2011 Paul McKenna P3 - the march towards skinny jeans continues

whomovedmychocolate · 16/03/2011 18:40

Well the old thread was getting mordibly obese wasn't it? Grin

Welcome new people and people who've been here for a while, this is the definitive Paul McKenna support thread.

Whether you are dribbling over his Paulness or wibbling over pudding, we're here to listen, slightly mock you and tell you to step away from the scales.

The Paul Mckenna plan is not a diet but a way of teaching yourself to eat slowly and consciously and achieve the body you've always dreamed of.

There will be no diet foods on this thread, no starvation and no beating ourselves up because ^lifes' too bloody short to weigh a carrot and we'd far rather be doing something incredible instead!

Celestial - Try stopping before you get a full/satisfied feeling. Thats what I did to start with, then realised that I was quite satisfied 5 minutes later. If Id kept eating, Id have eaten too much. Its so difficult to get it right to start with! If after 5mins, you are not satisfied, eat some more. As Paul says, food is always there, there is no need to panic/worry. For the first 2 months I only ever listened to secrets of naturally thin/mind programminf CDs, to get on the right track. Only now do I occasionally listen to the exercise one. H
Can you remember the tapping technique without your book? If not, I can link it for you. Use it when you want to eat your mothers day chocs!

Hello to all those just popping in! waves

Dandy - the book is Positive Shrinking, Paul does the foreword for it. I got it on amazon for 1p plus £2 something postage - total bargain! It said 2nd hand, but it was very obviously new. It has quite a few TFT techniques to use to compliment Pauls method, the guy was at the seminar with Paul and I found him really interesting.

Good to see you Deafworm Grin

ppeatfruit · 11/04/2011 18:42

Deafworm!! So nice to hear from you I'm glad you're still keeping it going they're very supportive on here now it's great! I was wondering where you were good you're back on line now Smile

ppeatfruit · 11/04/2011 18:47

I'm off to London tomorrow and won't be near a comp. for a while prob. till after easter 'cos have got 2 D.Ds and boyf. here. Keep on trucking everyone!!Good luck with the easter temptations!!

CelestialstarlightsPassion · 11/04/2011 19:38

Howtolook Thank you. That's great advice. I'll try to stop eating sooner and wait for five minutes before deciding if I need more. At dinner this evening I put my own meal on a side plate. Ate the whole lot then had 3 biscuits. That was an hour and a half ago and i'm full to bursting...still. So I'll definately try what you suggest. Ooh, I'd love the link to the tapping please. Think I need all the help I can get Blush

Off to look at positive shrinking Smile

CelestialstarlightsPassion · 11/04/2011 19:39

Have a lovely Easter ppeatfruit

Tommy · 11/04/2011 23:22

really haven't had a good few days... need to get back on track although 2 meals out today hasn't helped.

Need to listen to the CD again - I'd just rather listen to the radio when I'm going to sleep!!

CheerfulYank · 11/04/2011 23:49

Haven't done well today because I still feel so ill and not much sounds tasty. Basically just brownies and toast. But, I haven't stuffed myself on them, so that's progress eh?

3ismylot · 12/04/2011 06:50

Hi all
Just popping in,am still doing really well using PM and am now on week 3 of couch to 5k and loving it (first time in my life I have enjoyed excercising and am also thinking of doing swimming and maybe a workout class too!)

I feel in control so much now and can actually have "naughty" foods in the house without wanting to stuff them mouth the 2nd they are unpacked Grin

My DH has started following it too now, he is struggling a little bit with deciding if he is full or not but getting there Smile

I just wish I had found this way of eating years ago!!!

shrinkingnora · 12/04/2011 09:20

The thing is, this is the way of eating we are all born knowing. We just train ourselves out of it with years of input from the media and the people around us. I am feeling really angry about this at the moment as my beautiful and healthy DD (7) has started saying things about having fat legs and I know that she doesn't really believe this but thinks she somehow should be saying it. I know that I am partially responsible as she has listened to me moan about my weight for years (although I don't directly talk to her about it she has definitely overheard me talk to friends about it etc) and also my MIL will say "Grandma's fat isn't she? Fat and horrible, aren't I sweetie". I have posted about this before but am still struggling with what to do to help her have a good body image. I know that what I do now is setting her up for life.

Food wise, I'm still going well. Could eat a little slower, could eat a little less but no longer beating myself up about it. Had a minor Haribo incident yesterday but had spent the afternoon helping our neighbours. He has terminal cancer and has probably a few weeks to live (if that) and she is not coping at all. it was just terribly sad so I just wanted to feel different Sad. My mum and my best friend were both not available to chat to and DH is equally upset so I'm afraid I turned to food to make myself feel different. It was hollow and unsatisfactory though.

shrinkingnora · 12/04/2011 09:22

Sorry for my memememememe post there.

CY - it sounds like your body wants some carbs while it's recovering. Nothing wrong with that.

3ismylot - you sound so happy! I love Paul for the joy he is spreading. It's such a revelation to enjoy exercise, isn't it. I am depserate to go for a run but still too soon after surgery.

CheerfulYank · 12/04/2011 11:03

Nora does your daughter like to do any sports? Dance, soccer, whatever. I remember the athletic girls in high school and I always envied them for how comfortable they seemed with their bodies. I think sport places the emphasis on what your body can do rather than how it looks, which is an important thing for all of us to think about.

MissVerinder · 12/04/2011 11:45

CY that is a great throught. I try and use that when I look at my c-section tummy. I think, "you made a baby in there!" rather than "is there even any muscle under that?"

Nora I'm so sorry about your neighbour. My father died of a brain tumour, and it was the friends and family that just took the time to be there that made all the difference.
As for your daughter, maybe see if you can get her to say something to MIL like, "true beauty is on the inside," or "I love you Grandma not your dress size" to bounce it back on her. Sounds a bit twee, but it might shock MIL out of doing it.

I feel like I'm doing ok still, but yesterday and today, I have been soooooo hungry! I ended up eating a bowl of porridge at 9pm because I wouldn't have been able to sleep otherwise. I have been really active for the last few days though, so maybe that's it. I've also been drinking a lot (of coke Blush) so I don't think I'm thirsty? Who knows. I really nrrd to stop the coke habit, it's not helping. I'm sure it makes you put more weight on. Someone kick me up the bum, please........

shrinkingnora · 12/04/2011 12:08

Loving 'coke habit'. I find coke makes me thirstier. Try OJ and water (about an inch of OJ in a pint glass and fill to the top with water - tastes far better than 50/50 mix) or plain water for a day or two and see if that helps (although you may get a hideous caffiene withdrawal headache - ibuprofen more effective than paracetomol for caffiene headache).

DD does horse riding rather sporadically and is currently obsessed with highly complicated skipping tricks. She also has two swimming lessons a week, one with school and one after school. I do think you have a point about organised sport, it definitely does improve body image. DD and DS1 both want to start tae kwon do and I have said they can in September when DS1 is 5 but I might look into other things. I also love the suggestion about telling MIL she loves her for what's inside. I may take it further and train her to fall over on the floor and yawn dramatically every time weight/weightloss is mentioned Grin

This is the best thread on MN, thanks guys.

HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 12/04/2011 12:51

Here is the link to teh tapping technique for anyone who needs it

tapping

I find doing this just once took away my crisp addiction for good!

I am loving the Kevin Laye techniques. I have looked more into TFT since reading it, and have tried a few tapping things. One I did, I had to tell myself that I was going to have a good nighst sleep, wake at 6.30 am (you pick what time) and wake full of energy & ready for the day. I could not believe it when I woke at 6.30am on the dot this morning! How did my body know the time?? It was so precise! Spooked me a bit Grin

:( for your neighbours Nora, how awful.

CY - I had a major wobble while I had a cold, it really threw me. I couldnt read my body or hunger cues proerly :( Im just getting over it now, and seem to be getting back into the Pauling way again so just ride it out :)

CelestialstarlightsPassion · 12/04/2011 14:29

Thanks for the link Glaikit I'm going to try this in my moments of weakness. Oh and have just ordered the Kevin Laye book for 1p from amazon too Grin. I feel a little more back on track today. For brunch I had scrambled egg on toast. I took your advice and stopped eating earlier than I normally would. Still felt hungry and had a few more mouthfuls then stopped again to await signals. This time I felt neutral and stopped eating. So brilliant advice thanks. I'll practice and keep it up.

Nora Sad for your neighbours. Truly awful. Both you and your DH must be a great support to them just now. You seem like good friends to have around Smile

Shrinking I'm gonna try the OJ/water combo. It may help to increase my water intake. I am shamefully guilty of not drinking enough water.

Cheerful I hope you are feeling better today Smile

JuicyOlive · 12/04/2011 15:39

Hi all

Celestial I mix up the CDs. I think of the original thin CD as the main one. I love the emotional one (I think most people on this thread realise that I'm an emotional eater!) especially at bed time, when PM tells me to "relax my thighs" etc Blush. The exercise one is v motivational and a bit shouty and better for use during the day imo.

Good to see you Deafworm and glad to hear things are positive.

Glaikit Good Kevin Laye bargain. Personally I was very suspicious of him at the seminar, but if it's working for you...

pp Hope you have a good time in London

Tommy stop procrastinating and just do it. Smile It won't hurt, because you'll get to eat some lovely food WHEN YOU'RE HUNGRY.

Cheerful I wish you sounded a bit more cheerful 'cos it sounds like you're doing fine. You've eaten what you want and not stuffed yourself. Hope you feel better soon.

Big cheer for 3ismylot.

nora not memememe at all compared to some of my posts. I think this thread is a very useful place to offload. So sorry to hear about your neighbour.

The image thing is tricky isn't it. My mum also does the negative body image thing. DD is hitting puberty and I so want her to be comfortable with her body and I feel it's important that I don't pass on my shitty relationship with food to my kids. Thankfully, DH and DD are natural Paulers (so at least they have one parent role model), but DS craves comfort food. The kids are staying with my parents at the moment, and I know that DS will be having pain au chocolats for breakfast, trips to the chippy, lots of biscuits and snacks because that is her way of showing her love Hmm and bad mum will have to wean him off all the junk when they get back. They just get it for a few days in the hols, I had a whole childhood of it.

MissV love the ""you made a baby in there!" comment. I often do what nora does with OJ except I use fizzy water and add a squeeze of lemon if I've got some around.

Apologies to anyone I've missed out.

"I feel good, na na na na na na naaaa,
I knew that I would now, na na na na na na na naaa...."

CheerfulYank · 12/04/2011 15:46

I like to use frozen berries instead of ice cubes in water. It makes the water really cold and it gives it a hint of fruit flavor. Then I can use the berries in a smoothie later. :)

Still feeling sick, haven't really wanted to eat anything. :( But that must be what my body needs right now, just some rest time. FIL coming to p/u DS in about half an hour so I think I will just drink tea and watch Grey's Anatomy the live long day.

shrinkingnora · 12/04/2011 16:18

cy - that sounds like a fabulous day to me! Like the sound of frozen berries.

Tommy · 12/04/2011 22:43

lol - thanks - that told me Grin

JuicyOlive · 12/04/2011 22:55

Tommy - sorry I did Smile. Didn't mean to be a bully but seriously what have you got to lose?

JuicyOlive · 12/04/2011 23:02

Just looked back at my rallying song and realised that it's not that obvious I was singing .

Had a lovely meal out tonight at Jamie's Italian. Great for Pauling - amazing flavours and fairly small portions. I mean seriously amazing flavours - melt in your mouth buffalo mozzarrella, exquisite squid in a dipping sauce, (DH and I shared starters), perfectly cooked rare steak, chips in truffle oil. Worth trying if you have one locally (maybe not CheerfulYank). Not cheap but lovely food.

CheerfulYank · 13/04/2011 05:44

No, we don't have one. But I love Jamie! And Italian! :)

Feeling (mostly) better now and looking forward to Pauling again tomorrow.

ObiWanKenobi · 13/04/2011 09:02

Hello everyone. I know I'm really late but hope you don't mind if I join in.

I did PMK a few years ago before my wedding and went from a 16 to 12. Had a baby last October and now a 14. Aiming to gt back to a 12 since but keep injuring myself (I've been super clumsy due to lack of sleep) so it's hard to exercise. Also breastfeeding so don't want to do any strict diets. Figure this is safe as I'll be following my body.

So... Started two days ago. Going well so far. Also started doing yoga at home (just need to skip postures that require me to stand on one leg due to broken foot!)

Hard to keep away from the scales for the first two weeks but I'm trying!!! Wish me luck!

HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 13/04/2011 09:11

Good luck Obi, may the force (Pauls lol) be with you Grin

onesandwichshort · 13/04/2011 09:28

Hello everyone, new and old alike!

This thread is still running way too fast for me to ever keep up with it, but I am checking in once again with everyone, because it is really inspiring to hear how well you are all doing. I am still trundling along, not falling off the track spectacularly, but at the same time I still haven't quite 'got it' in the way that some of you have. Do you think that going to the seminar made a real difference, those of you who did? And if so, what? Or is it that I just need to keep grinding along until it clicks.
