When should I start Wegovy?

I am going on holiday mid October. I would like to start asap, but am worried about wrecking my holiday with side effects.

If I wait until after, I have my birthday mid December and a weekend away, then Christmas.

Should I just go for it now?

I was in a similar position over the summer. Obviously every body reacts differently but for me, I hardly had any symptoms (and tbh no particularly noticeable reduction in appetite) during the first 4 weeks on the lowest dose, and only quite moderate effects on the next dose up. My holidays were therefore pretty much unaffected. The one thing I did do was time it so that I didn't have to take the pen with me, which was fine as I was never away for more than a week, and it's ok to not stick rigidly to doing it exactly every 7 days (best not to be fewer than 6 or more than 8 if you can help it).

There's never going to be a perfect time, so my advice is to fo for it asap. Christmas is going to be complicated whatever happens, but part of this process is supposed to be helping us to break our emotional connection with over-eating and I think it will be best to tackle Christmas, and working out how to feel celebratory without stuffing an entire cheeseboard, after having been on the programme for a while rather than only just starting.

I’d just start now. There will always be some celebration or holiday or other situation. I’ve been on Mounjaro for over 2 years, you just adjust and get on with life. Only a lot lighter than before.

Well said @KindlySurfiingPlatypus

I am learning to manage celebrations and feast times while losing weight and it's great. I'm enjoying food while not stuffing my face and am hoping to continue this forever. Start now and practise your new way of eating.

Thanks. I am not so much worried about not being able to overeat. That feels like a great thing. I just don't want to be feeling really sick and ruin something lovely.

If it’s not until October I’d start now but stay in a low dose. It might stop you gaining weight in your holiday but you’ll still be able to eat

I've not had any experiences of feeling really sick. I've occasionally felt very mildly nauseous but no more than about level 2 on a scale where 0 is totally fine and 10 is actually vomitting, and only for fairly brief durations. You can't know how your body will react, but you may be fine anyway. If you start soon, you'll know within a few weeks whether you get unfortunate side effects and if you do you can plan to give yourself a break from the meds over your holiday, and if you don't you'll be able to stop being anxious about something that may not be necessary to worry about at all.

There will always be some sort of night out or celebration coming up..

Start now and if big if , you do get side effects you can stop.
