hello losers, new thread here!

back from holidays, have definitely added a bit of padding, even though I did work out and we walked a lot. But also definitely ate more than at home. And yes cold weather does make me crave heavier food.
But a few pounds - we can tackle those just fine, right?

Hi everyone. Checking in from South Korea. We’ve had v mixed weather and had to completely change our plans for this week due to the island we were going to being under the tail edge of a typhoon with 17cm of rain due today!! Saying that it’s been great, loads of walking but far too much food, I can feel the pounds! Not worrying in the slightest, that’s for when we get back next weekend! My case has also gained some kg- skincare here is great and cheap!!
cyprus sounds great @HeidiLite. Sorry to hear about your hip replacement @Zempy, like others I know a few people who have had them and recovered fairly quickly so 🤞🏻.
Sorry to hear of your loss @hunkydory54, hope you’re doing ok.

Hello hello

Have been trying to keep up with everyone’s news. Sounds like some fab holidays have been had and tasty meals enjoyed. To be honest, with all the doom and gloom in the news I think we ought to enjoy these moments of joy and discovery while we can.

We had a lovely spa break last weekend, plus a really delicious tasting menu. Probably one of the best I’ve had in a really long time. It felt good to appreciate it.

Very sorry for your loss @hunkydory54 sounds like there’s a lot going on in your life, do take it easy on yourself.

I am going to receive a VR offer in the next couple of weeks and I’m feeling quite conflicted by it. On the one hand I’m very tempted to take it (if it’s a good offer) and see what life is like on the outside, I had a positive conversation with a recruiter who thinks the market is picking up and floated a role that pays more than I’m on now (it’s a level up). But none of the headlines reflect this. I’m considered a top performer in my current role and so there’s a chance they’ll keep me on if I decline the VR, perhaps have me manage twice as many people for same money. It’ll be miserable for a bit, but I am the main breadwinner and at least I’ll have a job.
Last weekend I sorted out my LinkedIn so now I just need to update my CV.

In MJ news I’ve gone up to 3mg today - my 95th dose. Staying steady this month under 62kg. But it’s still roughly 2kg heavier than I’d like to be. Funny how there’s a few of us in this situation. I wonder if the average body adjusts after two years on it.

Oh hello

firstly @hunkydory54 sorry for your loss.

lovely to see some holiday action. I am impressed with how much you lot get away.

@DGmaintaining that’s a hard decision to make. I know of really quite a lot of people going through redundancy so there is a bit of a glut in the market for what I do and my clients do. What’s your industry doing? Alternatively I suspect in due course we’ll be hit pretty hard AI wise so is it better to take the cash and look at a next step - especially if you have a recruiter who has a potential role, you have a good rep etc. I am the breadwinner too and it’s not easy is it?

so my thyroid drugs seem to be doing well and my blood tests last week show loads of improvement. I have been very active for me and even managed a little run today so that’s good. My weight has been stable (it went down a little bit last week in fact) so I don’t have a burning need at the moment to go back into mj but also I have 3 pens in the fridge, I think it’s good for my family history of type 2 diabetes and like @Jins I think could help my inflammation. So still not sure what to do.

@DGmaintaining there are some theories that it takes around 2 years for body to get used to new weight set point. So I have decided to believe that we're almost there, it's just the last ditch effort from out fat cells to get back to where they used to be. And once we are over this last hill, they will calm down and we will effortlessly maintain our new bodies forever after. Makes sense to me 😀

@myladyjane glad to hear the drugs are working. they will be regularly monitoring you I hope?

Ouch weighed in at 62.5 kilos this morning, heaviest I've been for ages. Back to food tracking for a while.

@HeidiLite love the 2 year set point idea- I need to embrace this. Just jabbed and weighed. I am about 10lbs up from my target weight.
i would be content about 4lbs down from where I am now.
it’s not rocket science for me . . . I have started to indulge my sweet tooth. I just need to stop that and also up my exercise.
i am jabbing every 10days- i went up to 5mg today from 4 to try to get down to top end of target weight before my holiday in a couple of weeks.
@myladyjane it’s very reassuring to have pens in the fridge. I’m on my last one so not sure what I am going to do after that. It’s lovely to see you are staying off it even with the option.
@DGmaintaining hope your VR is a really good amount so you are making a decision from a position of strength.
I too am the breadwinner ( lone parent) and it’s a lot of pressure
Happy Monday everyone xxx

HeidiLite · Today 08:46

happy Monday! Taking a quick break from digging through my mailbox - I work for a weird company for a change where you are actually not expected to check your mails during the holiday. Still feels weird, as my previous had a very American culture and if you didn't respond immediately to an email received during holidays 7AM on a Sunday, they would call and ask why I'm slacking off.

While I have a DH who also works full time, I've always earned at least double his salary. Being a breadwinner is stressful and differing from men in my position, I don't expect to get home and do nothing, because working you see. An average woman really is an exceptional man - can you imagine, I am the breadwinner and still cook dinner, amazing!
(although this week DC are still off so I do expect dinner on the table! They do need quite a bit of guidance still, but results are often not bad at all)

Jins · Today 08:54

Well I’m not doing too badly weight wise tbh as I’m fairly static around 8st 5, the only blips being a sudden gain after reducing my dose and an unexplained drop of 2lbs before I went on holiday. I am definitely eating more junk than I did at the start but I’m stopping sooner than I would without the MJ. I did 7.5mg this week to get the anti inflammatory effects back where they should be and then it’s back to my standard 6.25mg. Presumably forever 🤣

@DGmaintainingi completely understand the conflict. I didn’t take VR once and regretted it almost immediately as like you say you end up with more work and pressure for the same money. I grabbed the next offer but it was half the first one. I hope you get some time to decide and can explore alternatives thoroughly. I’ve never been the main breadwinner, occasionally I was the bigger earner but we seemed to switch that role around. It does put additional pressure on you. My mantra has always been ‘what would a man do in this situation?’ as in my experience they’ve been a lot more willing to take a chance than a woman.

@myladyjaneso glad to hear things are improving with the treatment. If you’ve got 3 pens in the fridge it would be a crime to let them expire surely? 🤣. I’d be doing low doses until they ran out.

We had DS1 round for a birthday dinner last night which was fun. Can’t believe he’s now 32. Then DH put a downer on the evening by getting something in his eye which was clearly very painful so I ended up driving him to his surgery and doing a very good ophthalmologist impression with the stuff that turns everything yellow. I bloody hate anything to do with eyes but couldn’t face hours in a&e. Vast improvement this morning thank goodness as we’ve planned a trip to Liverpool this evening to see the lights installation.

myladyjane · Today 12:35

@HeidiLite ain’t that the truth! My dh is pretty good on a lot but he is oblivious to the mental load. I was doing some financial planning yesterday and wanted to run some stuff past him. He was very much ‘oh you do that, I don’t understand it’ like some 50s American sitcom wife trope. I on the other hand apparently came out of the womb clutching my isa thresholds….

I am a bit of a believer in 2 year set point. I have 2 weights over adulthood and go between the two until now when I am 7lb under. I seem to settle at one or other

HeidiLite · Today 12:46

mental load is exhausting. My entire family uses my brain instead of their own. Where is x, when is y, why is z..And the trouble is that as soon as I know, it takes up space in my head and I will need to use precious energy for checking if they have actually remembered what they need to do, where they need to go and what stuff they need.
