Minoxidil for hair loss with Mounjaro

Mounjaro2026 · 17/07/2026 09:16

Has anyone used minoxdil to manage hair shedding?

Did it help?

Should I go for the 2% or 5% version? The 5% seems advertised at men and the 2% women which is why I wasn't sure.

Thanks!

Alternatively I was thinking of trying one of these serums:

The Ordinary Multi-Peptide Serum for Hair Density and Scalp Support

Kérastase Genesis Anti-Hair Fall Nourishing and Fortifying Hair Serum for Weakened Hair

I've been taking collagen and biotin and multivitamins since the start. I've lost almost 20kg and the hair loss has suddenly gotten very noticeable. I'm titrating my doses down to come off Mounjaro but really want my hair back!

Minoxidil is unlikely to do very much for weight loss induced telogen effluvium, which will sort itself out on its own anyway in 3-6 months. If you already have thinning hair for other reasons, then it might help.

Look into your iron and b12 levels if you haven't already (you probably have!).

I lost quite a bit of hair after being on MJ for 6 months, did a lot of research into it and decided to wait it out rather than use anything that appears to be nothing more than snake oil. 3 months later and it’s started growing back thankfully! Am approaching maintenance so it should grow even more then hopefully.

Mounjaro2026 · 17/07/2026 14:02

Thanks - doesn't sound like it's recommended, which is honestly a little disappointing as I'm desperate for a fix 😅

I've not checked my iron and B12 but they are both in the vitamins I take so I don't think it should be an issue.

Good to know it grew back for you eventually!

i have the kerastase night serum repair and it has done wonders to my hair. It has reduced breakage a lot and it gives a shine to my hair. My hair look healthier. Not sure how it compares to the anti fall one. But it terms of reducing breakage it is spot on

GrinchoftheNorth · 18/07/2026 10:02

Keune serum, I won't go as far as to say hair magically grew back because I doubt any topical treatment makes hair grow but it's certainly improved my scalp health and my thin patches are growing baby hairs. Alongside a protein and veg based diet

Yes. I lost a lot of hair on Mounjaro the first time and Minoxidil has brought it all back. I take the tablets from Hair and Me, which are 0.5mg. I’ve never tried the topical one.

I did wait quite a while after stopping MJ to start minoxidil and the hair definitely didn’t come back on its own. I am b12 deficient which might have caused the hair loss rather than the MJ, but I only discovered the B12 deficiency about a month ago and minoxidil had brought my hair back before I even knew about it.

Hair loss puts me off. My hair is already thin

Catontheradiator · 20/07/2026 14:46

I’ve used the HAIR & ME service with 0.5mg tablets of minoxidil and have gone up to 1.25mg. On them for 7 months and noticed more baby hairs and less shedding. My hair is really long now and I’m coming off the tablets at the end of this prescription as I’m in maintenance now and going to see how I get on without as they are expensive. I will ask pharmacy about a private prescription to see if I could get it cheaper.

ThirdStorm · 20/07/2026 15:17

I lost a lot of weight very quickly on MJ and experienced hair shedding. It eventually stopped. I take collagen and biotin and have lots of regrowth.

RockChik · 21/07/2026 20:55

Minoxidil is the only proven drug to decrease hair shedding. Biotin only helps if you’re deficient to begin with, which almost nobody is. I started using 5% Minoxidil foam and it definitely worked (I have loads of new regrowth), but I’m really lazy and so have stopped using it. I bought three bottles and have only used ~50% of one bottle 🙈

Yes- I have the tablets from hair and me

This is interesting. i am on Hair and me too and did't realise you could ask to go up a dose.

When you do the monthly review just say growth is slowing and they put me up. It is expensive so I saw someone on here recommending hair repair clinic. Looks better value once the hair and me discounts have ended and the dose is higher.

Thanks, I have just been in touch with the hair repair clinic. It looks interesting, except their website is really confusing, I will report back once I have actually found out what they are offering.

I'm so tempted to try WLI injections after years of serial yo-yo dieting but I already have hair thinning and this really puts me off - do most people lose hair on them I really don't have enough hair to risk it

I have lost weight quickly before on the heartbreak diet and my hair was fine. I do think it’s a mix of losing weight too quickly and the drug itself.
if I was to do it all again I would start on half the 2.5mg dose (but I do think I’m a super responder I literally couldn’t eat anything). I don’t shed now I’m in maintenance and on very low dose. I can’t say for certain that minoxidil makes a difference but I have got some thickness and growth back. My hair is long.
