Hi all

I wondered if anyone else was planning to follow Paul mckenna this year and lose their weight?

im currently 16st13 and intend to end the year a fit toned 10st. im a bit hit and miss with following the golden rules but when i do i have seen results so from today i will follow it and get the results i want.

as well as the weight loss with paul mckenna i intend to

Beardo the just dance 2 fitness thing every day till my husband (RAF) flies out to the middle east around april

Bear do the couch to 5k plan and run race for life this year

Bearstart the 30 day shred when dh goes away and repeat it till he comes home (approx 4 months)

I also have one of those magic leg trainers coming on home approval so will have a play with that and see if its worth keping, apart from that i will reassess my fitness in august when he gets home and come to some decisions on how to go forward with that then but for now these seem like reasonable goals, especially when they're on top of really following the golden rules.

so anyone else following 'the rules' this year and going to join me with their aims?

the book for anyone curious about it, though i got mine from my local works type bookshop for less than £5 thats less than one weeks ww/sw/etc subs to try it out and its honestly the most sensible weightloss plan ive ever looked at

well done solo, youre doing really well

youre welcome neo, i understand the wanting to get going thing, hope they help you :o

kt drink some water! well done on yesterday and thanks for being so kind, i did lose, 8lb in a fortnight and ive measured my hips, waist, bust, thigh and upper arm and between tham have lost 6 inches with at least an inch off each measurement :o now is my danger point though this is where traditionally i tail off and dont bother, thats why i started the thread a bit of external pressure seemed a good idea! if i keep on track i am on well on target for my stone by the end of feb! cant wait to get into the 15's and not come back!

welcome curiousmama sounds like you have the basics already, hope you find the book helpful. you can get to the webchat on the righthand side in mumsnet latest if you would like to read it.

well im off to float, just a shame im still in so much pain, never did get to the health food shop pp, will send dh out as id like to lay off the painkillers today and enjoy a few glasses of wine tonight!

Thanks deafworm first thing i did when i got to the kitchen this morning was have a pint of water, just waiting for the kettle to boil for a cup of tea....
thats a really good loss, weight and measurments, since i started eating better etc on new years eve i have lost 5lbs, which doesnt quite feel like enough, but i guess the slower it comes off the more likely it is to stay off!!

welcome curiousmama good luck, the book is well worth a read, or at least ive heard, ive got the audio book so to me the book and the cds are one in the same, im slowly working my way through them.

happy saturday everyone!

Deafworm · 15/01/2011 09:10

thats over 2lb a week though kt and its taken you a bit of time to really get into the swing of it hasnt it? thats a really good loss seriously. have you been to sw or ww in the past? i find the slimmer of the week mentality stays with me so i want to see big losses but really a steady loss is best thats why i worked out my target it fits just under 2lb a week on average so seemed like a sensible target. im probably happier with

KT and Deafworm, well done on your weight and inch loss so far! I'm waiting for Monday for my first weight check.

Deafworm, you mentioned that your good intentions often start slipping at around this point when losing weight, well I'm exactly the same. In fact, I feel that things have been slipping the last few days - why do I do this??? I'm still listening to the CD every night, but find my eating has speeded up and I just don't feel I'm doing as well as I did before. Everytime I lose a little weight I ruin it when I start to feel slimmer!!!

Think I'd better read the chapter on self-sabotage.....

I am wondering though if it's worth getting the new book or is the same information in the older version?

Deafworm · 15/01/2011 09:53

some of the info is the same, some is updated but its much easier to read and the self sabotage but is useful.

catch yourself, every meal start the meal thinking about it and force yourself to slow down, once its a habit it gets easier. thats all im doing, im hoping todays wi will encourage me whereas usually i get complacent after a good loss.

stick with me tessie if our wi are so close then we can encourage each other? i think if i can get through the next 2 weeks on track then im hoping i will have it cracked. are you coming to the seminar?

ppeatfruit · 15/01/2011 10:33

If you go to the earlier Paul Mckenna Thread on here with 267 posts approx I explain it on the last page.

HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 15/01/2011 11:19

Hi all!

Well done Solo, you are doing FAB! :)

Does anyone else have a Food Queue? lol thats what I call it anyway. I have 3 lots of leftovers in my fridge, cake & custard, plus many snacks & meals that I want that I seem to have my food for teh next week booked up! Does that make any sense? Written down, it doesnt seem to make as much sense as it does in my head lol. Its just that there is so much I want to eat but I dont seem to have the space to eat it.

ppeatfruit · 15/01/2011 11:48

IKWYM Howto but now I seem to give myself the right small amount of food, it takes a bit of time to get there though, have you got a dog or L.Os to give it to?!

solo · 15/01/2011 12:20

Thanks ladies! I do feel good about it and am really looking forward to being slim again.
I saw an old friend this morning whom I haven't seen in about 18 years and he said I used to be 'too slim' Hmm hahaha! but like I've said on a thread somewhere! I'd be quite happy to be a small 14; I don't think a (nearly) 47yo looks great at size 8-10 unless she's 5'2" tall and I'm not! but I am lucky enough to be curvy, not that you'd know it in my 'smock tops' Blush

ktwiltshire · 15/01/2011 12:43

Yeah i tried slimming world and slimming magazine club when i was younger, to in all honesty the sheer calorie counting in it makes my eating disorder much worse, in fact i did slimming magazine club when i was 12, learnt about calories (i had never heard about them before) and promptly developed full blown anorexia, instead of my half attempt at a kid not really understanding food intake and exercise etc. so i kinda have an inbuilt hatred of 'organised slimming'!!
i guess thats why PM is really ideal for me.

i know i should be impressed and glad of 2lb a week ish weight loss, your right, it is that mentality of just thinking that we should be loosing more, and faster, but we all know where that leads!!

Howto i have a food cue as well, luckily i give it to DH and he eats it, or the kids!!

solo i completely agree, i have no desire to be a size 8, im a naturally curvy woman and the point is to get to a natural weight, where your body functions at its best, i think thats a good focus

bloomingnora · 15/01/2011 13:12

Hi everyone,

I did ICMYT after having DS1 and really easily lost about 3 stone and greatly improved my relationship with food. DS2, who is now one, has resulted in me putting everything back on!

I finally listened to the cd for the first time in ages this morning and it really clicked again (last time I tried about 6 months ago I felt very 'resistant' and it didn't really work but this morning I have been to a birthday party and not wanted any of the food!). I have about 3 stone to lose (but would be perfectly happy with 2) and have a couple of questions, if anyone can help.

  1. I remember finding it hard to get enough fruit in my diet - I found I was full with half a sandwich or whatever but then had no capacity at meal times for fruit. And I really love fruit.... What do you guys do? I'm sort of thinking a fruit meal might work!
  1. I've just been diagnosed with gallstones and have been told to eat very little fat. Paul tells me to eat what I fancy but quite often that is very fatty stuff.... Shall I just trust my appetite? Help!

I'm off to read the rest of the thread - feeling ridiculouly fired up and motivated. I've already done three hours of housework in an hour. Yay Paul! Grin

AnyFuleKno · 15/01/2011 16:56

* my spare ticket's now been taken *

Looking forward to seeing some of you there, are we meeting for a coffee beforehand or summat?

bloomingnora · 15/01/2011 17:26

If anyone has a spare ticket can you let me know? If not I will purchase one tomorrow....and I will see you there. I will be the one that (according to DS1) looks all saggy like Bagpuss. I will be wearing a hunted expression.....

Further to my questions above, what do you do when it is time for the family meal and you're not hungry?

HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 15/01/2011 18:46

AFK - think we are all arriving at different times, but lunchtime migth be a good time to meet?

HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 15/01/2011 18:49

Welcome BNora! What i do is snack small in the afternoon, so that I stay a constant 5 on the hunger scale (not full/satisfied and also not hungry) then stop an hour or so before I start cooking so that my hunger builds up a little. Seems to work for me. I'll maybe just eat a few nuts, or half a satsuma etc everytime i I am getting a bit peckish. I eat breakfast/lunch normally though, when I feel proper hunger. Not sure if this is the rigt thing to do though!

bloomingnora · 15/01/2011 18:56

That sounds like excellent advice. I am so pleased with how today has gone. I felt really in control and I genuinely haven't been hungry. Such a relief to just eat nice food and not worry or feel deprived. I even really enjoyed my broccoli at supper time Grin

I also find that my house gets loads tidier when I am following this as I seem to have so much time and energy.

ktwiltshire · 15/01/2011 20:32

Welcome BNora i also find myself with more energy, although today i was tired as hell as didnt get to sleep till 4am, and up at 7 with the kids!

Today has been good, barely eaten anything as havent felt hungry, DH is out working tonight so its an early night for me!!

how did everyone else go today?

Curiousmama · 15/01/2011 21:23

Thanks for the welcome Smile

I've been ok today. Had a bowl of porridge but slipped up by having a bag of chips. I ate them slowly though and really enjoyed them Wink I was home alone and passing the chippy and sort of fell in Blush

Did well tonight, marinated rump steak with cheesy mash (not much cheese though) and carrots. Was delicious and I ate consciously although dp said I hadn't because I finished first. What he didn't know was he got bigger portion. He'd exercised today though so could take more cals.

Not hungry now and won't eat until breakfast.

ktwiltshire · 15/01/2011 21:42

^ well done for eating consciously today sounds like you did really well. Try to remember to not think about calories if you can, be conscious about what you are putting in your food, make sure its what you want, but calories should be ignored!!

Curiousmama · 15/01/2011 21:51

thanks, I never count cals. I'm more fat conscious if anything but that's just being health aware (lots of heart disease in family)

I have a Yoga dvd I'm thinking of doing before bed? Or maybe tomorrow? Wink

solo · 15/01/2011 23:08

BNora I've started to eat a small piece of fruit half an hour or so before my lunch or dinner. I did read somewhere about the health pro's for doing this but I actually did it by accident and found I ate much less than usual.

As to meeting before hand Hmm I think it may be a little early to do that, but lunchtime would be good! I can see us all now ordering salad and trying to look impressive! (well, me anyway Grin)

Deafworm · 16/01/2011 09:04

lunchtime sounds good to me too.

bnora no harm in chips if theyre what you really wanted and ate them conciously. ive lost 8lb in 2 weeks and in that time ive had pizza, curry, chips a few time, been out for cake to a cafe, etc etc but all have been what i really wanted and ive eaten conciously.

on the fruit thing i do have fruit just as a meal sometimes now especially at lunch.

had a lovely time last night but ate too much, drank too much and stayed up too late!! in hindsight i should have had dinner before i went and then wouldnt have picked too much but while it took me a while to notice i still didnt get to the top end of full. knowing that this is a trigger point for me im paying a lot of attention to my eating today to make sure it doesnt all fall apart, im determined to see a loss again next time i weigh.

hope youre all having a good weekend

OP posts:
bloomingnora · 16/01/2011 09:35

Wasn't me with the chips! I can't eat them because of the gallstones Sad Yesterday went so well - today feels great too!

tessieb · 16/01/2011 10:09

Deafworm - no I'm not going to the seminar but hope to get lots of good advice from those of you lucky enough to get tickets! Envy

Anyway, I've just weighed myself (a day early, but Monday mornings can be so busy) and I've lost 4 lbs over the last 2 weeks. I'm pleased, though had hoped for more. I think I need to practise slowing down my eating and following the 4 golden rules. (Haven't done so well over the last few days!)

I've been working it out and if I can lose on average 2 lbs a week, then that's just over 3 stone by the time I'm hoping to go on holiday in early June. I do get impatient when trying to lose weight (and in the past have given up far too quickly), but the weight goes on and comes off slowly and every little bit I lose adds up over time.

So, how much weight is everyone else want to lose, and how much have you lost using PMK already? I'm at my heaviest weight ever and want to lose 3 to 3 and a half stone.
