost 2 stone and 10 lbs and have only a few pounds to go now to reach goal.

I did find it took me a while to get my head around PP and if you have an iphone, I cannot recommend the WW app enough - it means where ever I am I have the support and information with me to enable me to make good choices - or bad choices - but at least I am informed! If that makes sense... I do track everything though and think this is key to success!

I love having the extra 49 weekly PP and I do use them, usually for meals out and I would say since I have been doing PP I have eaten out or had a takeaway at least once every week. I do find it flexible and it does work if you have a "normal" life. I have cut back on alcohol and have spirit and diet mixers now mainly and just the occasional glass of wine. I eat a lot more fruit but still have treats - Curly Wurly is only 3 PP and a great chocolate fix.

I cannot say enough good things about PP - for me it has worked really well and I feel my weight loss has been steady and most importantly I feel it is sustainable! Hope that helps.

2bayumimum · 29/03/2011 19:22

I totally agree with loublout, Ive had nothing but good experience with PP. Ive lost 8 lbs in just under four weeks, not been hungry as eat fruit when peckish ( always hated on the points system that I had to count fruit ) and eat everyone on my 49 points ( and possibly a bit more on a Saturday night ) - only got 6 lbs to go to my target weight and much more likely to stick to PP post reaching goal, as it really fits in with my life. I do try and exercise 4 to 5 times a week, but do the shred dvd ( on my 6th or so month of doing this dvd, hence cutting back from the 7 days a week ). I think with all diets unfortunately, some work for some people, but not for all - I found SW useless, but know others have really lost a lot of weight on it. I also found on the first couple of weeks of PP that I made a few mistakes, such as thinking all sweetcorn was 0 pp, when in fact it was only baby sweetcorn, consuming a bag of quavers, thinking it was 3 PP when infact it was 5, so for those of you not seeing as much weight loss as you hoped, it may just be the settling in period. Good luck everyone.

LolaLadybird · 29/03/2011 20:05

Thanks for the extra good news stories! I weighed today and lost 5 lbs. Obviously I am v pleased although I should point out that I changed class and weighed in the morning whereas last week it was evening so I imagine a couple of pounds may have been down to the time of day. I need to work out which time is going to suit me best and stick to it for consistency.

I have definitely eaten more healthily in the last week - lots more fruit and veg (like 2bay I also resented having to count fruit before) and have made better choices. Sunday breakfasts are usually a couple of croissants but this weekend was a fresh fruit salad and freshly baked sourdough bread with buttery jam etc. Before the bread would have been a staple mid-week snack but is now a treat!

I'm also enjoying having the extra weekly points because I was always rubbish at 'saving' points under the old system. Just hope I can continue to lose whilst having the extra points because that's what got through me the weekend without feeling too deprived!

Dilly - how are you doing?

OP posts:
dontdillydally · 29/03/2011 22:15

brilliant news Lola 5lbs is a great loss. I weigh this Thurs and am going morning whereas last week was evening.

Ive def eaten healthier but am not really touching the extra 49 - after a 1st week of 4lbs loss the 2nd week I stayed the same.

If I loose this week 3rd week - I will introduce some of the 49

Interestingly it seems the norm to stay the same a few times...Im sticking to it as I want a mass summer shop in Debenhams in June!!!

LolaLadybird · 29/03/2011 22:49

I keep thinking how nice it would be to be buying smaller clothes in the summer! We have a summer holiday booked in August and it'll be the first time since having DC's that I'll be spending time around a pool with people other than my immediate family. I know if I don't do something now I'm going to be quite depressed about my size. During the winter I can manage to feel OK about myself much of the time but there's no kidding yourself when the sun comes out and you're wearing less!

Good luck for Thurs - let us know how you get on.

dontdillydally · 31/03/2011 17:47

lost 3lbs today...havent done anything different from last week when I sts

LolaLadybird · 31/03/2011 22:57

Well done Dilly. You must be really pleased - hopefully it's renewed your faith in the system! Interesting to know that you can do the same over 2 weeks with different results. Will try and use that as encouragement when I have a week with no good news.

Had a good couple of days. Really sticking to it but I've been hungry at times. I don't want to touch my extra points until the weekend tho' as that's when I need them most.

OP posts:
dontdillydally · 31/03/2011 23:19

i Lola

yes but I havent dared touch my extra points - last week really knocked me.

I will stick to it as really want some nice clothes for summer - Jasper Conran and John Rocha have some gorg dresses in Debenhams at mo...that's my inspiration!!!!

Good luck for the weekend ahead....as I weighed in to Ive had what I call my naughty day - now back on the waggon tomorrow!

LolaLadybird · 31/03/2011 23:21

I too had a naughty day on Tuesday - I think it makes the rest of the week a bit easier knowing there's one day you can relax a little bit!

im of the old ww crew and lost 4 stone in 11mths fairly easily

this time on ww pp im struggling

lost 11 lbs since jan, so in 3 mths - this is having a few weeks of sts (totm) and a few gains (bad blonde)

i am losing cms though, but slowly

i cant eat all 49 as shoulders and noway know lol 'waves'

wizzler · 05/04/2011 21:47

I have been on WW since early Jan and lost 16.5 lbs.. very slow but steady, and I am really noticing the difference now. Its not that I think I look fantastic, but before I felt really fat and dissatisfied with myself. Nothing fit properly, I never felt smart, and this coloured how I felt about everything . Now I am much more positive, and not focussed in on my weight all the time

The ladies on the Propoints thread here are all fab, and very supportive ( and sometimes strict) when I face temptation (waves to Blondes, Shoulders , Loublou and Noway) and that has been really encouraging nd a big factor in me sticking to it.

Dontdilly.. keep going. Week 2 for me was the only week I sts, after that blip I have lost every week.Glad to see you had a loss in week 3!

LolaLadybird · 05/04/2011 22:51

So second weigh-in today and I only lost half a pound. Very depressing especially as my jeans are definitely looser now than they were a week ago but hey ho. I'm trying to take inspiration from everyone who's said they have had slow weeks.

I now have some new scales at home so hopefully will make it easier to keep an eye on my progress through the week rather than having no idea until weigh-in time.

Wizzler - thanks for you comments. Think I might seek out the Propoints thread of which you speak. I could do with the strictness! :)
