Do you feel guilty leaving food on your plate?

When I first started MJ, I had huge appetite suppression and ate tiny portions, often choosing to add a few veg and a tiny bit of meat to my plate.

However, after a year and almost 5st down, trying to stay on a low-ish dose, I am eating slightly more normal sized meals but still less than prior to MJ. However, I’ve started to feel slightly guilty if I leave any food on my plate.

I remember as a kid being made to eat everything and being chastised if I left food but then my parents fought in WW2 and were very familiar with living with severe rationing, so they viewed food in a different way and were both extremely slim all their lives. In fact, I think they wanted us kids to be chubby as a sign of affluence?

Does anyone else struggle with adding too much food to their plate and feeling guilty if you don’t finish it all? Aaargh!

Never feel guilty.

As adults, we need to move on from what we were taught by our parents and what we now know to be true. “You were told to clear your plate as a child” isn’t a lifelong contract. If you’re full, you can leave it. Nobody is going to call the food police. 😂

If I’m out I tend to rearrange food so it looks like more has been eaten but I also take any proteins for the dog and at home he finishes any leftovers

I get that too but i tell myself it is just as wasted whether it goes in the bin, or hangs around as excess fat on my thighs.

no, I only serve myself or order what I know I will eat and I force myself to leave a very small amount and not finish it. I’m done with rhe whole clear your plate thing I grew up with.

Funnily enough l met a friend for coffee today and we are both on my and were talking abiut this. I am really trying hard to retrain my brain that it is ok to stop when l am full up. I was brought up to eat everything on my plate but have broken the cycle and don't do this with my daughter. Pretty sure that mindset contributed to my obesity as l got comfortable with feeling uncomfortably full up.
