Why won't this fucking weight come off????

Boozilla · 23/03/2011 07:56

I have been doing Weightwatchers for over a month, I have been very careful, cheated once or twice but always got straight back onto it the next day.

I exercise rigorously 5 times a week, I walk as much as I can and STILL this fucking weight won't shift. I need to lose about 10lbs and I haven't lost a single ounce. I'm on the verge of just giving up, I mean what exactly is the point??

My clothes don't fit any better, if anything I now can't get into some trousers! What the hell is going on???

Can anyone give me inspiration? I've now tried to cut bread, pasta, potatoes and rice out of my diet as that's all I can think off. I'm so depressed that I'm just not getting anywhere. Sad

This is aboutthe 2rd thread saying exactly this in the last few days :( Seems WW doesnt work for a lot of people!

HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 23/03/2011 08:06

3rd, sorry Blush

DuplicitousBitch · 23/03/2011 08:11

are you eating your weeklies?

Boilable · 23/03/2011 08:13

you could be gaining more in muscle weight through the exercise then you're losing in fat through the diet..?

louvert · 23/03/2011 08:16

I'm in a similar boat, and people on various forums are saying similar. It's almost like some of us have an anti-propoints gene! I'm planning to switch to Slimming World on Saturday - this is just too slow for me.

DuplicitousBitch · 23/03/2011 08:21

it is slow, i eat little or none of my weeklies and exercise points. i have lost a stone since the middle of january which i am pleased with. but yes at the start i was really fed up at the pace. i have another stone to go which i imagine will be even slower.

zippy539 · 23/03/2011 08:25

Are you eating your weeklies? If you really are exercising that much then you might not be eating enough so your body is 'hoarding' calories and you're not eating any weight. Make sure you eat ALL of your daily points, don't eat more than 2 'free' pieces' of fruit.

zippy539 · 23/03/2011 08:26

losing weight not 'eating' it, obv. :)

DuplicitousBitch · 23/03/2011 08:27

the free fruit thing is bullshit!

Boozilla · 23/03/2011 08:54

I'm actually thinking of just lemon detoxing. I KNOW what everyone says about it but I have a couple of friends who do it once a year and they swear by it. I'm going on holiday in 10 days and am just so pissed off that all my hard work has been for nothing.

Louvert What is slimming world?

Boozilla · 23/03/2011 08:55

I rarely touch my weeklies and eat about 2 pieces of fruit a day. I also count any milk I have in tea/coffee.

Feel like a hamster on a wheel just not getting anywhere!

Boozilla - look at your portion sizes. While you think you may be within points, you may actually be eating way more than you think due to larger portions than on the tracker. That was my problem when I started on WW. I also agree that you should leave those bonus points well alone (but eat some of your activity points when you're exercising hard) and point fruit if you eat it alot.

Are you drinking lots of water? If you're exercising lots, you will need to keep your body fueled - think eating little and often rather than big meals, and protein and carbs. Shake things up - if you eat the same things everyday and do the same form of exercise everyweek try something new. And if your weight really isnt shifting, see your GP to get your thyroid checked

DuplicitousBitch · 23/03/2011 08:59

boozilla - that sucks. so either your portion sizes are too big or you are actually kylie minogue and really shouldn't be on a diet

Boozilla · 23/03/2011 09:06

Definitely NOT Kylie Minogue!!

dinkystinky - thanks for the tips. I do weigh most of my food and use the recipe builder for any stuff I get out of cookbooks. I do eat a lot of the no points stuff like vegetables, try not to eat too much fruit as I too am suspicious that it's now no points!

WW is all I have ever used and usually it has worked, now all of a sudden I'm just utterly stuck and the idea of learning a whole new diet plan like Low Gi or Slimming World seems a bit daunting!

DuplicitousBitch · 23/03/2011 09:09

booz - i would stick at it. i didn't lose much the first few weeks and then started to. it does work but definitely harder for folk who have less to lose.

the other thing you could do is get on ebay and buy the old ww books and just do that.

good luck

Boozilla · 23/03/2011 09:11

yeah that's not a bad idea actually Duplicitous, the old WW definitely seemed to work for me! This pro points shite is just not shifting anything.

Fucking hell, so pissed off. Angry Sad

Boozilla - try eating your weeklies. They're not 'extra' points - just points that have been skimmed off your daily allowance to make you feel like you can have a treat without having to 'save up for it' like we did under the old system. If you're not eating them and doing loads of exercise you're probably not eating enough to lose weight.

zippy539 · 23/03/2011 09:52

Meant to say that if you still have the old ww material why don't you try pointing what you've eaten the last week in 'old' money. I bet you come out way under in 'old' points.

DuplicitousBitch · 23/03/2011 09:52

the 'not eating enough' thing isn't true. yes you can slow your metabolism down if you are eating alot less than you need but that is unlikely on 29 pp. i found this info on the ww science part.

DuplicitousBitch · 23/03/2011 09:56

here is the link about the 'starvation myth'

OnEdge · 23/03/2011 09:56

I have just gone back to old fashioned calorie counting and its quite liberating believe it or not. I was on slimming world and found i was eating things for the sake of it and cooking all the time from scratch. Although this is very healthy it is not really do able with 3 kids under 4 (for me).

I have downloaded an app on my i phone and it works out from my weight and height and daily activity level how many calories i need to eat in order to loose weight. It even works out how many calories i need to loose from 0.5 to 2 lb a week.

zippy539 · 23/03/2011 10:13

Totally agree about the 'starvation' myth but in my experience (have lost 3 stone - twice :o) my body adapts to lower calorie intakes really fast and I simply stop losing weight (plus I'm bloody starving). The biggest losses I've had are in weeks when I've had a few 'low' point days followed by a bit of a blow-out, followed by a couple of low points days. Just chopping and changing the amounts of points daily (which is easy with the weekly allowance) it seems to shake up my system. I think the WW 'Wendie' plan was based on this principle but never looked into it properly. Also I NEVER lost weight, no matter how I messed with the points, when I was drinking alcohol regularly (even when pointing it). Not suggesting you're a piss-head like me Boozilla :o - just another thing to add to the list of suggestions.

If the old system worked for you Boozilla then can you forget pro-points and go back to it?

zippy539 · 23/03/2011 10:21

Duplicitous - also meant to say that if Boozilla isn't eating her exercise points (let's give her five a day) plus she's not eating her weeklies then that will be giving her quite a large points deficit compared to what she was eating on the old ww system - which seemed to work for her.

DuplicitousBitch · 23/03/2011 10:46

its a funny business zippy! arf at you losing 3 stones twice, i am a bit like that. you would think we would learn not to put it back on

foreverondiet · 23/03/2011 11:57

Boozilla - I found that the last 10lbs was very hard to budge. I haven't tried weightwatchers...

Here are some ideas (might not need to do all)

  • ensure that all exercise is of the interval training sort
  • weigh everything and work out how many calories you are eating a day (to loose last 10lbs I needed to get this to 1200) - I use myfitnesspal
  • cut out carbs, including fruit
  • have protein at every meal
