day one today.
Had huge blow out of the weekend, a vertiable carb and cheese fest, with copious amount of chocolate.

This morning i had a superfoods innocent smoothie for breakfast.
nutigrain bar at about 10am.

someone was passing haribo mamo stips about at work and i had 2.

tuna and sweetcorn with light mayo, no butter sandwich and a pink lady apple for lunch.

am starving.
came home and had a homemade cookie.

:(

Am still starving. was planning on just having veg for tea.. am now having baked potatoe with a small amout of beans and maybe a tiny tiny bit of cheese.
and a salad

thats a crap start isnt it.

just water to drink, which is all i usually have.

it really helps to follow a plan. i do ww which helps stop my self delusion about portions sizes

i you get in from work starving and eat a sugary snack you will just start a spiral of gluttony (ime) you need to not get hungry keep yourself on an even keel.

good luck

openthewindow · 14/03/2011 16:31

usually it takes a week or so for my stomach to get used to it... and then im ok.
and i cant tell you how much i ate at the weekend, which proably hasnt helped at all.

but im bloody hungry.

other than the cookie... and the mamo strips.. thats ok though. isnt it?

just need a mid afternoon snack i think. but not fruit.
what can i have thats neither carb or fruit?

OP posts:
geordieminx · 14/03/2011 16:34

Slices of ham good for snack

DuplicitousBitch · 14/03/2011 16:39

ingnoring the haribo!
the rest comes to
nutrigrain - 6 points
smoothie - 4 points
bread roll - 3 points
tuna - 1 point
may0 - 1 point
baked potato - 5
baked beans -5 (half a tin)
40g cheese - 4 points
biscuit - 1 point

which is just over the ww 29 points i eat and i have 1 stone to lose. i think you are ok.

thehairybabysmum · 14/03/2011 16:41

Personally i would also say that an innocent smoothie is not a proper breakfast and is full of sugar, albeit natural sugar. A nutrigrain bar is IMO just crap and also likely to be full of sugar, probably as much as a milky way or suchlike.

Soooo, if you had a glass of squash and a milky way this am would you consider it healthy??

I am also dieting and have natural yoghurt and apple for breakfast (either stewed or grated), plus a scoop of oatmeal....looks like babyfood but tastes lovely and keeps me full til lunch.

Your lunch and tea are ok though.

wildstrawberryplace · 14/03/2011 16:43

I reckon your breakfast of an Innocent Smoothie followed by snack of Nutrigrain bar was not a good start tbh. All that fructose, carbs and sugar will have spiked your insulin and led to a dip later on leaving you starving.

Better breakfast would have been couple of poached eggs on rye or wholewheat toast. Or muesli and yogurt.

I reckon its a false "economy" to eat "diet" food - it leaves you hungry and you eat more than you otherwise would have.

Better in fact to eat the equivalent in fruit than a smoothie esp. a ready made one, the fibre etc in three or four pieces of fruit will keep you fuller for longer.

Just imho. I know its hard.

openthewindow · 14/03/2011 16:45

i was, a few months ago, ok on a smootie for breakfast.
but ive been eating way too much and its just not keeping me full.

i thought innocent smoothies were ok, and not so sugar full, because of the fibre in them. ie they are mushed fruit, not juice.

the nutrigrain was to stop me from dying of hunger between the smoothie and lunch.

would porriage, made with half milk, half water actually be better then?

im really not keen on yougurt at all.

DuplicitousBitch · 14/03/2011 16:45

yes to all advice about breakfast etc. but in terms of weightlose the op is ok today

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 14/03/2011 16:46

Agree with hairy that you need better breakfast. I know that you aren't doing WW, but if you were then 10 points is a massive amount to use up on a load of sugary rubbish that will leave you starving an hour later.

What about an egg on toast, or a rasher of bacon in a slice of granary toast/bread?

You would be better with more cheese for dinner and not having the smoothie. Protein fills you up.

wildstrawberryplace · 14/03/2011 16:47

Actually I reckon you need to eat more protein generally, looking at your days meal plan.

Protein helps keep you feeling fuller for longer.

openthewindow · 14/03/2011 16:47

hmm. can i poach an egg in a mircowave in a few seconds.
i would like that on wholewheat toast.

or what muesli is ok... i thought they were full of sugar too.

OP posts:
BsshBossh · 14/03/2011 16:48

You should definitely have a protein-based breakfast - a thin slice of cheese on toast or scrambled eggs keep me full all morning.

wildstrawberryplace · 14/03/2011 16:49

Dorset mueslis are good and sugar free.

wildstrawberryplace · 14/03/2011 16:53

You know what, a large banana is good as a snack instead of the nutrigrain bar. They are full of slow release energy and minerals etc.

DH lost loads of weight by eating banana(s) for breakfast, banana(s) for lunch and then a banana whenever he got hungry, and a normal dinner in the evening. I teased him about it but he lost 2 stone and kept it off. DC call him orang-u-daddy Hmm

openthewindow · 14/03/2011 16:53

i was dieting before.. and doing a lot of protein and veg or salad and was doing fine, but ive sort of lost it since xmas and gained about 1.5 stone.
and i cant seem to get back into it at all.

tomorrow im planning
boiled egg :)
snack of apple
tuna and sweetcorn sandwich ( left overs from today)
cherry toms for snack
tomatoes, peppers, courgette, onion, mushroom pasta bake thing. just with a tiny tiny amout of pasta.

rest of the week will be pork chop and steamed veg
salmon and steamed veg
kind prawn stir fry.. just prawns and veg.

obviously no more cookies.
home made or otherwise. ( ive not got any in the house now.. and am skint)

OP posts:
openthewindow · 14/03/2011 16:55

i hate bananas unless they have only just turned green

i like grapes, but they are full of sugar.

berries are good though, right?

OP posts:
wildstrawberryplace · 14/03/2011 17:00

I guess bananas are out then Smile

Erm, cottage cheese is a good snack. Fills you up.

Have you thought about Slimming World? I reckon they are OK, not for me because I don't believe low fat is the answer, but some people, lots of people actually, say they aren't ever hungry on it.

openthewindow · 14/03/2011 17:08

i think low sugar is the answer. ive pcos.
i know i shouldnt eat carbs. i know the effect they have on me, HUGE bloating, to the poing that i cant get my usual clothes on and it hurts.
and then i wee for england the next few days.

I know i should also avoid sugar too... its just hard sometimes. i was doing well end of last year and lost 1.5 stone and its all gone back on so quickly.

OP posts:
openthewindow · 14/03/2011 18:20

Am in shock. Just checked the sugar on 250g of smoothie.
31g

More than a creme caramel. More than a bowl of honey shreddies.

Am going to.pop to shop for eggs, dorset cereals and maybe Greek yoghurt.. to eat with berries

OP posts:
carlywurly · 14/03/2011 19:18

I have a small amount (about 25-30g) of dorset cereals granola with fat free total greek yoghurt and berries for breakfast, or a boiled egg on a slice of Burgen seed bread. Both fill me up all morning and aren't too sugary. The Dorset granola is just gorgeous.

Sugar is my issue, so I try and steer clear and snack on a small handful of nuts if I need something mid afternoon. Now is my worst time - a post-dinner coffee goes a treat with something sweet. I bought some miniature Green and Black chocolate bars and have one an evening as my treat.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 14/03/2011 22:55

Berries are good.

I have pcos too and have to be sensible with carbs otherwise I bloat dreadfully and feel really unwell.

thehairybabysmum · 15/03/2011 09:11

Your planned menu today sounds much better. Porridge is also a great breakfast.

re grapes...yes they have sugar in but they are a proper unprocessed food, so therefore ok...obvioulsy if you ate 1 lb of them not so good but as a snack then fine.

I hink you need to think about processed vs unprocessed foods, so your menu today is good because it has lots of proper food....ie that hasnt been messed about with. Yesterday the smoothie and nutrigrain bar all messed about processed stuff so not good.

If bananas are out (know what you mean, i only like them just past green) then how about an apple and a small piece of cheese for a snack. As the others say the protein will fill you up.

Have you looked at the Food Focus website....good for your logging your food intake and how much of your diet is coming from different food types.

EmmaBGoode · 15/03/2011 09:14

Porridge with blueberries and flaked almonds is good for breakfast if you are dieting.

openthewindow · 15/03/2011 11:42

ok. have made a trip to the supermarket and have come back with dorsert cereals. some berry one. looking forward to that:)

had no eggs ( do now..) so had 30g of shreddies. 30g is a tiny tiny amount. i am hungry and have been so for an hour.

am hanging on for an early lunch at 12. the tuna sweetcorn and granary bread.
apple

with my baked potato last night i actually weighted 40g of cheese. again, a tiny tiny amount. its shocking isnt it.

I dont think i generally eat unhealthy. ( bar the nurtgrain crap.. which was a one off)

everything is home cooked. dont have crisps or chocolate in the house. no sweets. i think its just my portion control has gone totally.

Like with the cheese last night, i probably would have had about 3x the amount i had.

is there like a standard, when dieting, a portion is this much, type web site?

like tonight im having pasta with a ton of veg. Not worried about the veg, but how much pasta? 100g??
