Is it being prescribed by your GP? What dose are you on now, presumably you are up to the 12.5mg dose or so?

HScully · 12/10/2026 09:25

Mounjaro doesn't directly cause hair loss. It is rapid weight loss that causes hair loss for people on it.

RagzRebooted · 12/10/2026 09:26

For some people it doesn't work until the highest dose. For some it doesn't work at all, unfortunately. There are other drugs in the pipeline that may be more effective for you, once they are released.

Are you counting calories?

Wildgoat · 12/10/2026 09:29

What dose are you on op?

That makes no logical sense, the drugs don’t cause hair loss, it’s the dieting, so if you’ve not lost weight you’re not in a defecit, so the hair loss will be due to something else, you need to speak to your gp about it.

as for the meds not working, you need to give more info, what dose and your diet, as the drugs don’t melt the fat off, you need to diet on them,

7.5 but no appetite suppression at all isn't that the whole idea of it
Just want to eat everything so upset 😡 as costing a fortune

Can I ask why you are still on 7.5mg? Have you been having side effects?

The obvious answer is to move up doses until it works, or you get to at least 4 weeks on 15mg and it still isn't working. At that point you would be reasonable to decide you are one of the percentage of people that Mounjaro doesn't work for.

You could then try Wegovy and see if that does anything for you.

No the whole idea is you move up to find your optimal dose, if 7.5 isn’t working you should have moved to 10.

BobbleBear · 12/10/2026 10:58

Yes, some people need to be on the highest doses for it to work so you need to move up.

Mysticmaiden · 12/10/2026 21:38

I needed 10mg for easy weight loss due to suppression and satiety but I still lost before then because I tracked my food using myfitnesspal app. You do have to reduce your calories to lose fat.
Oh and I still had hair loss and still do and I've been maintaining for a year! The only time in 2 years that it stopped was when I switched to wegovy but it came back a few days after restarting mj. My blood tests were all fine, iron normal.

Is it a private GP you're seeing if you're paying? Because like people say, it seems odd you're losing hair if no weight loss. That can be a symptom of other things. There are some people who have certain medical conditions that cause them to gain weight, despite eating very little, so I would ask your doctor for advice.

mollibu · 12/10/2026 22:11

I didn’t lose a single pound until 10mg. After I started 10mg I went on to lose 5 stone! It doesn’t work straight away for everyone.

mullers1977 · 12/10/2026 22:15

I went all the way up to 15 and still didn’t lose… now trying Wegovy but nothing so far… it doesn’t work for everyone x

butternut123 · 12/10/2026 22:21

@HScullyhate not necessarily true. Hair loss is very common with stressors to the body, this includes rapid weight loss but also strong medications as well. I’m very sensitive to medication and often have severe hair loss with new meds unfortunately.

MeridaBrave · 13/10/2026 14:13

Why taking for 5 months if not getting appetite suppression or weight loss. I’d probably try up to max dose and if it doesn’t work accept then no point in continuing

Gosh that’s very unusual
