hello losers, new thread here!

HeidiLite · 07/10/2026 08:31

@Zempy totally get it, people usually don't leave their jobs, they leave their managers. I had a micromanager for a few years and it's horrible, I couldn't even tell you what my name was, had to check with her in case she had a different opinion.

OP posts:
user7172 · 07/10/2026 09:17

That was exactly my experience earlier this year, micromanager, narcissist and downright bully. I haven’t regretted it for a second. Fingers crossed for the scales @Zempy.
good luck @BreezyPeeryou can do this! I’ve had a few good days and a few not so good. Don’t know what’s going on but pens def don’t seem to be as magic as they used to be! One last push before we go away although I’m out tonight, Friday and Saturday nights, I’ll be sensible! Even if I can maintain 10 11 until I go away and drop the final 4 when I get back that works.
I’ve got an interview for an interim role today in London and it’s the wettest day we’ve had for months, typical!!

BreezyPeer · 08/10/2026 07:02

@HeidiLite @user7172 I’ve also recently moved to a new job- mostly because of my previous manager. I’m happier now although it’s early days. When work is hard your whole life is hard xxx

HeidiLite · 08/10/2026 07:56

we have a micromanager on my level in charge of another team of the department. So my manager in his infitine wisdom decided that he will take my best, very senior report and put her in the other team, to 'shake things up'. Framed as development opportunity but no promotion. It took us 2 good weeks of gentle massaging to get the boss to understand that you cannot change a manager like that, just because you give them a person who needs level 4 management when manager's style is to give level 1 to everybody. You can only make the report's life miserable.

Yep, totally agree!!

So pleased your new role is going well @BreezyPeer, agree, work has a huge impact on your life. I went out with a few of my old team last night and they were saying how awful it is, how everyone is leaving and how they’re all looking but need new roles to be able to leave. So sad…

my interview was really positive, loved the guy I’d be working for, he was amazing! Wants me to meet the CFO and someone who’d be working in my team to get the full low down hopefully tomorrow or Monday as he doesn’t want me to go for the other interviews I have lined up 🤣so I’m really hoping this is it! It’s been a schlep this year job wise!

Not been weighed but was really good yesterday despite temptation so 🤞🏻.

Hope you have fabulous Thursdays all!

Jins · 08/10/2026 08:28

Thursday already! Great news @user7172on the interview. It seems like between us we’ve had the worst possible managers over our careers and it’s really depressing that in a time of improved access to management training and tools nothing has changed. I often worry that DS1 is one of those managers that we all complain about but his reviews have (so far) been very positive from his team. He seems to be able to hide his inner tyrant outside the family 🤣

I’m in disgrace with DS2 because we were vaguely thinking about going to the zoo on 2nd Nov and now I’ve booked tickets for something else that day. I’ve had to remind him that he’s going to be 29 and grumbling about not having a birthday trip to the zoo is not age appropriate. 🤣

Starting to emerge from the virus but still feel rather weak and wobbly. I had so much that I wanted to achieve this week and all I’ve managed is a minor wardrobe sort and putting the cases away until next year. I’ve got a few bits for Vinted and I think I’m going to list them for a couple of quid just to get shut.

HeidiLite · 08/10/2026 09:07

@Jins my DH has me saved in his phone as Commander in Chief but as a manager at work I'm an utter delight 😂Your DS1 may be similar.

OP posts:
Jins · 08/10/2026 09:22

@HeidiLitethat is very reassuring. I have limited experience of managing a team, only two people and for about 18 months when I decided to jump ship for a more solitary role with another consultancy. I like to think that I was a delight but who knows? Acquaintances have always liked DH but are somewhat wary of me as I can be a bit uncompromising. Hopefully my team didn’t see it as a flaw 🤣

myladyjane · 08/10/2026 09:44

Oh @Jins totally team ds2 sorry (i also may be going to the zoo for my 52nd birthday soon)

Jins · 08/10/2026 09:49

@myladyjane I do feel a twinge of mum guilt but his actual birthday is on 31st and he has two weeks off work following that so we can actually still go. Just not on the 2nd as I’m going to see the ghosts movie as my birthday treat 🤣

user7172 · 08/10/2026 09:50

Omg hilarious about your DH phone entry @HeidiLite🤣🤣. My DH and ds tell me I’m a control freak and v bossy but people in my teams tell me differently, hoping they’re not lying 🤣
poor you @Jinsglad you are over the worst of it. I had suspected Covid the other week, it floored me for 10 days so make sure you look after yourself.Glad you can get to the zoo for ds, if not in the actual specific day he wanted 🤣

HeidiLite · 08/10/2026 10:52

well I have to be bossy at home otherwise no other bugger would do anything! My team at work takes more initiative 😀

cloudjumper · 08/10/2026 11:05

Having a manager/boss you gel with is so important! I definitely don't with my current one (but that might have to do with the fact that all she ever tells me is that I'm not doing enough/the right things).
I still don't feel as good or relieved as I thought I would after the resignation, I'm still in fight-and-flight mode, struggling to relax :-( Not even making this up (impostor syndrome speaking here) - I went to the GP on Tuesday, she took one look at me and signed me off for 3 weeks with burnout! I feel vindicated, but it's come at a price.
I hope that by the time I'm supposedly going back to work, they will have arranged the garden leave (heard nothing about that yet). I'm getting lovely messages from the other team members, so at least not everyone thinks I'm a failure!

At least my weight is remaining stable, despite the increased biscuit intake 😬

DGmaintaining · 10/10/2026 09:35

Thanks for the new thread @HeidiLite

I had written a post a few days ago but didn’t hit send and now it’s out of date. Well done to all those taking work matters into their own hands. Horrible bosses are the worst.

We had a Townhall the other day where the new business leader hinted heavily at redundancies. I’m currently doing a job that two people used to do so I ‘think’ I’m safe. I’ve looked around and seen so many seemingly integral people with experience got rid of. These decisions aren’t always made with long term objectives in mind.

Weight settling in the 61kg area, but I think I need to stay on the 2.5mg dose for a while. This dose makes me thirsty, constantly need a wee (TMI have started wearing a pad to catch the small leaks when I’m trying to leave a meeting to get to the loo) low level anxiety is still there but any ‘happiness’ is capped. However, weight gain is also anxiety inducing. As mentioned before I think peri is partly responsible some of this too. I saw an IG post about estrogen pessary supplements to help strengthen pelvic floor muscles. Does anyone else do this? I can’t see myself working up the momentum to book a gp appointment for this.

myladyjane · 10/10/2026 16:37

@DGmaintaining I have some vaginal oestrogen cream and I’ve used the pessaries before. Not sure if it helped tbh and since I’d started hrt, downstairs has perked right up.

are you on hrt? I have an open prescription to refill if needs be so I would say chat with gp and give it a go. TMI but it’s a bit messy so dress appropriately

HeidiLite · 10/10/2026 17:03

yes sometimes redundancy decisions just make no sense. One guy who we have, tons of very specific knowledge - his entire team is moving and he doesn't want to relocate to another country, as he has just a few years left before retirement. But we need him. Nobody else knows diddly squat about what he does. Could we make an exception for him to stay where he is? Absolutely. Are we? Nope. Decisionmakers are too far from the business and of course won't be directly affected, we are supposed to figure it out somehow..

OP posts:
Polkadotdash · 10/10/2026 23:16

@DGmaintaining i was put on the HRT pessaries (and it turns out they are just tiny little tablets not like massive washing liquid pods like I was imagining) earlier this year to try to provide some support to my ailing parts post hysterectomy. I have no idea if they are working or not. I don’t know what the measure of success is though. Avoiding total collapse maybe? My GP did utter the words ‘preventing anal incontinence’ to me and I absolutely freaked out. Turns out she did NOT need to say that to me. I don’t know if she was trying to scare me into agreeing to the pessaries. All I know is that it’s absolutely shite being a woman! The indignity is never ending.

Polkadotdash · 10/10/2026 23:20

Plus the pelvic floor therapist I’m seeing at the hospital is the one who keeps mentioning to me about losing weight. I’m like ‘yeah. Bring it on. I’ve spent the best part of £2500 on WLI and I’m still two stone overweight. Now what?’ Seems the answer ladies is ‘eat less and move more’. If only we had known, eh??

HeidiLite · 11/10/2026 07:46

@Polkadotdash no way, so they are saying eat less and move more? Revolutionary!

OP posts:
Zempy · 11/10/2026 08:41

Weighed in this morning and I have lost a pound which I am pleased with.

Ten mg does seem like a high dose to be on at this stage though but 🤷‍♀️

Off for pub Sunday roast later which is my favourite food!!

Stillnotenoughsleep · 11/10/2026 23:45

Hi all, checking in and happy to get my user “ back on the new thread (I’ve been posting as wtafmakeitstop).
So here I am, still bumping along at 60kg, still wanting to be 2-3 lighter but too stressed/busy to make it happen. I’ll try to be a bit chattier on this new thread (thank you @HeidiLite)

HeidiLite · 12/10/2026 05:36

same same, @Stillnotenoughsleep , I hover between 58-60. probably more after this weekend, as went to a restaurant and then also had a dinner party, so way more food I would normally consume, plus drinks. I think I will go back to tracking for a week - leaving for holidays on Saturday and don't want to worry about summer clothes being too tight.

Den building will start shortly so have been clearing out the basement. Why do I have so much stuff?? There's stuff everywhere.

BreezyPeer · 12/10/2026 06:49

Morning everyone 🌅
Got a funeral to go to today- not looking forward to it and got meetings before and after
Then, by a quirk of fate going to a comedy show this evening

Hope everyone has a good day xxx

user7172 · 12/10/2026 07:39

Happy Monday all.
Well done on the pound Zempy!
sprry to hear about work and meno symptoms @DGmaintaining. Hope work ok and I’d def speak to your GP. I’ve been on patches and had the mirena coil fitted during a gynae op in the summer but I’m just doing a form for my GP to ask for an HRT review as the patches are bringing me out in horrible boils and I’ve started getting really hot under my armpits and waking up at night. My periods stopped over 10 years ago ( early meno) so it really is the bloody gift that keeps on giving.

Interesting that so many of us are struggling weight wise isn’t it. I’m ok for 4ish days then not. I’m
managing to stay around 10 12 but want to get back to 10 7. We’re also going away on Friday so jabbed yesterday, will be right on it and then we’re off to South Korea so imagining a lot of walking like Japan and hopefully maintain. I’ve also had a stressful few months with toxic boss, leaving, thinking I’m starting my dream contract and it not happening and now battling for the money they do owe me 😳. I had 2 interviews for a role last week, they’re fast tracking it so I’m meeting 3 more of the Exec tomorrow and 2 Board members on Wed. No one else in the process at the moment and I’m petrified- imposter syndrome
well and truly kicking in. It would be an amazing opportunity and a big promotion.
@BreezyPeerso sorry to hear about the funeral. Hope it goes as well as these things can 💐

ETA that was an essay!!

HeidiLite · 12/10/2026 10:08

@user7172 you've got it! All those people believe you will be good for the role, no need for you to start convincing them otherwise 😁
I do wish talented women had the conficence of a mediocre man though. I'm recruting at the moment and I swear the CVs I get from women meet 110% of the requirements. Half the CVs I get from men, lucky if they meet 30%..
