Is a weight loss injection pen still safe after four weeks?

So, I injected once with my pen 4 weeks ago, then mistakenly thought I'd thrown it out! But just discovered it hiding in the back of the salad drawer, stupid thing (me). There's 3 doses left in the pen but is it safe to still use it?

You’ve got 30 days from the first injection, so you could use it for one or maybe two injections depending on exactly when you used it first. After that though you’d be going against the manufacturer instructions so it’s up to you whether you are happy to take the risk. No one can tell you that it will definitely be safe. If the liquid is cloudy or has particulates in it then don’t use it.

If you are going to continue to take Mounjaro, maybe get a specific storage box to put the pen(s) in so you know where they are. I am also puzzled as to why the decision to start using the pen now.

I'm maintaining on 2.5mg. I thought I'd thrown it out because I'd done a huge spring clean of the fridge, and when I went to inject with it the second time it had disappeared. I was running on nearly zero sleep when it happened and in the same week also threw my glasses in the kitchen bin.

Sorry forgot to say that I last injected 3 and z half weeks ago.

I can't advise on your pen but if it has stayed in the fridge throughout it is likely to be fine. I've used pens for 8-10 weeks that have been kept in the fridge the whole time without any issues at all.

I get that a lot of people ignore it. As to whether it’s necessary, well I am clarifying what the manufacturer says about usage which is based on the evidence they have about contamination and degradation. Whether people choose to ignore those usage instructions is up to them as individuals but it’s worth being clear on the matter before people make that decision.

I make an informed decision to take the risk and use my pens for 8 weeks. Been over a year, never had a problem. I'd use it.
