Weight gain after a short break from MJ and holiday

Hi everyone

I have been on MJ for 5 months and have lost a stone and a half. Just to say I was prescribed it for my lipadema and had a BMI already close to healthy weight. It has been a god send for me and my legs look so much better since being able to lose the extra weight. However I have just returned from holiday and had a 2 week break and am absolutely devastated that I’ve put on 9lbs! I didn’t over indulge - yes I ate more but I didn’t expect such a big weight gain. Has anyone had a similar experience and will now take me months to get it off again?

thank you

Often a fair chunk of post holiday gain is water retention from booze and eating saltier, more carby foods etc. You don't say what you ate more of or if you drink but I would hazard a guess that 3-4lbs of it could easily just be that. If you focus on hydration and going back to healthy stuff, it'll go very quickly.

With lipadema, isn’t it even more likely than usual that it’s water weight?

Can I ask how the MJ helps the lipodema?

Did you stop taking mj on holiday?

Hi - yes I did as it was to a hot country and didn’t want to travel in the heat with the pen

Hi

if you have a look online there have been some limited studies done which show positive results. For me and I can only speak for myself it has reduced some on the pain and whilst I definitely still have disproportionately bigger legs (always will unless I have liposuction) they just look less jiggly and bumpy

Thanks - I don’t drink alcohol but i definitely ate things I wouldn’t do here such as crisps, pretzels etc with high salt content

I recently had a 12-day holiday in the US and gained about that - after my first week back I weighed myself and had lost an astonishing 10 pounds in a week!! Literally all water weight as previous posters have said. It’ll come off easily.

So some of the weight is water / glycogen. Have a strict week and see how much you lose.

I've just been away, I'm not on WLI but gained 9 pounds in 2 weeks within 3 days of being back I was 7 pounds down, so probably gained 1 or 2 pounds while I was away which is probably fair, I don't usually have pudding every day! I think most of it will be water/bloating/salt

FlorenceLawrence · 20/08/2026 10:52

I skipped an injection for my holiday last year, and while I was quite careful, I did eat stuff I wasn't eating at home - more alcohol, small pudding, chips etc.
I think I put on about 9lbs too but it came off v v quickly once I was back home.
Then I continued losing weight as I was before - so don't panic.

Recently back from 15 days in Orlando. Skipped my MJ jab whilst away. Arrived home Saturday, weighed myself and decided to ignore the scales, which showed a 6.5lb (3kg) gain. By Monday morning I’d lost half that gain 🙈

This morning (5 days later), I’m only 1lb over my pre-holiday weight. A lot of the gain was water and constipation! The nutrition and quality of the food (parks and Disney hotel) was dire!

Don’t panic, just keep to your usual routine 😊

I still take mine on holiday but I'm less careful about what I eat when I'm away and I still usually put on a few pounds. I think it's due to the higher salt/sugar content of the more junky food I eat on holiday. And I also eat a lot more refined carbs away from home as it's harder to eat healthy. It just causes water retention.
It should come off pretty quickly once you get back to normal eating.
With coming off the jab for 2 weeks, you'll still have it in your system so it shouldn't have too much of an effect, although the amount in your body will have reduced as it wears off so you won't get the full effect.
