Mounjaro while on Prednisolone

Has anyone ever taken Mounjaro while on Prednisolone?
And did you find it still worked effectively?
From everything I read the Prednisolone can reduce/stop Mounjaro being effective.

I have always struggled with my weight/emotional eating but generally keep my BMI in the healthy zone by being extremely strict/miserable, the food noise is constant.

I am now taking Prednisolone at a moderate - high dose for the long term & am fighting for my life everyday against the rapid increase in hunger/binging 😂

I am up 9/10lbs on where Id like to be but my BMI is 23 so still within healthy range.

Would I even be able to get a prescription at this point if Ive never taken it previously?
I have hypertension which is medicated if that
makes a difference.

Or do I just have to wait until my BMI is 27 & then for the Mounjaro to potentially not work anyway.

Thanks in advance!

I think you might be better speaking with your consultant directly about weight concerns. It will be in their interest to keep you at a healthy weight also so they may be able to refer you for various treatments or assistance. Will your prednisolone dose stay as high as it is now or will it reduce? You may find you get used to the food cravings and they minimise on their own?

Your steroids increase your blood sugars while the WLI decrease. So it may not be as effective. And tbh if you’re in long term steroids of a high dose I am assuming the health condition you have is fairly serious.

It would be worth talking to your specialist Dr about your weight concerns and see if they can prescribe something like metformin or suggest a way to avoid weight gain safely whilst still allowing your steroids to do their job effectively.

Steroid dose will stay as is for at least 6 months & then depending on the response (hopefully!!) taper down.

When I have mentioned my concerns to consultant/GP previously they nod along in agreement/sympathetically but no suggestions at present other than try to ignore the cravings/increased hunger (never mind all the other lovely side effects that come along with steroids!) and hopefully the weight will come
off again at some point after stopping.

Unfortunately my health condition has the potentially to be very serious & put me on the organ transplant list so although its ‘my choice’ to take the steroids if I want to prevent further damage/disease progression it isn’t really a choice & needs to be done, but I can still be bitter about it!

I had read about the blood sugar link and was wondering if the mounjaro would at the very least ‘cancel out’ the increase from the pred.

The condition I have is inflammatory, so I also did wonder if the Mounjaro would help from a general anti-inflammatory point of view.

Hmmm can you ask an endocrinologist? I would also want to be very sure the WLI wouldn’t risk your kidneys or pancreas at all if you’re already at risk of organ damage.
Its a tough situation but at BMI 23 I feel you have strong alternatives at this point over WLI even if something like hypnosis or even strict food diary usage that won’t risk further damage or health related issues.
