Pills after jabs - August 2026 starters

I started Mounjaro in summer 2024, when I weighed 17 and a half stone. In just under 18 months I lost 7 stone, bringing me down to the lowest weight of my adult life.

I managed to maintain without jabs for a little while, but soon a stressful patch of time got the better of me, the good habits disappeared and the weight crept back on.

I got up to 13 stone and decided I needed to put the brakes on the weight gain, so reluctantly went back to Mounjaro in spring of this year. Second time round I found the weight loss to be much more difficult, as if my body had built up a tolerance and no longer felt strong effects from low doses the way it had first time. It took me 3 pens to lose one stone, and it went straight back on within a few weeks of stopping the jabs.

I want to shift a bit of weight, and I want to prevent the gradual creep of weight gain so that I don’t end back where I originally started, but I’m fed up of jabs. I’m fed up of injecting, of thinking about cold storage, shelf life and sharps bins. Keen for an alternative, I’ve now switched to Wegovy pills.

I’m 10 days in now, and so far I have noticed absolutely nothing. No change in appetite, no change in weight, no side effects. Nothing at all.

After what happened with my second attempt at Mounjaro I suspect that there is some form of tolerance that builds up, and I’ll likely need a stronger dose to feel any impact. So I will keep going for now, but it is disappointing to spend all this money for no results.

I’d love to hear from anyone else who’s started Wegovy pills recently, particularly if you’ve used the jabs previously. How are you getting on?

Hi, I am on MJ thinking of swapping to pill for maintenance, when I run out. I started a thread about this to understand others expereinces. Didnt see your thread sorry! What dose tablets are you on? Its so hard to know what to do isnt it? Have you spoken to your provided for advice?

ChunkyMunky · 22/08/2026 22:55

Hi @TheBrickCritic

I’m just on the very lowest starting dose of the Wegovy pills. I didn’t actually realise until reading a few threads here that starting on a higher dose was an option, and I’d already ordered by then.

I’m with Zava, didn’t discuss it with them at all, I just ordered online and they were quite happy to send it. No new consultation as it is the same provider I used for all my MJ jabs. They’ve sent a few information emails but nothing personal. I don’t mind that really, there’s options to get in touch with them if I need to.

I think my plan is to give the pills a go for a few months, I suspect I need a higher dose after the Mounjaro, but I’ll just increase the strength each time I order until I find one that has some noticeable suppression.

I’m not chasing massive losses now. When I lost a lot, first time round, it was quick but I did really suffer with side effects. I persevered because I was desperate for a big change. But I don’t want to have to do anything that dramatic again, just something easy, stable and long term.

I still hope that I won’t need to be buying weight loss medication forever, but I think I stopped a bit too abruptly before, and at totally the wrong point in time. Hopefully pills will be easier to gradually drop down doses & frequency when the time comes.

What dose of MJ are you on at the moment? Are you still loosing, or trying to maintain?

Hi @ChunkyMunky

I am currently on 5mg. I previously tried going down to 2.5mg but was getting into some bad habits towards the end of the week so decised to go back up to 5mg. I saw a chart that said 5mg =4mg tablet so ordered that and it was dispensed. Its good if you are not chasing the big losses as gives options to go up the doses when you reorder and will help with any side effects.

ChunkyMunky · 23/08/2026 23:58

I think I will go up on my next order, hope I don’t need to go too high though, the costs all mount up!

I am hoping the new pill foundayo coming out and being popular because you can take it anytime with no fasting restrictions will make wegovy pill cheaper and less in demand. That is wishful thinking.

I'm not sure that will happen as Wegovy out performs Foundayo.

I'm on a Reddit thread which has discussed switching from Mounjaro to Wegovy or Foundayo. The upshot is that you need the higher doses of the pill and even then they only roughly equate to 5 mg of Mounjaro. If you are on a higher dose it likely won't be effective for weightloss.

People need to stop thinking of Foundayo / Orforglipron as a primary weight loss drug. Even Eli Lilly seem happy to position it as a maintenance tool, following weight loss from injectables :

The way Foundayo wins is not on crude numbers of pounds lost, but because of its convenience - no injections that you have to keep in a fridge, no strict fasting requirements for a daily tablet. Lose the initial weight on the jabs - then ditch all that malarkey and just take a daily pill to keep it off. Job done.

Hi. I’m about to order the tablets for maintenance after being on 7.5mg of MJ. I’d stay on it if it wasn’t for the cost so want to give the tablets a try, hopefully at a dose up from the starter dose.

I’ve been holding off ordering until Foundayo is available thinking it will be more effective than Weygovy pills but maybe I’m wrong to assume this. I am not bothered about the half hour fast so think I’ll order now as only have one dose of a pen left.

Mamatriesmounjaro · 24/08/2026 23:33

Can I ask OP - did you need any skin surgery losing that amount? I'm aiming to go from just under 17 st to around 12 st and then maintain there but worried about needing surgery etc!

Well done on such an amazing loss and hope the tablets help!

Hi. I’ve ordered that 2.5mg dose too, one up from the 0.8mg starter dose.

It’s difficult to compare directly with MJ, but 2.5mg Foundayo will almost certainly be a step down in suppression from 7.5mg Mounjaro.

I asked AI to guesstimate the comparison based on clinical effect, as there’s no published conversion.

My estimate
Mounjaro 2.5 mg weekly
~4/10
Foundayo 2.5 mg daily
~4-5/10
Mounjaro 5 mg weekly
~6-7/10
Foundayo 5.5 mg daily
~6/10
Foundayo 9 mg daily
~7/10+”

Re-reading your post I’m not sure if you’re ordering Wegovy or Foundayo ? Just note that my comments relate solely to Foundayo compared to MJ. I’ve never been tempted by Wegovy.
