So today is D day! Diet starts today, I have my first slimming world class tonight and i am feeling quite motivated. I think I probably have around 3 stones to lose, but i would be happy to even lose 2. I just feel fat and unhealthy and have never been this big before!

So today is day 1 of sorting myself out! Just wondered if anyone else was starting today too, not just slimming world, but any thing, and wanted to have somewhere to chat, swap ideas, or get some moral support?

1lb on is not bad if you['ve enjoyed a chocolate fountain

i've just realised the yoghurt i've been eating all week was not the fat free one, it was regular activia. 3 syns each !

luckily i've stayerd within 10 syns a day but i was blithely eating them and thought they were free !!

raaaaaaaaaaaaaargh

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 14/10/2010 18:49

Thank you for the birthday wishes. I was very dedicated and went this morning to group, lost 2lbs and got my stone and a half sticker which was a lovely birthday present, as was wearing a size 18 skirt. I was born the same year SW started but don't mind being 41 as am thinner this year.

Went for coffee after with a friend, then to Prezzo with my Mum for lunch, picked up DC's then popped into friend's on way home as she'd bought me flowers. Dad rang as I got through the door then mid conversation my neighbour popped a present in. So am now starving and waiting for my jacket spud to crisp up. Have been a paragon of virtue but I've spotted a chocolate cake in a cupboard . Hope everyone is OK and apologies for not having read the thread, will catch up properly tomorrow.

Lulumaam · 14/10/2010 20:16

well done wynken, enjoy the cake xx

Lizzylou · 14/10/2010 21:18

Happy Birthday Wynken Smile nice to have a loss on your birthday too.

I have been good today (though have a glass of wine Blush my only syns today though).

Wierdly I am eating far more than I ever normally do, which I remember from last time I did SW. Am eating lots of Quorn as can't get my head round the Extra Easy thing, it was just red day/green day in my day Grin

Feel full and have had nice food so, all good.

FoJo · 14/10/2010 21:35

I've beed doing SW for 4 weeks and got my half stone yesterday. I too did it 10 years ago so finidng the 'extra easy' difficult to stick to but I'm tending to mix things a bit by having (say) a green lunch and a red dinner.
'FREE' CHEESE SPREAD
Someone at our group yesterday shared this one - dont know if its a sw standard or an invention of her own but its really good. Get a tub of total 0% greek yoghurt (free) and tip it into a bowl and add a little salt (not sure if this is just for flavour or it actaully does something). I also added a few garlic flakes. Mix it and pour it onto the centre of a new 'J' cloth. Tie with elastic band and then tie the top of the cloth to the bars on the shelf of the fridge and place a bowl underneath for it to drain into. Leave it for about 6 hours (sounds a faff but it takes seconds). You then have something resembling philadelphia - and its free!

Melty · 15/10/2010 13:48

Well done FoJo.
I have to say, I find it a bit odd too. Cant really get my brain round the concept of potatoes with my chicken or a big plate of meatballs and spaghetti!
However, it is working for me!
One of the girls at work has been doing it for 2 weeks and had never done SW before. She has had 2 weigh-ins now and has lost 3 and a half the first week, and 4 the second week. (She scored slimmer of the week too!)

I stick the odd red day in with it so I can have porridge and a sandwich (ie 2 HE bs) and I have to be honest, I dont go mad on the carbs when I am doing easy extra, as I always found it harder to lose on green days in the past.
On saying that, I am eating loads of superfree veg and fruit, so I am never hungry, and have my daily syns too.
So I suppose I am losing because I am actually eating like a normal person these days!

desiretochange · 15/10/2010 15:09

Have never tasted Quorn in my life, while shopping yesterday I seen some Quorn sausages in frozen food section, debating whether or not to chance them for me tea this evening, how far removed taste wise are they from normal sausages Confused

desiretochange · 15/10/2010 16:34

Hello . . Anyone there??

findingtheRialme · 15/10/2010 16:53

taste and texture different to proper sausages desire, but I don't mind them!

desiretochange · 15/10/2010 16:56

Thanks finding, problem is I love sausages but they are so bad for me if I want to lose weight, any suggestions on how to cook them and somehow convince myself that they are gorgeous??

Melty · 15/10/2010 17:16

I like them, especially the Brambley apple and Cumberland ones.
The Branston pickle ones are synned tho, as they have a fair bit of fat.
I spray mine and bung them in the oven at 200 degrees for about 20 mins.

I cant abide the chicken style pieces or the mince though. Its the texture.

If you really like "real" sausages why not get the low fat ones that dont have many syns.
Can't remember which ones are best off the top of my head as I dont eat sausages much but I'm sure somwone can oblidge.

DontCallMeBaby · 15/10/2010 18:43

We had the chilled Quorn sausages in a casserole and they were Not Nice. I mentioned them to a veggie friend who agreed they were Not Nice, but that Linda McCartney ones were quite nice.

I've been rubbish today - still full of cold, took the day off work, desparatedly NEEDED tea and cake. So I made a batch of muffins - I gave four away, DD has had one, DH has had two, but I've eaten THREE and there are two left, mocking me.

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 15/10/2010 18:54

One of the Morrison sausages are half a syn and Joes sausages which you can get online (expensive though) are syn free.

Fojo, love that cheese spread idea, am going to try that .

Dontcallme, sorry you are feeling rough but step away from the muffins!

Has anyone seen the Christmas cookbook? I got one free with the countdown I bought and it is very impressive, was very relieved to see a Christmas pudding recipe. I didn't eat cake last night but had trifle instead which was lovely. Made mincemeat couscous cake today but as muffins. Spent ages Reading all the stuff about whether they needed to be synned and decided they did so have had 9 syns so far as I had 2. Very tasty though, a bit like bread pudding and I'll definitely make them again.

Melty · 15/10/2010 19:24

DCMB
I agree, NOT nice in casserole. They go a bit soggy or something.
But baked in oven, they go crispy and are nice with mash and a fried egg!

whatkungfuthat · 15/10/2010 19:47

Hello Ladies, can I join? I've been doing SW (extra easy) since the end of July. Its all gone a bit awry over the last few weeks as I had a horrible tummy bug which meant I lost 7lbs in a week and have lost nothing since despite killing myself on the wii fit doing hours of free step, walking everywhere and using one of those shake weights. Sad

findingtheRialme · 15/10/2010 21:57

I like the quorn sausage cassoulet recipe, and similar with added chilli. Also like them with mash and beans, though I've only tried the plain frozen ones.

M'sons eat smart ones are free/very low syn, though I prefer the chipolatas (am sure I have a magazine that says they are free on red, but it will be old, so no doubt they are now 25 syns each or somethingWink) Also worth checking your local butchers - when I used to go to group there was a lady who was married to a butcher who had got to target and he had "created" syn-free burgers and sausages and sold them (at vast cost) in their shop.

I need to bake for a coffee morning tomorrow, but a) can't find a recipe that is easy/impressive enough that I have the ingerdients for, and b) can't be arsedBlush. Will have to get up early in the morning and make scones (OK) and buns (pretty naff). DS1 made scones tonight at youth group (why didn't he make 12 more?) and served them to me and my parents with half a tub of butter on each half! Yummy though Blush

ditavonteesed · 16/10/2010 10:04

bad week, have been feeling a bit off all week and not been very good, had fish and chips last night. now need to get back on track, wooried that because I have decided I can't really afford to go to group I will just lose it.

whatkungfuthat · 16/10/2010 11:29

I made a healthy stir fry with all free ingredients and put on 2lbs overnight Shock. I'm hoping its just the weight of the noodles!

Melty · 16/10/2010 11:44

Kungfu, try not to weigh yourself every day. Weight fluctuates from day to day, depending on the time of day, whether or not you need a wee or if even if you need a poo.
Drink plenty of water too. Most of us dont drink enough. And it seems to make a difference when losing weight too. dont know why. (Might have even made that one up, but think I read it somewhere!)

Dita, keep coming here. If the only reason you dont want to go to group is financial, and not because you feel bad for not being "good", then youll be fine.
I think you have to be in the right frame of mind, and once you are, its easy to keep going. I think there are enough people to support you on here if you need it...

ditavonteesed · 16/10/2010 12:08

cheers melty, just written everything down and have lost 9lbs since we started, which is 5% so actrually really good, want to increase excercise but a bit bored of wii fit (take dog out twice a day and walk everywhere already, so I have just ordered the 30 day shred, just read the thread and think I may regret that decision. argh.

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 16/10/2010 13:09

Dita, Melty talks sense (as usual), keep coming, we can talk syns or points to you, whichever you need us to do. 9lbs is two marrows which is flipping heavy.

Kungfu, I'm trying to ditch the daily weighing habit as it definitely is counterproductive. I know this might sound silly but are you eating enough? I wonder if your body went into starvation mode after your bug and is still refusing to let any weight go. Are you doing EE, if so are you doing a third superfree with everything you eat ie fruit as well as a yoghurt, our consultant said this can help.

I have been listening to hypnosis, Paul McKenna and someone called Glen Harrold, thought a bit of back up to SW wouldn't do any harm. And after listening to them I don't want takeaway curry any more so am going for Sainsbury's veg Dansak with a bit of chicken added. Can't be bothered to cook so this is my compromise. My Mum is going to start in a week or so as my brother has very kindly said he will pay for us all to go out to stay with him in Thailand Christmas 2011, so that is my target date. I've never done a longhaul flight before but I imagine it isn't very comfy when your backside is huge and I worry about DVT, so this is a huge incentive.

findingtheRialme · 16/10/2010 14:12

LOL at 2 marrows!

I must have lost at least a stone this morning running round baking, then unexpectedly manning the teas and coffees at the coffee morningWink. I had to answer the door to DS1s youth group leader in my PJs this morning (a la Nigella), funnily enough it didn't have the Nigella effecton himWink

have to go out tonight - cricket presentation

hope you all have a great weekend.

whatkungfuthat · 16/10/2010 14:49

I wondered about the starvation mode too. I do eat loads of fruit as well as Muller lights but I know that superfree doesn't make up a third of a meal as I usually have them during the day so I'll make an effort to do this. I've been weighing myself on the wii before I do any exercise so must stop this every day!

Have a good evening everyone and thanks for the advice.

Melty · 16/10/2010 16:00

Paul McKenna hypnosis never worked for me from a weight loss point of view, but those cds were very good for helping me fall asleep!
I have made a few curries, and its a lot easier than I would have thought and they were sooo satisfying.

And if you want moreish, (not curry, but very nicely spicy), try that Nasi Goreng recipe from slimmingeats.com. (Cheap too. Uses mince, rice onions peas and a pepper with spices)
Oh... My... God. Yum. Just need to remind myself to have a bowel of veggies next to it when I am eating it!

Marrows made me laugh too Smile. Yesterday I had to move these big 5L bags of fluid at work.
It made me start wonder a bit,as they weighed a tonne. Or felt like it. Actually they weighed 5KG. which is of course 11 lbs.(I have lost 11.5 lbs)

All I could think of is my poor poor feet. No wonder they hurt so much at the end of the day, carrying round all that excess.
Helps put it into perspective, since I am still inbetween sizes so dont feel like I have got slim yet. (which of course I haven't with another 5 stone or so to go!)

Not the same viual effect as SWs little blob of 2lbs of fat but certainly made me feel good! I recommend you go to Tescos and fill a basket with 18 packs of unsalted butter. (each one is 250g which is about half a pound) You'd be surprised at how heavy that is.
