Hello

is there a way to get half a dose from the single use pens?

I’ve increased from the 2.4 and think it’s too much for me 🫣

Ask AI to let you know how many clicks you need to say have 4.

workingcocker · 29/08/2026 13:50

Gah, just tried it and you can’t apparently. I got a 7.2mg dose but got the 3 pens. Now I see on MedExpress it’s the 7.2mg single dose pen which I don’t want as it’s too much.

Did you get it from MedExpress?

WeAllHaveWings · 29/08/2026 15:21

There are options on Youtube but I don't think look particularly safe or sterile! I wouldn't.

Basically they are injecting the full pen into a vial or syringe then partial dosing from there.

She Med, I didn’t understand that it wasn’t a ‘clicky’ pen. I’m going on holiday this week and so don’t want to risk side effects with such a dose increase so now not sure what to do. Will likely just skip this week and then take a chance with a full dose when I’m home.

Can you not just use a syringe and extract half? It should say on the pen the total volume so just measure it and keep remaining in pen. Then next time use the rest up using another syringe. Or do it in thirds if you want to stick to 2.4mg. I use a syringe for mj remaining fluid and get 8mm syringes from shd medical.

workingcocker · 30/08/2026 11:28

Yes, I suppose just like using a syringe for he golden dose you can take it from the pen if you know the measurement dose. I would be careful as you can break the pen.

It was my understanding that the single use 7.2mg Wegovy pen has an inbuilt needle that can't be removed which means you can't access the medication with a syringe.

You are right, I’ve just looked and the needle is already in the pen and so I think I’ll just have to brave a full dose 🤔

Oh wow I didn't know that..they've really shut down click counting!

JamesGetIn · 30/08/2026 17:08

So how does the new pen work? Is it still 4 x weekly injections?

Won’t the pen still need to be clicked up to deliver a 1/4 of the entire pen each week? I can’t figure how the needle can’t be removed.

Favouritefruits · 30/08/2026 17:16

You can’t take part of the dose the new pens automatically give the full dose and if you take the pen out half way it just shoots the remaining amount out! ( I know from experience) there’s no safe way of splitting the orbs!

SilenceInside · 30/08/2026 17:28

@JamesGetIn it’s a single dose pen. So you only use the pen once, and then it’s empty and you discard it. The pharmacies supply you with 4 x 7.2mg pens for a month, you use one a week.

Mysticmaiden · 30/08/2026 17:34

It's a lot of plastic waste with a single dose pen but I can't imagine they care about that! Wegovy multi pens can be recycled through an online return scheme that they provide the packaging and postage for so I wonder if the single dose can also be recycled with the needle.
It's a shame Lilly don't offer the same scheme, I'm upto 22 pens in almost 2 years.

JamesGetIn · 30/08/2026 17:45

Ah I see, thanks. Didn’t realise it was 4 pens. Yeah that is a lot of waste. I have a supply of 2.4s built up from the last few months of having been given 3 x 2.4 and only needing 4.8 (to maintain). I think I’ll give the 7.2 pens a go and have my supply to fall back on. I definitely don’t want to have to pay £400 per month for 2 x 2.4s.

If you need to go that high have you considered mounjaro? It's a much better drug and you'll probably be needing 10mg for equivalent so it may save you some money.

JamesGetIn · 30/08/2026 18:00

I’ll look into it now. Thanks.
