Mounjaro post gallbladder removal

I was on Mounjaro up until June this year and then stopped as had to have my gallbladder removed due to gallstones. Surgeon has written me a letter clearing me to start Mounjaro again as he did a full check of pancreas and liver whilst operating but my current prescriber won't prescribe for 12 months post-surgery.

Has anyone here been prescribed by anyone after a recent gallbladder removal? Or do I have to wait for a year? Not the end of the world if I do but I'm just interested if there are any options out there for me!

Thanks!

I declared my pancreatitis and gall bladder removal (connected years ago) to Asda online dr and got through once I ticked box to say I understood risks.

I have been told not to take it if no gallbladder and I had mine removed 6 years ago

Why is that?

I’m not on mountjaro but wegovy. I had my gallbladder removed 6 years ago.

Rapid weight loss can cause gallstones, which is the reason for the caution.

However if you don’t have a gallbladder and it was removed some time ago, this obviously isn’t a risk so I don’t understand how @hellotomrwwas refused because of it. I get mine through Boots, obviously a reliable source, and got it ok and they were aware of it. I’d say it’s more of a risk if you do have a gallbladder!

I had mine removed May 2024 and was approved for mounjaro in February 2025 and I took it for well over a year with no issues. Both Medexpress and Oushk were happy to prescribe it to me. I’d have look at other prescribers .

Who by?

I had my gall bladder removed a decade ago and move provider every month. Nobody so far has been concerned.

I had my gallbladder removed about 5 years ago and was prescribed mounjaro. It hasn't caused me any issues at all, I've had very minimal side effects. There are some increased risks but Boots will prescribe if you confirm you understand them and wish to proceed.

Thanks everyone - will try some of the providers mentioned. Boots seem a good option for a first stop!

(It was MedExpress that is refusing to prescribe for a year after my operation btw.)

I had my gallbladder removed 15 years ago and oushk have been prescribing Mounjaro for over a year for me.
I can't see how there can be more risks as at least you can't get gallstones

I had mine removed 6 months before starting Mounjaro. Most providers are fine with it. My surgeon ok’d it at my checkup post op and said he saw no issues with it.
