Does anyone know how weight loss pills compare to Mounjaro injections? Also any idea how much
“Fooundayo” will be? I am aware this may be premature .

I'm not sure anyone will know yet about Foundayo prices but what I do understand is that Foundayo, like Wegovy, only gives one hormone, not two like Mounjaro, so tends to be less effective. From what I understand the pills are less effective than the jabs.

SilenceInside · 11/08/2026 16:30

Foundayo is a non-peptide GLP-1, so it doesn't have the GIP-mimicking hormone that Mounjaro does in addition to the GLP-1. It showed 9 to 12% of starting weight lost over 72 weeks in the clinical trials. Mounjaro showed 22% of starting weight lost over 72 weeks, so Foundayo is much less effective.

No idea as to the price, given that there's no supply chain as of yet. It may be a few weeks before pharmacies are ready to get stock and prescribe it to patients.

The pharmacy Simple had uploaded some pricing (I saw it on Reddit) but their website appears to be down at the moment so I can’t link

SilenceInside · 11/08/2026 18:31

@eeyoredebbie it’s working for me. I don’t know if the prices they’ve posted are what they really intend to supply them at, but it is stating £100 for the lowest dose up to £117 for the highest dose. So not a huge difference between lowest to highest.

Wow I’m surprised at that, irs less effective than the wegovy pill , I can’t understand why anyone would pay more for a less effective pill.

forthelasttim · 11/08/2026 22:18

Foundayo at Second Nature:

0.8 mg, 2.5 mg and 5.5 mg (starting doses) £129

9 mg £149

14.5 mg and 17.2 mg (highest doses) £179

It hasn't taken off in the US in the way that the Wegovy tablets have. I guess it would appeal to people who don't want to do injections, in the same way as the Wegovy tablets appeal, but who also don't want to have the strict requirements around taking the tablets as per the Wegovy ones. Seems like quite a limited appeal.

I guess that it’s two fold, insurance often pays for it, and if you’re paying the same price for both tablets, then you’d pick the more effective wegovy one.

im surprised el Lilly are charging the same for the pill as the wegovy pill when it is significantly less effective,

KrazyKatty · 12/08/2026 08:26

I think over here, it will be marketed as a pill for maintenance rather than serious weight loss. Presumably, Lilly prefer people to take the more expensive jabs to lose significant weight?

The fact that you can take it at any time of the day and can eat or drink before and after makes it sound much more attractive than Wegovy to me and I’ll definitely be considering using it for maintenance.

Me too. This is the one I’ve been waiting for.

I lost 2 stone on Mounjaro and have been at target for nearly a year. I’m still on the weekly jabs of 2.5mg to 5mg as I really don’t want to undo all the good work.

I’m lucky enough to be going on a post-retirement trip this autumn - to Greece, Japan and Malaysia. The chances of me being able to keep a mounjaro pen cool for nearly 5 weeks are zero. The chances of being able to take a Wegovy pill every morning on an empty stomach with just a sip of water ( AND then not immediately gulp down a strong coffee) are not that much better.

Foundayo / Orforglipron removes both those issues at a stroke. This is why many of us on maintenance will favour it over jabs or Wegovy pills. A couple of percentage effectiveness points down on oral Wegovy - who cares ?! All this particular tranche of users are concerned about now is maintaining. And that’s precisely how Orforglipron has been discussed - not as a front line treatment but as a tool for maintaining. I’ll just take the pill alongside my BP and Statin pills and (hopefully!) that’s that.

I was over the moon when I saw this news, still am. Refreshing the Bolt app on a daily basis…

I like the sound of it, it’s easier to take. I’d be happy with 10% weight loss to get me going. Supposed to cause some gastro issues though which does put me off a bit.
