How soon should Mounjaro start working and what should week one feel like?

Had first MJ jab 2.5 on Saturday and I feel absolutely no different to usual. No effects (bad or otherwise) whatsoever.

the usual history of up down up down for 30 years. Hovered around 70kg with virtually no carbs for the last 4 years. Been creeping up over the last year and now around 80kg. I graze, Even if I’m not hungry I’ll fancy something satisfying, so it’s not just hunger makes me eat more (or too much crap food). Food noise I suppose. A lifetime of obsessing and bad habits.

So how should I feel in week 1 of MJ? And when should the effect kick in?

It's really variable. Some people feel the effects on the same day as their first injection. Others it takes a few days, some it takes a few weeks. Others it may take until they are on a higher dose with some needing the top dose of 15mg to get the full effects.

The medication itself peaks in your system between 8 to 72 hours after injecting. Each week you inject the amount in your system builds as only half of it has left your system by the time you do the next injection. There are GLP1 injection tracking apps that are interesting to show the estimated amount of medication in your system day by day.

You'll hopefully soon notice that you stop thinking about food, mindlessly grazing and even forgetting that it's meal time. When you eat, you will start to feel full quicker and then stay feeling full for longer.

That’s reassuring.
I suspect I was expecting that elusive instant magic wand, that logically I know does not exist.

I'm at the other end of the spectrum - effects were almost instant (1-2 hours after jabbing) but accompanied by dizziness and low energy and a low level headache, to the point where my health care provider has suggested not taking jab 2 and then on week 3 taking a half dose.

It was instant, but definitely not magic 🙄

I definitely felt fuller faster, so my portion sizes went down a lot. I also started getting really thirsty. I was told that by a friend who started WLI a month earlier so was prepared.

OneDayIWillLearn · 22/07/2026 20:05

I didn’t feel anything dramatic in the first week. It was more noticeable after the second jab but still wore off after 3-4 days. Then I went up to 3.75mg after a month and it was very noticeable and lasted 7 days.

TheChosenTwo · 22/07/2026 20:16

I was very heavy when I first started and can only assume I was a super responded with insulin resistant PCOS (well I knew I had that specific condition!). I jabbed on the Saturday night at bedtime and woke up Sunday morning not thinking about food at all. It worked very quickly on me and I shed weight at speed. As is fairly typical for someone with a lot to lose.

ScubaSteven · 22/07/2026 21:07

I was very overweight and I noticed side effects within a few hours, I just felt so full and had a bit of a headache. The next day I just didn’t feel like eating, after a few days I was able to eat at the usual times but just a tiny amount of what I’d normally have. It’s been like that for the last 10 months, I’ve lost around 6 stone and it’s slowed right up now.

MermaidsAndManatees · 23/07/2026 22:34

I think it might actually be having an effect. Definitely picking less. Weird.

Week 2.
weighed this morning and 2.2kg down (I know this is just early adjustments)
second jab at lunchtime. Forgot to eat lunch. Had to consciously think about what to do about dinner.
I think I was expecting side effects. Like feeling nauseous so not wanting to eat. Or wanting to eat but not able to or something. I’ve never needed to be actually hungry to eat. But it’s like I’m simply not thinking about food or eating.
so weird.

Sounds like it's kicking in then. Prioritise protein if you're not hungry and you'll be ok!

MermaidsAndManatees · 25/07/2026 19:36

I’m fairly used to mostly avoiding carb and having mostly proteins so that bit will be ok.
i think the weird bit is what ‘normal’ people may feel. Like ‘I’m not hungry therefore I don’t need to eat’. Is that what humans should feel?

I think it’s exactly that, OP! It is weird isn’t it? But wonderful..

Apparently so. Weird isn’t it? I wish I was one of those. I’m convinced half of the world has a faulty stomach reader.

MermaidsAndManatees · 02/08/2026 11:27

Week 3.
no side effects.
keep forgetting to eat.
like the obsessive food thinking and eating because I fancy it is gone. Therefore what’s the point.
Another 1.5 ish kg down.

Thanks for this thread OP
I had my first jab on Friday and today is an all-day family event where there is going to be constantly available picky-bits food for hours. I don't know whether I am going to be carelessly overeating, or frustratedly making myself abstain, or miraculously just not interested in the food and happy to just chat.

RecorderOrder · 02/08/2026 19:48

Took my first dose at night and by 6am the next morning I couldn’t even face milk in my tea. I was lucky enough to be a super responder, lost 4 stains and never went higher than 2.5mg every 7-24 days.

Well I am pretty sure I ate a lot less than I might have if I was giving myself free rein under non-medicated circumstances, but probably still more than I should have. Mostly stuck to plain chicken and saladdybits. Feeling full but not uncomfortable or queasy.

I think i might be similar but am just starting out. How did you decide on the 7-24 day intervals.
Congratulations on your weight loss, it's impressive.

Sorry it was meant to say 7-14 days but sometimes I would go up to a month. I simply waited until my appetite and food noise started to return before I jabbed.
it’s not so easy now that suppliers are clamping down on jabbing every month, there’s little flexibility from what I can see now.
