November challenge! 10lbs to lose before Christmas!! Wanna join?

ninaandbean · 02/11/2010 15:07

I know it's not the first of the month, but I'm only a day late :) I seriously need to kick start my body bootcamp before Christmas - just returned a pair of jeans for a bigger size, only to find that the BIGGER ONES DON'T FIT!!

Enough is enough! I'm sticking to 1300 cals a day and walking 30mins daily. Postnatal SPD pretty much limits me to that, when it comes to exercise. I've been feeling really fed up with the pelvic pain too, so I need to do something about getting the old me back :)

Nothing complicated, just good, simple food, and straightforward moving/walking a bit more. Anyone up for it? We can weigh in on Sundays and share what we lost (rather than our actual weight lol) to cheer each other on?

Six weeks till Christmas!! Can I lose 10lb???

My first day on the diet - I've put on 7 pounds since my last weigh in!! Did really well today. Had 1 slice toast for breakfast, a nice cupasoup for lunch and giant dinner of spicy rice with a couple of prawns. I couldnt' help having a nice big wedge of home made banana loaf (oops), but still pleased I managed a restricted diet today. I'll try to keep up momentum and keep you posted. I'm aiming to lose that 7 pounds in 2 weeks. Maybe being over optimistic?!

ninaandbean · 09/11/2010 11:13

7lb in two weeks would mostly be water weight hon, and would mostly come back on right away when you eat 'normally' - 2-3 lbs max is probably possible in a week.

I'm aiming for 1-2lbs a week because: (here's the science bit) if you want to lose fat not muscle, you need a calorie defecit of 3500cal per pound of fat. So that means taking a 2000 cal a day diet down to around 1500 per day, so that in a week, you would lose 1lb of fat. Restricting your diet more than that puts your body into starvation mode (and would be miserable to do!), and ultimately makes your body hold onto your energy in more fat stores!! So it's better to eat a bit less, and do a bit more, so it comes off gradually. If you burn 500 cal a day as well as eat around 1500 (for a normal woman) you'll prob average a 2lb loss a week, which would all be actual fat coming off.

How's everyone doing today? I've finally started to pay attention to Low GI foods and am eating porridge in the morning. It really does seem to work - I don't feel hungry at all before lunch - Cheerios just weren't cutting it before! And I made a takeaway from home last night, chicken rogan josh, plaun boiled rice and saag aloo... I'm super impressed with myself! I prob ate less of it than I would have if it were real take out, and I burned calories in the kitchen instead of sitting on the sofa waiting for the delivery man lol. Onwards and upwards!

:) cheers on fellow November babes hurrah!

Do a 5 day fast - seriously effective and the weight stays off. Have done three now over past few years and I lose about 9lb every time, which helps to kick start weight loss program!

ninaandbean · 09/11/2010 11:48

how do you do your fast clamarg?? Just water, just fluids? Or the lemon/water/maple syrup and chilli fast? I've never been able to maintain one of those - I get terrible headaches!

I've done well today too! Hooray! Weetabix for breakfast, cupasoup with x 2 breadsticks for lunch and spagetti for dinner. I know, very dull, but haven't gone mental on any inbetweens for 2 whole days (I know there's time yet). Let's see if I manage a whole week. I could kill for a glass of wine though - it's been a tough day.

littledolly · 11/11/2010 08:47

Hello ladies!

I had slipped a little in the last few days food wise (had sneaked in a few biscuits) but still managed to keep my meals healthy go to the gym. Weighed myself this morning and have lost 2lbs, so pleased with that!

Am out for dinner tonight, so going to try to fit a gym session in after work if I can - will also try to make it in the morning.

Need to get my focus back now for the next 5-6 weeks. Have seen a dress that I would like for Christmas, so am using that as my motivation.

How is everyone else getting on?

BEAUTlFUL · 11/11/2010 08:56

I love this thread! Am I too late to join? I'm 9st 11 this morning but would love to be 9st 1 by Christmas. Well, ideally by this afternoon but I'm willing to wait a bit longer!

I love the gym so will be trying to get back there more, ideally 4-5 times a week for an hour each time.

I might go back on my beloved Scarsdale Diet as the weight fell off with that last time. This morning I've had a banana and a handful of frozen berries whooshed up into a smoothie and a black coffee.

My top tip: the little Cadbury Flakes you buy in boxes to put in ice-creams are only 45 calories each!

ninaandbean · 11/11/2010 14:13

I'm feeling horrible today. Tonsilitis!
Is it bad that I'm hoping the pain will stop me snacking? LOL
BEAUTIFUL join anytime! the more the merrier

Hi can I join in? I'm on the 30 day shred threads but am trying to be mindful of diet too. Not exactly working except I've switched to Vogel bread and trying eat less ie. not have 2nds, eat more veg, and try to have protein for breakfast - egg or beans - and generally avoid sugar. I am a butter lover so can't seem to give up the President/lurpak. so am just having a thin scraping.

The dreadful weather is making me want to go to bed but will be walking down to the shops today and doing the Shred later on once food is in the oven. Chicken paprika with LF sour cream and rice and veg tonight.

Also trying to eat earlier in the eve as I am very guilty of not getting supper on the table till 9 Shock ...

Good luck all!

BEAUTlFUL · 11/11/2010 14:42

Thanks ninaandbean!

titferbrains, What's Vogel bread? I like Milk Roll bread at the moment, just 46 cals a slice (normal bread is about 90).

bettiboo · 11/11/2010 18:19

I weighed myself today and I've lost 5 pounds since Monday! I've eaten very healthy and controlled my portion size (and had no alcohol) and drank litres of water. I'm amazed - 5 pounds. Now it may be water but I don't see why it would be since I've been eating 3 square meals a day. I've had yogurt after lunch too! I'm having pizza (home baked) tonight for dinner so maybe I'll put it all back on come Monday. I don't feel any slimmer but my trousers were a little more comfortable yesterday.

titferbrains · 11/11/2010 20:05

Gosh wow 5lb is amazing. Have just had to come on this board to psych myself up to do Shred.

I am not getting enough sleep because I stay up late reading or on MN. but have read research that explains that you can lose weight just by sleeping more!! going to bed a bit earlier and having a proper amount of time to wind down etc... so I really have no excuse.

Have got food in the oven so better go do shred.

Vogel is bread with loads of seeds and nuts in it. It's totally delicious and makes me feel very worthy. No bloody idea how many cals in it but I reckon the nuts cancel out any badness.
I am rubbish at calorie counting and would gladly pay someone to tell me exactly what I should eat every day and weighing it out for me. But I'd have to cook it as cooking is my favourit thing to do! Hmm Smile

right will report back later. Hope more people have more smug reports to keep me motivated! Grin

littledolly · 12/11/2010 08:34

Well done bettiboo - delighted for you (although slightly envious!)

I was out for dinner with work colleagues last night. I did order pizza, but avioded dessert and drank water all night, so not too bad. Was at the gym at 6.30am this morning too, so feeling very virtuous.

Forgot lunch today though, so need to buy something, but on a day like that, I think the homemade soup that the cafe near us does sounds like a good option.

Happy Friday everyone Grin

titferbrains · 12/11/2010 17:44

Managed to shred before my fancy dinner with DH tonight, YES! This is day 6, found myself trying harder for some of the running to keep up with the hardcore lady, which is encouraging.

Happy friday all!

bettiboo · 12/11/2010 18:33

Happy Friday everyone. I'm still on track with my weight loss but going away for the weekend and my friend is making risotto for dinner tomorrow night, no doubt pudding and wine - it may all go back on. I'll take it easy. I'm excited to see how much I've lost on Monday.

bettiboo · 12/11/2010 18:34

ps. I'm so proud of myself!

ninaandbean · 14/11/2010 10:48

you should be proud Betti! well done! Sorry Ive not been online more, I've been laid low with tonsillitis. I don't tink it's helped me lose anything tho as I've mostly been eating soup with lots of ice cream! Luckily 16week old DS seems to have escaped, thank goodness. I'm down 3lb in total this week - woop woop! how's everyone else going? x

littledolly · 16/11/2010 13:43

After my good week last week, I seem to have undone all my good work by being superbad at the weekend! However, am back on track since yesterday - meals back to what they should be and went to my first ever circuits class last night. Always thought I wasn't fit enough for circuits, but while it definitely wasn't easy, I have lived to tell the tale today - and with very little pain!

Just met a friend for lunch and had a baked potato with plain chicken and beans, which I'm pleased about. Treated myself to a slow cooker at the weekend and have a nice stew waiting for me when I get home.

Fingers crossed I can keep my good habits up and that the weekend hasn't completely sabotaged my efforts.

How is everyone else doing this week??

ninaandbean · 22/11/2010 11:13

Hi November challenge ladies! is anyone else still in?

Sorry for my late reply Dolly - how are you doing? don't worry about a bad weekend, it will even out in the end if you're extra committed now! I hope it's going well!

I've made it to just under 12st!! 4lbs down, six to go... only four weeks to Christmas though. Can I do it?? I have a pair of size 12 jeans in my drawers that are my motivation - 11st 6 and I reckon I can get into them, I want to wear them on Christmas day! Fingers crossed!

On another note, I have lost 2 inches from my belly - baby pot is receeding :) hurrah!
