Wegovy and feelings of sadness?

I’m on week 3 of Wegovy. My latest jab was yesterday.
I don’t know whether it could be related in some way but I’ve developed very strong feelings of sadness, a sort of overwhelming crushing feeling. I’ve no idea why- I’ve absolutely nothing to be sad about.
I’ve not ever experienced this with any reason behind it before and have no history of depression.

Has anyone else felt this?

I think I have this on mounjaro… it makes me very reflective and I feel less joy.

Gingercatlover · 19/08/2026 18:23

Yes same for me with Mounjaro, almost a can’t be bothered with anything feeling.

DeltaAlphaDelta79 · 19/08/2026 18:25

Yes I had this with Mounjaro and now with Wegovy.

Hopefulsalmon · 19/08/2026 18:29

Yep. Just one of the reasons I came off it, feel normal again now.

Yes. On mounjaro. Also about Week 3/4. Lasted about 2 weeks and then quietly left, the same way it crept up upon me.
I did become careful and watched my mood carefully, though.

That’s actually really reassuring to hear, thank you.
It’s feels very odd, like my baseline mood has changed. I’ll ride it out for a couple of weeks and see how things go.

Ok there is two reasons.

low blood sugar causes this, when I feel myself and my mood going down I have a gluscose tab, they are cheap, I use the dextrose ones, I get them from Amazon but most supermarkets have them. Just keep a pack by your bed, in the living room, in your bag etc,pop one or two and it is likely going to right itself.

secondly you may have got your dopamine hits from food or drink, you need to find a way to replace that, for me it was exercise and clothes. Everyone is different, but you need to find a new dopamine hit.

Here is an ai summary if it helps, as said, no need for riding it out, just buy some glucose tabs, whenever I feel myself becoming a little low, irritable etc I just pop one and it rights itself

Low blood sugar directly causes low mood, irritability, and emotional instability. Because glucose is the primary fuel source for your brain, a sudden drop starves brain cells of energy, disrupting the neurotransmitters that regulate your emotions.
Furthermore, a rapid plunge in glucose does not even need to drop below the official clinical threshold of 70 mg/dL (4 mmol/L) to alter your emotional state.
Why Low Blood Sugar Changes Your Mood

  • The Stress Response: When glucose drops, your body triggers a rescue cascade of stress hormones, including adrenaline and cortisol. This fight-or-flight surge causes acute anxiety, panic, and nervousness.
  • Brain Energy Deficit: The prefrontal cortex—the area of the brain responsible for self-control and emotional regulation—is highly sensitive to glucose shortages. Without enough fuel, it struggles to control impulses, leading to short tempers and outbursts (often called being "hangry").
  • Neurotransmitter Disruption: Fluctuating blood sugar alters levels of serotonin and tyrosine, which are essential chemical messengers for maintaining happiness, motivation, and calm.
Acute vs. Chronic Mood Impact
  • Short-Term (The Crash): A sudden dip—often happening 2 to 4 hours after a high-carbohydrate meal (known as reactive hypoglycemia)—causes a sudden wave of sadness, tearfulness, or intense anger.
  • Long-Term (Chronic Instability): Repeatedly riding a "blood sugar rollercoaster" of spikes and crashes causes persistent low energy and systematic inflammation. Over time, this significantly elevates the long-term risk of developing clinical depression and chronic anxiety disorders

Yes my friends and I became very meh, totally lost our joy and fun despite being happy with the weight loss. Think it’s the drug and also losing the excitement of shit food. Thankfully my personality came back when I stopped taking it (with most of the weight too)
