Golden dose

Used MJ previously and then switched to wegovy for a bit of maintenance but found it pretty ineffective so having a few months back on MJ. When I used it previously I used syringes for the golden dose as couldn't seem to do the forced twist thing. I used my last dose of current syringe today and saw that there seemed to be a lot of liquid left in the pen and because I can't leave anything alone, I gave it an almighty twist and it kept on twisting until it no longer would! Does that mean I can just pop the spare needle on and I will get the extra dose? It's only the 2.5 mg pen so not worried if it's not a full dose. It seems rather easy which has thrown me as I certainly haven't been able to do it before!

Are you sure it's not a new style pen? They haven't removed the 'golden dose', they've removed the first dose. The 'golden dose' is now the 4th dose and works just as easily as the others.

If you've broken the internal mechanism by force twisting, then yes you can attach a needle, turn the pen to the 1 position and inject.

However, if you have already injected 2.5mg today do you actually want to inject another possible 2.5mg? If the pen is an old style pen with lots of leftover medication, it's usually at least 0.6ml, so another full dose.

There might still be 2.5mg old style pens with an extra dose in them. Can you tell if it is an old or new pen?

If old style there will be a full 5th dose.

I think it must be the old style as looks to be the same as I used to have in my pens. I did the normal dose thinking there would be nothing left as had assumed it was the new style pen but then saw there was a fair bit left but I have no syringes left so just because I can't keep my hands to myself, gave it a hefty twist and it twisted all the way round until it wouldn't twist anymore! I have put the cap back on so thought it might be safe to keep it that way until next weeks dose? I'd rather do that than order syringes if possible as I never really liked using them.
@ScaramoucheCanYouDoTheFandango Thanks for the diagrams - its def the old style.

My 2.5mg pens have always had the extra dose and yes I just give it a strong twist until it keeps twisting.

You can try it, a full depress of the dose knob should give you a full dose.

For some people the hard twist methods seems to still work. I did it for several pens, then it stopped working for the next 3-4 pens (everything would appear ok, but the dose knob would not fully depress), so I switched to syringes as I found them more reliable.

If you are continuing with Mounjaro it is prudent to have some syringes available as a back up incase your pen develops a fault. Eli Lilly often don't replace pens and it is just easier to take with syringes than send the pen back for inspection, wait a month for an answer and potentially not get a replacement.

You can get luer lock syringes with separate 4mm or 6mm needles if it is the needle length that was a problem before.

I'll have a google for those syringes. It was the needle length that I struggled with. Thanks everyone for the comments. Really appreciate you all.
