Pills after jabs - August 2026 starters

I started Mounjaro in summer 2024, when I weighed 17 and a half stone. In just under 18 months I lost 7 stone, bringing me down to the lowest weight of my adult life.

I managed to maintain without jabs for a little while, but soon a stressful patch of time got the better of me, the good habits disappeared and the weight crept back on.

I got up to 13 stone and decided I needed to put the brakes on the weight gain, so reluctantly went back to Mounjaro in spring of this year. Second time round I found the weight loss to be much more difficult, as if my body had built up a tolerance and no longer felt strong effects from low doses the way it had first time. It took me 3 pens to lose one stone, and it went straight back on within a few weeks of stopping the jabs.

I want to shift a bit of weight, and I want to prevent the gradual creep of weight gain so that I don’t end back where I originally started, but I’m fed up of jabs. I’m fed up of injecting, of thinking about cold storage, shelf life and sharps bins. Keen for an alternative, I’ve now switched to Wegovy pills.

I’m 10 days in now, and so far I have noticed absolutely nothing. No change in appetite, no change in weight, no side effects. Nothing at all.

After what happened with my second attempt at Mounjaro I suspect that there is some form of tolerance that builds up, and I’ll likely need a stronger dose to feel any impact. So I will keep going for now, but it is disappointing to spend all this money for no results.

I’d love to hear from anyone else who’s started Wegovy pills recently, particularly if you’ve used the jabs previously. How are you getting on?

Hi, I am on MJ thinking of swapping to pill for maintenance, when I run out. I started a thread about this to understand others expereinces. Didnt see your thread sorry! What dose tablets are you on? Its so hard to know what to do isnt it? Have you spoken to your provided for advice?

Hi @TheBrickCritic

I’m just on the very lowest starting dose of the Wegovy pills. I didn’t actually realise until reading a few threads here that starting on a higher dose was an option, and I’d already ordered by then.

I’m with Zava, didn’t discuss it with them at all, I just ordered online and they were quite happy to send it. No new consultation as it is the same provider I used for all my MJ jabs. They’ve sent a few information emails but nothing personal. I don’t mind that really, there’s options to get in touch with them if I need to.

I think my plan is to give the pills a go for a few months, I suspect I need a higher dose after the Mounjaro, but I’ll just increase the strength each time I order until I find one that has some noticeable suppression.

I’m not chasing massive losses now. When I lost a lot, first time round, it was quick but I did really suffer with side effects. I persevered because I was desperate for a big change. But I don’t want to have to do anything that dramatic again, just something easy, stable and long term.

I still hope that I won’t need to be buying weight loss medication forever, but I think I stopped a bit too abruptly before, and at totally the wrong point in time. Hopefully pills will be easier to gradually drop down doses & frequency when the time comes.

What dose of MJ are you on at the moment? Are you still loosing, or trying to maintain?
