Hiya. Been on wegovy nearly 2 wks (1.5mg pill). My bmi27 im 43 and exercise. Really no effect? Im eating the same or more... 2 horrible nights one with nearly fainting after getting up too quick, the other vommitting after a heavy meal. Feel like im thinking about food the whole time as im hyper aware of taking this drug. Really not sure if its for me? Push on or ditch it?

With GLP1s the initial 4 weeks of treatment are the treatment initiation dose level, which is meant to get your system used to the medication. Many people find that they don't get much or any weight loss until they are on higher doses, even the highest dose.

Are you able to make some changes to what and how you're eating to avoid the side effects you've experienced? So don't eat a heavy meal particularly not late at night, GLP1s slow down your digestion and large portions of hard to digest food can make you feel unwell.

But of course if you keep getting side effects and no weight loss, then absolutely stop taking it.

It’s best to read up on medication before you take it, the first four weeks is to get used to the drug, then you move up the doses until you find the right dose for you,

snd you eat clean and healthy and with plenty of water as you do,

it’s quite unusual to have no idea of this and want to give up after two weeks,

Dorset555 · 21/10/2026 13:14

Thanks ive def read up on it its just disheartening seeing other people having f such positive and quick effects. Will def avoid big evening meals from now on...that was the first one thay had any effect on me. Guess my expectations were higher than they should be

Aaaah!! Why on earth did you eat a ‘heavy meal’?? Carb heavy and fatty foods often lead to unpleasant side effects on these drugs so you have to carefully plan what you’re going to eat, as exercise alone won’t make you lose weight.

You still need to eat fewer calories in order to lose weight, but the drugs usually curb your appetite enough so you don’t eat too much and some people manage to lose lots of weight without calorie counting although once they’re near to their goal weight, they do have to review their diet and consciously eat less.

The weight loss drugs were designed to tackle diabetes and obesity rather than for someone wanting to lose a few pounds so I suppose it’s not surprising that some people struggle to use them properly and don’t really think about the dietary changes they need to make. As your bmi isn’t very high, you’re probably going to have to put more effort into losing than if you’d started with a bmi in the 40’s.

Most of us former fatties have done every diet going so counting calories is almost second nature and we know roughly the calorie content of our favourite meals. At this time of year, soup is a good filling meal and lower in calories than a heavy main meal with pasta or potatoes.

I've not really noticed any impact until 9mg.

I went on Wegovy after MJ injections (which had been v successful) for maintenance. Hated it and put on weight in a month. Have moved to Foundayo and it is MUCH better for me.

Dorset555 · 21/10/2026 13:31

Thanks!! It wasn't a carb heavy meal but a chicken with cheese wrapped in bacon and veg. So I guess pretty fatty. Thanks for the tip in going to make some chicken soups. Will be going out for dinner on Friday so gonna choose carefully

Just wondering whether its worth it for me as was really hoping to notice some suppression. I may not have a huge bmi but I can assure you I think about calories and food ALL the time.

Yes, fatty foods will definitely do that for me too, so I’ve been really careful about only eating small amounts of fatty foods like bacon, cheese toasties or roast lamb etc. So you don’t have to cut them out completely, but just be a bit more cautious.

I recently bought a cheap soup maker from Aldi and it’s so easy to bung a few ingredients in, add a stock cube/stick pot and some boiling water and it’s made the soup in about 20 minutes with zero effort.

However, if you’re not feeling any real suppression, it’s worth increasing the dose and trying that fir a couple if weeks or swapping to MJ or the Foundayo tablets. No need to give up just yet.

wegogovy · 21/10/2026 16:27

I’ve been on it since the end of July and have lost about 2 stones, it’s a slow and steady process. I’d say I have mild suppression which is enough to help me make better choices (smaller portions and no snacking)

It’s hard to help you, you think about cals all the time but eat fatty food, you know you need to move up the doses and after less than two weeks it’s unlikely to have an impact,

I think you need to decide if you’re in the right headspace to do it, because you will always be able to push through and eat more than you should unless you get to such a high dose for you it makes you unwell,

if you’re not ready and just don’t want to, you don’t need to make excuses like it doesn’t work, just say not now, I will come back to it when I’m ready, you don’t need to force yourself to diet, you should only do that when mentally ready

if you are not mentally ready then you’re wasting your money,

@Charlenedickens I think that’s a bit harsh - I went on Wegovy for maintenance and put on 4lbs in a month. It made me more hyper aware of food and I was drawn to worse food than I had been having (off MJ for 5 months). I could ‘feel’ I was on something which I never had with MJ.

I’ve switched to Foundayo this month and it’s been a totally different feeling even on the lowest dose.

Clearly it does work for some people but def wasn’t for me!

Thanks for all your comments. I take your point @Charlenedickens and perhaps I have been a little lazy in my approach to this but I was expecting less food noise and its been difficult to experience more. Im going to try very hard to eat clean this next wk and then reassess if I find it easier without...without at least I feel like myself and am more inclined to exercise...with maybe I just need to get used to manging it...both mind and body. Appreciate the comments and taking all points on board!

Think I’m switching too. What’s that one like?

But that’s different and this thread isn’t about you, the op is less than two weeks into the start of her journey,

@Charlenedickens I was on Wegovy for a month and Foundayo for the last 3 weeks - I can tell the difference I feel on each of them in the early days. Appreciate this thread is not about me but I do think I have some recent short term experience 🤷‍♀️. The point is that this may not be the medication for @Dorset555 as everyone reacts differently. But agree you do still have to put in effort.

@whatcanthematterbe81 much better for me, like chalk and cheese. With the Wegovy I felt like I had something stuck in my throat and was thinking about food much more albeit not ‘hungry’ per se. So created a bit of a battle. Am not feeling that on Foundayo which is lovely! And no restrictions on when you take it which was the worst for me not having a cuppa for 30 mins in the morning!
