1001 replies

NormaSknockers · 30/12/2010 10:18

Welcome one and all - if you're following the new WW ProPoints plan then this is the thread for you!

Whether you need to lose a little or a lot you'll be right at home, we're friendly, supportive and we're all in the same boat!

androbb is our resident stats checker and helps to track what we've lost as a thread so far, nothing more motivating then seeing just how much weight is coming off.

Feel free to dive in and join us Grin

afternoon - ive been doing ww but cant get my head round the new pp so i stick to the old ww

it obviously worked for 15yrs :) and i lost 4 stone on it 7yrs ago

good luck all :)

the shred is a dvd, where you do a section every day, section 1 for beginners, then 2 and 3 and by the time you have done it for a month, you should be on section 3 and dying fit :)

NormaSknockers · 02/01/2011 14:22

Afternoon all - crikey I've missed a fair bit [shock Grin

Welcome and hello to Lobsters, Mummy and Shiney (fancy seeing you here Wink, fab loss well done you!) and other newbies I've missed you're in the right place for support and general guidence! We're all trying to achieve the same thing and even though some of us have been following the new plan for a few months now we're all still learning so feel free to ask anything and we'll do our best to prove the answers Grin

Sounds like you did well at the buffet vnmum especially as you were limited on low pointed foods, fab stuff not having second helpings of dessert too - I so know what you mean about usually having to be pryed away from the table Wink That's a really good step and it's all those subtle things like that, that make such a big change in the long run.

Good name change Lucky very apt Grin How are you feeling today?

Very good goals androbb, vnmum & wynken it's great to break it down into smaller ones I always think as you can focus on each one seperately!

Lucky it's you who sets your goal, you tell your leader the goal you want to achieve, you just can't go any lower then a BMI of 18. You have total control of your goal, once you've reached goal you become a gold member and as long as you stay within 5lbs of that goal you don't have to pay. You can decide to lose more if you wish as well.

Blondes you need to give it a really good go, it takes a good few weeks to get into & I'm still learing a few months in but IMO it's much better then the old system and you can eat so much more on PP yet still lose a good, steady weight. The first week I lost 6lbs!

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 02/01/2011 14:29

i just cant get it :(

have done old ww for so long that its stuck in my brain

i shall plod along doing it old ww, but may pop on here, if thats ok?

i know old way so well, and i also never go to meetings as refuse to pay £5 or so a week to lose weight, and just do it home alone

vnmum · 02/01/2011 14:40

I have done 30 day shred day 1 this morning. I will be stiff tomorrow, i can already feel my legs aching. I was hoping to do my week 5 run from C25K but my legs didn't have the strength after the shred, lol

i earned 4 activity points for 20mins shredding but i am hoping not to use any of them so i may lose a bit more at WI on thurs. it is my first official WI at group on thursday so i want to do well this week.

hope everyone else is getting on ok today. i must say that i feel hungrier today after exercising this morning so i am fighting the urge to snack but i have fruit so hoprfully i will stay in control

NormaSknockers · 02/01/2011 14:42

I was the same, I'd been following the old plan for a good 6 years and it took me at least 3 weeks to feel like I was getting somewhere with PP but if you stick with it and give it time you will get the hang I promise.

You're of course welcome to post here but obviously we're all following the new plan so that's what we all discuss :)

OP posts:
NormaSknockers · 02/01/2011 14:45

How are you finding the C25K vnmum? I started running again this week but without the podcasts this time as I thought I'd just do what I could and see how it went :) Blimey well done on the Shred too, fab work Grin I don't use the exercise points either, I figure it just helps the weight loss not to use them Wink Do you like hot drinks? Would a nice cuppa help to stave off the hunger a bit?

OP posts:
NormaSknockers · 02/01/2011 14:46

Ooppss - lots of smileys there!

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 02/01/2011 14:55

smileys are good :)

i shall consider pp ........ Grin

have found if im hungary/peckish then a hot ribena fills the hole, obv sugar free/lighter version

vnmum · 02/01/2011 16:19

norma i am finding the c25k ok. i actually started last new year but kept getting so far then getting ill. the last time was in july when i had got to week 6 then got pneumonia and couldn't do it for about a month afterwards. i then started back at week 4 i think then stopped again in november coz i had cold after cold. I did do week 5 run 1 on 23rd dec but haven't done it since so i really do need to get back on so i don't have to go back a week when i start again. the only problem is, is that i physically can't do a run and shred in the same workout session so i am going to have to find time to space them out during the day. this will be easier when DD starts nursery on 10th jan.

with regards to the hot drink, i might see how many points chicken bovril is and have that as a savoury drink if it is no points

boodleboot · 02/01/2011 16:33

right....the time has come......i am going to start the shred....will check in later if i am still alive...one of my friends started it this morning and said it is v good....

ill be back....Grin

hmc · 02/01/2011 16:54

Hope it went well boodleboot. It is good for changing your shape and muscle tone quite quickly. I am a fan of Jillian Michaels (was an avid viewer of Biggest Loser USA), and have the Shred DVD. However me thinks it is has the whiff of a fad / craze about it. I use the DVD but not every day because it pays to keep an exercise regime varied and interesting - if it is the same old, same old all the time it is hard to maintain motivation. I mostly use it when I am pressed for time and only have sub 30 minutes for a work out. That said - I do enjoy it

hmc · 02/01/2011 16:58

blondeshavemorefun - I think the new propoints system has two big advantages over the old. First fruit is free so if you have used all your points up and you are still hungry then you've still got options. The second is the 49 weekly propoints - so if you have need to go out for a meal or give in to temptation, you can offset this against your weekly propoints allocation without that horrible sinking feeling that you've blown your diet and ruined it for the week.

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/01/2011 17:17

True fruit is now free but you also get a higher amount of points each day which kinda balances it out

The extra/free 49pp a week is prob not good for me as although I eat out a lot I do generally keep within in daily/weekly p allowance

Do you have to eat the extra wwpp?

If you don't do you still lose weight?

Surely if you didn't eat them then it's the same as having 6/7extra p a day thus balancing out the free fruit if you ate it every day

I guess I can't understand how you can eat nearly an extra 50pp a week and still lose weight?

I do have several friends following the new plan but 2 are veggies and say it's hard

LuckyLight · 02/01/2011 18:25

vnmum & Norma thanks for the info re goal weights, will look up later.

Blondes I would echo what hmc and the others are saying, I had done old WW for over 10 years, never went to meetngs but did it myself at home and weighed myself. I did lose weight, but I am a massive fan of the new system, I lost 10 lbs in 5 weeks before Christmas, I had never lost that much so quickly. It took me about 2 weeks to get used to. Now, I love it, esp the free fruit and the bonus 49 pps are brilliant, as I still get to have a 'treat' day a week but stay within pps. Most of us on the thread have been doing it since end Nov, and I think it's safe to say we are all converts. I like the fact that I only really have to point my 3 meals a day, and as long as I eat fruit inbetween, I don't have to worry.

Today I had 3 courses at Pizza Express and only went over my daily pps by 5 pps!!!!!!!

I would def recommend just trialing it for 3-4 weeks to see how you get on. It was a bit faffy at first, as I new the old points value for my regular food, but now I know the pps value for all my regualr meals etc.

Throat bit better today, thanks Norma. Mangaged Garlic bread, a Leggera pizza (low cal) and cheesecake at Pizza express without too many problems....and they were worth every calorie!!!

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/01/2011 18:37

lucky I love this leggero pizzas - totally yummy and you feel you have eaten a treat :)

I will have a look online for the new books on eBay etc and maybe try and get my head round it

hmc · 02/01/2011 19:26

Blondes - I eat each and every one of my daily points and 49 weekly points and have lost every week when following the plan (average 2.5 lbs per week). I shall have gained at this Wednesday's weigh in however - but that's my fault and not the plan Blush

Sounds like you had a veritable feast Lucky and still managed to stay on track. I'll have to go to Pizza Express next time dh suggests a family meal

LuckyLight · 02/01/2011 19:33

Blondes, check with Norma but she was selling her new books and calculator on here I think??

hmc We had lots of meals out before Christmas, and 9 times out of 10 we went to Pizza exp, cos looking in the eating guide, it seems to have the healthiest options, and we can use our pikey Tesco coupons so it's cheaper too!!! It's also very child friendly, so a bit of a winner really!

androbbob · 02/01/2011 21:57

blondes - what you need to remember is to forget all you know about old WW points as they are not the same. There is no direct comparison with the old points and ProPoints - so for example a 2 point yoghurt will not be 4 ProPoints. It is not worked out on cals and sat fat, it is more technical, apparently! It does really work. I used to lose weight on the old plan but half a pound or nothing a week, say 2 to 3 pounds a month. I lost 7 pounds in two weeks on this new plan and I am now upto 10 pounds lost! really unload the old points system from your head and give the new plan a few weeks. You will have to weigh and measure things until you get the idea in your head - which is not a bad thing, but please give it a go! I have read of some people on the WW forum who have gone back to the old plan as the new one doesnt suit, but I guess its not one fit for all!

Had an ok day today - went to the gym and then to friends for the afternoon - unfortunatly there was a buffet - all beige apart from a bowl of salad! So I loaded my plate with that and some indian nibbles and hoped for the best! I have had no tea though as was eating at 3pm having had a left over stir fry for lunch. That certainly wasnt planned and I have used all my weekly allowance on NYE, so will have to fit some more exercise in to counterbalance it!

Hope all are gearing up for a good weight loss this week!!

LuckyLight · 02/01/2011 22:05

Just sitting here looking through all my Good Food mags from last year (friend got me a subsrciption) and pulling out all recipes I think I'd cook, and working out pps per serving. Quite time consuming, quite dull, but will be worth it! I too want to start trying some new recipes, def stuck in a rutt. Mainly cos we eat with the kids as often as we can and their repertoire is probably about 10-15 meals that we rotate Hmm.

vnmum · 02/01/2011 22:31

Ok, i am sat here feeling crap because i have had 3 rich tea biscuits and a big bar of galaxy bubbles. DH got some beer and got me some chocolate too as that is our ritual. I don't even know why i ate it coz i didn't really want it and now feel like i'll not be able to make the points up with exercise and will have a crap WI on thursday. I so wanted to lose this week and now feel like i've blown it for no reason. Why do i do it?
I am gonna decide now that if DH wants beer then thats fine but i won't partake in the usual ritual of chocolate. Looks like i'm beasting myself with exercise for the rest of the week

LuckyLight · 02/01/2011 22:49

vnmum Chill out luv!! We've all done it....remember the mantra....draw a line under it, forget it and continue as usual tomorrow. Did you work out how many pps whole bar was? Prob no more than 20?? Can't you just use your weekly allowance? If not, you can do some exercise to burn some of it off...don't be so hard on yourself!!

NEXT TIME you are tempted, you will remember how crap it made you feel and you'll resist!!

dachshundfan · 02/01/2011 23:40

aah vnmum never mind, i was very close to a takeaway tonight so "there but for the grace of chips goes I" etc etc.
hmc its nice to hear that using all of daily points and weekly points still leads to weight loss, I know I'm only on day 3 but haven't felt hungry yet which I should feel pleased about but I feel a bit disconcerted Hmm iykwim.

NormaSknockers · 03/01/2011 07:54

Morning all,

Are we all ready for weigh in this week? Nervous? Excited? Not bothered?

I am expecting (& hoping) to STS as I think that's the most likely outcome, I've done ok this week, stuck to points etc but it always a week later that my good loss shows, no idea why that it is!

Blondes no you absolutely do not have to use the extra weekle points if you don't want to. You can use them in any way you want, be that an extra 7 a day, all in one day, spread across a few or not at all the choice is yours. Personally, I use mine every single week and I still lose, I average 2lbs a week which I'm more then happy with. I have ladies who attend my metting with me who never use their weekly points and lose the same amount as me, others have lost maybe 0.5-1lb more. With regards to the fruit it has all been calculated for you by WW so instead of giving you say 40 daily points they give you a minimum of 29 and made the fruit/veg free. That said it doesn't mean you can eat 6 bananas in one day, you need to be sensible with it, my leader has said to us that once we have eaten 5 portions of fruit to start pointing it which makes complete sense to me. Same with the veg, once you have eaten 5 portions of that a day start to point it.

You only need to read the previous thread to see just how successful this new plan is, in the few months this thread has been running jointly we have lost over 8 stone (androbb will be able to confirm the corect loss as she is our resident stat checker) yes some of us have aexperienced a small gain here and there but that is nothing unexpected and certainly no different to the old WW way.

If you can Blondes get yourself to a meeting, if only just once, you will get all the information you need there and you can ask the leader anything you need to know. I honestly do think it's worth going along if even only just the once.

How did the shred go Boodle are you still alive? Grin

Ooo sounds like you had a lovely meal out Lucky and well worth the extra points Wink How's your throat today?

vnmum right, stop beating yourself up as of this second ok? One small slip is not going to mean you have a huge gain when you step on the scales. Do you have any weekly points left you can use? If so use them and stop feeling guilty, if not work out how many points you went over and either do a little more exercise, not so much you kill yourself, or just be extra vigilant the next few days. Please don't feel bad, we're still in that 'oh it's Christmas' phase at the moment, so you ate some chocolate and a had a beer. It's not like you consumed and entire family size bar of chocolate and washed it down with a family size chocolate cake (and believe me, not too long ago I would have done that!!). It's ok, I promise :)

Lucky is it worth you getting a few WW recipe books? Some of the recipes are delicious. There's some on offe in WHSmith at the moment for £5.99 and I believe one or two of them are in the new ProPoints values Grin

I'm feeling overwhelmed by the thought of having to work out all the bleeding points Blush

I for some reason seem to flinch at the thought. It may be I'm just looking for excuses that because I cook from scratch I have to weigh everything and can't be arsed that

I'm on week 7.....and have never tracked.......and in return...it shows on the scales.......I think I'm on the wrong diet.
