Stopping Mounjaro after more than 2 years and no weight loss for 14 months

I’m wondering if there are any like me out there for whom Mounjaro stopped working? I lost 3 stone the first year, up to 15mg by then but then it just stopped having an effect. I’d been used to a distinct reduction in appetite, A reduction in the amount I needed to eat in order to feel full and a change in the sort of foods that I wanted to eat. It was great!

After 4 months of no weight loss (plus the price hike) I switched to Wegovy but gained half a stone over 4-5 months so went back to MJ 5mg and worked back to 15. Didn’t lose any more but didn’t gain any.

Here I am now, I’ve been wavering for months about the cost and that it doesn’t have the desired impact. I’ve wrestled with the question of continuing paying £300 or thereabouts each month just to maintain.

Ive decided to stop taking it. I’ve definitely changed habits, eating and exercise so It will be interesting to see how much will power will be needed to at least stay where I am. I’m holding at a BMI of 29.5 so still had a way to go and the changes I had managed have just helped me maintain my weight.

Anybody else in the same position? How’ve you found it?

Not in the same position, but if I were you I would titrate down and see how it goes. The exercise and eating habits might keep the weight off, but if you do it gradually you'll see how much work the MJ is doing (or not). It would be deeply disheartening to gain all the weight back again. I've been on MJ for 15 months, lost the weight i wanted to in the first 6 months, have been maintaining since, but gradually titrating the dose down. Good luck!

I do think the body finds an equilibrium. I went back on when I just tipped into overweight again but only lost 2 or 3 kilos. I was only just obese when I started. I was never willowy and I think my body just wants to be sturdily settled around the overweight mark.

Thanks, that’s a really good point. I have toyed with titrating down, but I think I’ve left it too long since I last ordered.

After 18months on Mounjaro, I lost 3 stone in around 7 months, since then I have hovered around the same weight, in the summer I titrated down to 2.5mg and no real difference maybe +/- 1kg weekly, so I have paused the treatment for the moment.

Last jab was 2 weeks ago and I'm still at same weight and no cravings.

I haven't seen a change for some time and with the cost at £300 every 4 weeks it's not justifiable. A friend has been on Mounjaro 6 months longer and has lost 5 stone and no more, his provider is dropping dose for a few months and then upping again to see if that works but no change.

I used MJ for around 18 months got up to 7.5mg lost 3st 11lb. Stopped as I didnt like the side effects; mostly having zero interest in eating anything at all.

i put 1st 7lb back on and restarted MJ after 3 months; I continued to put weight on despite increasing dose and got to 1st 11lb back on; it’s taken 5 months on regular dosing to finally get back to losing.

im currently taking 5mg and back to 11st so need to lose another 1st to be back at goal weight. I’ve found 5mg is the highest I can go before I run into extreme side-effects; diarrhoea, sulphur burps etc.

i don’t like MJ it makes me feel unwell, nauseated a little down and lacking motivation so I’m keen to stop but I know the weight will creep back on.

Ive been following the foundayo threads and think I’ll speak with my provider about switching once I’m almost back at goal weight.

I got down to 11st 4lbs on Mounjaro last year which is just into BMI 24s for me. I'd have like to lose a bit more but like you, OP, I'd been on 15mg and didn't lose anything for a few months. I titrated down and stopped. Maintained at slightly over my lowest weight for a few months then started to put a bit back on and felt I was heading to insulin resistance again - about 12 stone seems to be the tipping point.

Went back on a low dose, am on 5mg now and have got back down to 11st 7lbs. I have to really stick to calories carefully to lose weight, and not mess it up at the weekend - it's about 1400/day and highish protein, good fibre, lowish carbs, for me to lose even slowly.

So maybe titrate down, try to maintain for a bit, then start again on a lower dose and try to lose some more?

I've been using ChatGPT to log calories without driving myself insane weighing everything. It only takes me a few minutes a day.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I’ve just ordered 12.5 and 10 for the following month and see how that goes titrating down

I’m glad I posted. I truly am not ready to stop in case it’s being effective somewhere in the background. In one respect this is the longest I’ve been a size 16 for decades and in itself that’s an outcome worth having.
