How many clicks of pen to get a half dose on MJ?

I am currently on 5mg of Mounjaro but to save money I bought a 10mg pen. I see that many people are buying stronger doses and using half doses to save money. How many clicks do I need to do to get a half dose?

A full dose of any MJ pen is 60 clicks so a half dose is 30 clicks.

So are you saying each dose is 60 clicks not the whole pen?

Is this your first pen? It’s not the whole pen per injection. It’s an injection a week from a monthly pen.

If you’re currently taking 5mg of MJ, presumably you’ve already used up a 2.5mg pen?

Did you get at least 4 full doses from that pen or just one dose?

60 clicks is a dose. Each pen holds 4 doeses.

Ok great thanks for confirming. I have been on it a while, currently on 10mg but would like to go down and also save money so thought I'd try the half doses I read others are doing.

Are you already maintaining? If so, maybe consider going down gradually rather than a sudden drop to 5mg?

Whenever I increase my dose, I only go up by either 0.5mg or 1 mg so after a year, I’m still only on 4mg and I’d like to lose another half a stone before maintaining so might go up to 5mg. Once at goal, I plan to titrate down in the same way dropping only half a mg each time I reduce my dose.

I wouldn’t rely on click counting to split a 10mg pen into a 5mg dose, as the pen isn’t necessarily designed to be used that way. It’s worth checking with your prescriber or pharmacist about the safest way to manage the cost

Have done this with my last three pens , admittedly 5mg rather than 10mg but have had no issues at all .
I keep the pen in the fridge.

What makes you say that? Have you tried counting clicks yourself and had problems keeping count?

Click counting is 100% reliable in my experience and I’ve been doing it for a long time now. If you’re sticking to the same dose for the whole pen, use a Sharpie to mark the precise spot and then you don’t have to count the clicks the next time you use it.

It depends on how you feel about risk?

A lot of pharmacies now openly support users in maintenance mode to titrate down and take half doses as they only require them to re-order a pen every 8 weeks.

Some posters on here buy the bigger dose pens (10, 12.5, 15mg) and use click counting to take say a quarter dose each time. Personally, I’m happy to click count using a 5mg pen and haven’t had an opened pen beyond 9 weeks when utilising the golden dose. Where I buy from, the increase costs of a larger pen doesn’t really save much, so I’m not bothered about stretching it beyond 9 weeks.

Obviously, you have to be scrupulously clean before injecting and wipe the red tip of the pen with a wipe before and after each use etc.
