Are you thinking about WLI and worried about the side effects. Can I tell you something?

I started Mounjaro nearly 20 weeks ago. I have been counting calories but also eating things I previously enjoyed. I used to eat an entire pizza circa 1000 calories. Tonight I cooked half a pizza and managed 3/4 of that. I eat protein and veg, plenty of fibre. I’ve had some loose stool, particularly after jab day but it’s all largely positive. So far I’ve lost 2 stone. Slow and steady. I’m posting because there seems to be so much fear around side effects, seemingly forgetting the huge benefits. Of course I’m just one person but don’t let the fear hold you back.

Great work!!!

I lost 52 kilos on Mounjaro & I did have an unwanted side effect - I really feel the cold now. I cope by wearing more layers etc. I’ve always been hot not cold so it was a big change.

the heatwave has been very manageable & I’m on holiday on the Med & the heat is wonderful whereas previously I would have melted.

so not all side effects as bad.

Venusunbroken · 15/08/2026 21:50

I lost over six stone and now maintaining on it, no side effects, like 80 percent of people,

I take a psyllium husk with a litre of water each day, ensures no constipation
drink 3 litres of water a day
eat a clean and healthy diet, low fat, low starchy carb, plenty of veg, salad, fruit protein

its been all good, well over 2 years now,

TheSunBeatsDown · 15/08/2026 21:53

I would love to use WLI to lose or maintain my weight, but both times I used them, I was beaten back by extreme exhaustion that just never went away, months in, and not losing that much weight either. I am envious of those who it works for, and wish it was me, I think you have to try it and if it works out, it works very well indeed.

GoldTie · 16/08/2026 08:15

It’s not unreasonable to be wary of side effects. I pushed on with MJ because I kept reading the side-effects would go away as your body got used to it. Well in my case they didn’t and I ended up shitting myself in the street. This was 3 months in, and I did everything correctly regarding a clean diet and water, and was on a very low dose. I guess I’m saying to listen to your body if you’re not getting on with it.

I changed to Wegovy pill a year later and I’m getting on well with that, very minor side effects.

ChocolateIsBad · 16/08/2026 22:05

Not getting side effects doesn’t mean someone else won’t. It’s an individual risk-benefit decision for everyone.

And vice Versa, but the fact remains it’s a 1 in 5 chance and it’s a 5 day half life, so after it’s half out your system, plus you start on a low dose, any issues you just dint do the next jab, it’s not like it’s a life time commitment.

I’m worried about losing muscle mass. It’s fat I need to get rid of and can’t risk losing muscle as I get older

Foolish1984 · 16/08/2026 22:14

I’m only day 5 and not a single side effect. My appetite however, was reduced significantly before I’d even reached 24 hours! So far, so good!

Respectfully - well duh! We all know this. But it hells to see that some people (like me) have not had any side effects, particularly for people who have been relentlessly googling all the side effects and reading horror stories! It helps to balance that out and see things objectively.

SilenceInside · 16/08/2026 22:19

@Muchtoomuchtodo fortunately you can do some weight or resistance based exercise, and make sure you eat enough protein (although no need for the huge amounts that sometimes get suggested) and you will be very unlikely to lose excessive muscle mass.

I already do that and just don’t have time to do any more than I already am

SilenceInside · 16/08/2026 22:27

@Muchtoomuchtodo Then you’ll be fine, if you already do that sort of exercise.

I’ve literally just done my 3rd jab. I was absolutely terrified of the potential side effects but other than a bit of tiredness and the odd bit of constipation, I’ve had virtually no side effects but I know others have. So I think being wary is always useful

The medication doesn’t impact muscles, that’s simply about losing weight. You need to consume enough protein snd work out, it’s the same however you lose weight, the medication makes no difference.

I think there is a vast difference between being wary and absolutely terrified.

I started MJ Jan 2025 and lost over 40% of my body weight. I’m now lighter than I have ever been as an adult. My cholesterol levels are really low and I feel great.

I am maintaining with a small weekly dose and have no intention to stop taking the medication that’s keeping me healthy.

Side effects: Feeling cold. Really really cold.
Occasional constipation, resolved with senna.
Tiredness when increasing doses.
That was it. No sickness or diarrhoea.

Try it. If it doesn’t work out for you then you will know.

Pibblegirls · 17/08/2026 09:01

I’m two years in now and it’s changed my life.

I automatically stick to around 1700 calories a day and don’t even think about it any more. It’s just become another part of my life like taking daily migraine medication. Occasionally have minor diarrhoea if I drink coffee or eat certain things but that’s it. I lost a lot of hair and was often tired in the first year but that’s just rapid weight loss in general and now I’m eating normally and the hair has all grown back.

Four stone off - from 13.5 stone to 9.5 - and I buy nice clothes and enjoy fashion etc again after spending about 4 years wearing nothing but workout leggings and t shirts (despite the fact I did not exercise).

The only thing I’d do differently is to do daily weights and stick at it so I was more toned. I plan to start reformer Pilates once the kids are back at school.

FishersGate · 17/08/2026 17:05

I am on my 4th week and still suffering side effects for 2 3 days after jab. Proper exhaustion nausea and constipation.

I have lost 7lbs in 3 weeks and have about 4 stone to go but its bloody hard work and the side effects are pushing me to try something else.

Gosh how awful!

good to hear you are getting on better with the pills though it was very brave of you to try them after your <cough> mishap.

I’ve been doing hot yoga - dynamic classes. I’ve got very strong and built muscle doing it. Dd commented how muscular my back was today.

imagine that! A muscular back, not a fat back!! Me! It’s lifechanging.
