Ah a lovely new thread. Still struggling on the final furlong here like a few others. I joined the gym in June. Until then I’d lost 12.5 stones in 15 months (quick I know) and have a BMI just a few lbs overweight. My appetite since then seems to have made a massive recurrence, not just in volume but wanting sweet treats/ carbs again for the first time in a long time. I’ve been on 12.5mg since January.

In the last 3 months to the day I’ve lost half a pound. I’m so frustrated with myself, it feels like a waste and I’m starting to exercise less so I eat less. The answer seems obvious typing this out but do I up to 15mg for the final push? I’m a healthy weight now but really want to drop another stone, feel a bit less flabby (albeit I have no boobs now and plenty of loose skin) and give myself a bit of a buffer? I think I’ve been trying to save money but maybe not moving up is a false economy- I’m already buying 15mg pens from MMP and getting 5 doses rather than 4..

MoneyJo · 23/10/2026 07:33

Just give it a go on 15 @Onenotsosmallstep if you want to shift that last bit.

@Newmummy343 and @EnterSandfan do a thought experiment:

  • if you went one day without eating any added sugar at all, how would that day be? Would it be difficult, enjoyable, impossible, what? How do you think you might feel physically, emotionally?
  • now think about not eating sugar ever again for the rest of your life. How does that feel?

The difference between the way I think about those two questions is why I started off by telling myself I was going to do 24 hours without sugar. That’s all - and then I could have some again. For someone who is a hardcore multiple sweet things a day person, even one day was tough. Tough, but possible. Even doing that gave me a buzz.

Eventually I did several days back to back, before I cracked. Then did it again. I actually managed 10 months of sugar-free before a brief lapse this summer. At the moment, I’m on 10 weeks of renewed sugar abstinence.

But it starts with one day.

So interesting. Feb 25 I decided to cut sugar and had a few months where I ate no processed sugar if I could help it. So no biscuits or cakes or chocolate. I lost 1 stone 9 and felt much better. However I then relaxed and gained 4lb and that's when I realised I needed more help and started MJ.

It's hard but I always feel better if I minimise sugar. It really is that addictive white powder! And now I've written this I can see that sugar has crept back into my diet in small doses over the last couple of months and won't have helped my minimal loss in that time.

SilenceInside · 23/10/2026 08:09

I am currently on a total sugar break, this week, in an effort to get back onto regular weight loss rather than my current bouncing around the 70kg mark. It definitely makes a big difference in how much I think about food and eating in general, the sugar highs and lows really mess with me.

At the beginning with Mounjaro, it was easy to avoid sugar as my appetite was so suppressed, but long term it is definitely a more subtle effect.

Missingducks · 23/10/2026 08:27

I went to London yesterday to meet friends - went on train. Didn't buy a snack for the train. Meat and salad for lunch, didn't need or want chips or a pud or a second glass of wine. No snack at station waiting for train home but I did look at the fantastic foods on offer and simply didn't buy and consume. So the money spent this month on the jab has part paid for itself as I didn't spend on excess food on my day out!
The freedom MJ gives me to make better choices is huge.

TimeMist · 23/10/2026 09:51

Thanks for the new thread. 😊

Week 36 weigh in. Sadly only 0.1kg off since last week, but the month average is better.

SW 122.7 kg (19 st 4 lb)
CW 93.8 kg (14 st 11 lb)

So a little over 8 months in and 4.5 stone down, which I'm pretty proud of.

I like to see my loses over 4 week periods, to help decide on dosing, rather than worry about a single slow week.

Week 4 - 6.8kg
Week 8 - 5.3kg
Week 12 - 3.2kg
Week 16 - 3.0kg
Week 20 - 2.7kg
Week 24 - 2.5kg
Week 28 - 1.8kg
Week 32 - 1.6kg
Week 36 - 2.0kg

I've been on 7.5mg for 7 weeks, and I would be tempted to jump to 10mg, however I've been hit by sulphur burps leading to d&v over a couple of weekends this month. So I think I'll stick it out to see if that settles.

This was an interesting book about giving up sugar which I read recently. The author and her whole family gave up all sugar (specifically fructose in most contexts) for a year. I found her occasionally quite annoying, but it was thought provoking nonetheless. I don’t think I could go as far as they did!

@PuzzledObserver what does avoiding sugar mean for you? Just added sugar? Do you eat fruit still? Scrutinise labels?

For me, the biggest problem food has always been crisps. I just never eat them at all now, ever. I have come to accept that I cannot have a normal, moderate relationship with crisps. Luckily they are easier to cut out than all sugar!

PuzzledObserver · 23/10/2026 11:35

@FourSeasonsTotalLandscaping I abstain from added sugar and other sweeteners, with a couple of rare exceptions. The first is that I will eat up to 2 squares of 85% dark chocolate per day, which has about 3g of sugar. It doesn’t “set me off” like milk chocolate or cake does. You mention reading labels - fact is, the vast majority of my meals are prepared from scratch by me. When I first gave up sugar, I was absolutely scrupulous about reading labels, but on the odd occasion when I buy a ready meal now, I’m prepared to allow a small amount to slip in. But I keep an eye on it - if I found it was stoking cravings, I would step away.

I do eat fruit, but not vast quantities, and mainly lower sugar fruit such as berries.

Crisps and roasted nuts were also a problem for me, along with peanut butter (from the jar, with a spoon). When I first gave up sugar, I substituted salty snack foods instead. So they are also on my “red list” and I no longer eat them.

Fffreeeeezing · 23/10/2026 11:44

Just me that has no plans to give up sugar??! I love chocolate, eat it everyday and have no plans to stop 🤣

TragicMuse · 23/10/2026 11:50

I don’t have an especially sweet tooth so I do have sugar!

My major weakness is crisps and savoury things. Wotsits/cheese puffs render me helpless! Cheese over chocolate every time!

So I do allow myself a biscuit or 4, but I count it and if I’m over calories I steer away. OTOH, I rarely eat crisps now! But if I do, I really enjoy and appreciate them.

I can’t do total deprivation because then I just want it more. So the lesson for me is enjoying in moderation - learning that I can have the things I like without feeling either like I need to eat all of it or that I have been cheated. And then making a choice about what and how much and when.

Though I know that doesn’t work for everyone, nothing is that simple!

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 23/10/2026 11:51

No plans to give up sugar here either - it's never been my main downfall, and the MJ is helping me to regulate it. My biggest trigger is bread and butter, or other carby/fatty/salty foods - I could binge on them for days.

Billybingbong · 23/10/2026 12:13

I too don't have much of a sweet tooth, and haven't had chocolate since probably last Christmas when I dipped into the quality street tub.

Crisps on the other hand, I could eat my body weight, and still want more. I avoided them completely when I first started the MJ, but they are starting to creep back in, and I can't seem to resist them at the moment. And I still haven’t learned the art of moderation, I could polish off a whole share bag in one sitting! I really need to get a grip before it gets out of hand

I'm with you @Fffreeeeezing

I always had a sweet tooth but now I buy the mini/treatsize chocolates and sweets and put them in a tub which stays in the kitchen cupboard (this is important - if it is by the sofa then it is too easy to get seconds).

This way I don't feel deprived and I can pick from my tub depending on what I fancy and what I have the calories left for.

....all that said when I titrate down I'll adjust my strategy if it is problematic.

If you want a healthier alternative to crisps then I recommend trying roasted chickpeas or fava beans. Lots of flavours and give you the crisp hit but low calorie and decent protein

PuzzledObserver · 23/10/2026 13:41

The key question (IMO) on whether to give up any specific food is whether you can moderate it or not, if it’s a food which is not wise to consume in unlimited quantities.

If you CAN - then no problem, include it as part of your overall eating plan. So, for example, I can, and do, moderate alcohol. I seldom drink, and when I do, I usually enjoy it and then stop after one or two glasses, and then simply don’t think about it for weeks or months. But chocolate, crisps etc - if I have some, I want more. And I’m either going to give in and have more - and the amount will escalate over time - or I’m going to have to fight myself really hard not to give in.

I would rather not do either of those. The only way for me to achieve that, from experience is to abstain completely. That gives me peace of mind.

Don’t get me wrong. I would absolutely LOVE to have a packet of crisps, or a pudding, a few times a week. Couldn’t hurt, right? Not on the weight loss front at least. But in my experience it WOULD hurt me. Either it would trigger more eating, or I would have to use huge amounts of energy not to overeat.

So at the end of the day, it’s not worth it to me.

The only other thing I’ll say is that I spent years rationalising that a little wouldn’t hurt, even though I could never eat just a little. I was unwilling to see the truth, until I was ready.

I completely gave up crisps 6 months before I started monjroro..I have no control.. chocolate I can have a stash of ,and I like having a stash so I can just have a small amount with a coffee each day ..I'm pretty sure monjroro couldn't stop me eating crisps,so I can't buy any ready salted ones

I watch this woman on social media, and every day she has a packet of crisps for her lunch with a sandwich.. something so simple .. something I would love to have the willpower to do ...you stop at two slices of bread ,you open a large bag of crisps, the ones you actually like ,you take a handful and put the bag away for tomorrow..I don't that I will ever be able to do that

Springflowers2 · 23/10/2026 14:07

I am not sure what to do ..has anyone switched to the tablet form on monjroro.??
I'm currently still going nowhere fast . trying to think how I can switch this up ...maybe change to something else ,but the stories of wagovy I've read have not been positive

I will ecstactically be dropping off of this thread for now as I have discovered I am pregnant- 2 years of unexplained infertility so this is very very welcome (if unexpected) news. Thank you to everyone who has been involved on these threads, your advice and support has been incredible and so helpful over my 10month journey. Wishing you all the very best, onwards & downwards xxx

Motnight · 23/10/2026 14:57

Hi all. I'm very quiet on these threads but really enjoy reading them. I am 28 months into MJ. Lost just over 9 stone. In theory have 3 more to lose but I think that I will be happy losing just one more stone. Got quite a lot of home and work stress currently so am happy maintaining for the next few weeks. Normally I would be face down in chocolate, crisps and Haribo.

FourSeasonsTotalLandscaping · 23/10/2026 15:01

Congratulations @Cat4324 ! Lovely bit of a news.

Just checking in onto the thread because it's very inspirational. I started with 8 and a half stone to lose so not quite 10. It's so encouraging to see how far some of you have come.

Me too, I have just a smidge under 10 to lose, so I won’t stick around, but came to see what the inspiring ladies here have been doing to keep it working when they start getting closer. I’m getting close the the halfway point of my journey and I know this is where it gets tougher so anything I can learn from these ladies is great.

Good work and good luck everyone depending on where you are in your journey

SilenceInside · 23/10/2026 15:29
