Controversial topic! Has anyone used a MJ pen after its expiry date? 😬

I would not personally use injectable liquid medication after its expiry date. Just doesn’t sit right with me. All pens I’ve had have had long expiry dates so never needed to (I do shuffle stock pile a little to use up the ones that expire first).

I wouldn’t use my liquid B12 injections outside expiry date either.

I have used slightly out of date paracetamol and other well stored tablet meds, but liquid feels less robust to me.

Do you mean a new pen, or one that has been opened for a while?

The dates on my Mounjaro pens are so long dated I wouldn’t need to as I can’t see why I would keep a pen I currently have unused until some time in 2027. I normally have one to two pens unused in addition to the one I’m currently using. They will get used on a rolling basis so none of them would get the chance to go out of date.

I haven't, and I can't see a scenario where I'd have enough stockpiled to even consider it. But there are some things I would take into consideration if it did happen.

It is a "new" ie previously unused pen? An open pen might be more likely to be contaminated.
How far out of date? A week or 6 months feel like very different propositions.
Are you confident that the pen has been stored correctly for the whole time?

If I'd taken 3 doses out of a pen that expired end July and my next dose (last in the pen) would be in the first week of August, I'd probably use it.

Have you built up a large stockpile of pens?

I’ve been very careful to ensure I rotate mine in date order so I’ve never had that problem. I guess, if it looked ok and I didn’t have another pen, I might chance it. 🤔

I don’t use outside of expiry date (never have them long enough) but I regularly use outside of the recommended 30day from first use of pen window.

I use a pen longer than 4 weeks and I’d maybe use expired a week pas but I can’t think I’d allow that to happen.

Thanks for your replies! The pen is unopened and has been kept refrigerated the whole time. The reason it’s nearing the expiry date is because I stockpiled a couple of pens then stopped using MJ because I reached my target weight. I’m very slowly gaining and have a month long holiday in October so know I’ll put on a few pounds, therefore I may want to use the remaining pen when I get home. It will be a few weeks out of date.

I currently am.
Out of date in April, only just opened it.
Stockpiled and now using all the pens up.
No problems at all, still feels exactly the same.
Did a quick chat gpt about it and it said it wouldn't be harmful, only thing would be is weaker, but honestly I cannot tell the difference. Aslong as the liquid is still clear and it's been in the fridge it should be fine (in my experience)

I will add, same supression, same weight loss results. Not had any different reaction
