What should a new joiner know about this community?

Tell us about the tone, how people support one another, and any unwritten rules, customs, or in-jokes that help make this community what it is.

Reply to this thread to share your thoughts.

Do you mean through threads on here in the WLI section or out there in online or RL communities outside MN?

SilenceInside · 15/07/2026 13:52

Yes, agree with @MargoLivebetter that it's not clear what you mean. Can I also ask why you want people to comment on this - what are you going to do with the comments?

Hi @MargoLivebetter @SilenceInside thank you for your replies, and sorry if the original post was unclear.

We’re exploring whether a Topic Guide could help new joiners quickly understand how this topic works and find their feet, while protecting the established tone and sense of community that existing users value.

We’d love to hear your thoughts.

For this particular section, it would be useful to be clear that discount or referral codes for weight loss are not allowed to be posted and will be deleted.

The tone, customs, unwritten rules and in-jokes totally depend on the culture of specific support threads, not sure that I could generalise about that.

Ah, ok. I'm probably not best placed to answer, as I was a starter in August 25 and the thread I was on was supportive and really helpful. I don't think it needed any guidance, but it maybe it is different on other threads - I haven't looked. I think it may still be up and running. Amazing poster called @blondeshavemorefun ran it and I think still does.

I kind of maintain (for want of a better word!) a maintenance thread these days and again I'm not sure what kind of guidance would be helpful, as everyone seems really friendly and good spirited. I'm not sure if there are other such threads though and if maybe they need guidance.

Other than the kind of guidance you give generally, I'm not sure what you would specifically say that is specific to WLI, but again, for all I know there could be mad trolling on some of the threads! I agree with @SilenceInside that reminding posters not to post about discount codes needs to be clear.

Fiendishandfiery · 15/07/2026 14:29

I think it’s very supportive and very experienced members, who are willing to advise and help, but misinformation will be corrected, as there does appear a small contingent of folks who post scare mongering and made up erroneous stuff then take issue when corrected. Any question is welcome but using the search function is always a good idea,

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/07/2026 21:59

Again not sure what you want as same message is on telly addicts

the scaremonging even 2yrs on is annoying

def no discount codes

but also 2yrs ago it was hard to get and now seems many clinics offer at 26/28 bmi even if never used before

thank you @MargoLivebetter it’s still running tho quieter as we are 2yrs on

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 16/07/2026 17:11

I’ve been reading and posting in here since Oct 25 when I started WLI.

i think it would be useful to cover the no discount codes/referral codes as these are always cropping up.

Also an explanation that each month’s starter threads provide a space for people starting their WLI journey at the same time, and whilst they are there for everyone to read, try to post in the one that is the best fit time wise - occasionally new posters will try to join in on one that has been running for 18 months plus and see then gently told to start their own thread or join a new one for that month.

And then on top of that specific questions/queries - try searching first - then post a new topic, don’t hijack somebody else’s post….

And most importantly, a reminder to all that their best source of advice for dosage, medical issues etc is actually their prescriber…. We all see these sorts of queries and will offer up relevant experiences but ultimately this is purely experience not based on medical knowledge ….

beintheheavens · 16/07/2026 17:15

Everyone now and then a ‘Just eat less, move more, it’s not rocket science’ so-called expert turns up to tell us the error of our ways. They don’t last long! 😂

Molm · 16/07/2026 17:22

How this topic works:

Each month someone starts a "starter" thread and when you are starting WLI you should find your month and join it. In the starter thread, you can ask all the questions, share worries, experiences as you go through the journey together at the same stage.

You can post any time of course but you'll get more friendly support if you join your month thread. When people say month thread this is what they mean.

Don't post your codes. Don't post asking how to get it illegally etc. Not much else specific to this forum.

NoTouch · 16/07/2026 17:35

I would personally shy away from posting any posting thread "rules" as the weight loss treatment landscape is constantly evolving.

For example - yes there are starter threads each month, but with the latest Wegovy pills I can see how those guys want their own long running thread rather than joining a monthly one. Poster are good at pointing people to other long running threads they might find helpful.

The board will continue to evolve itself.

some possible rules I'd like to see -
don't post/or offer discount codes over DM
a warning to not believe everything you read, make sure you understand it and the risks especially if off label
don't discuss or buy from anywhere unregulated, or drugs that are unlicensed in uk

Ketra · 21/07/2026 20:57

I'd echo what's already been posted about this being a generally supportive area but misconceptions will be corrected, the monthly threads, not posting discount codes etc... but I would also make it more explicit about the grey market discussions - it's very clear that there are a handful of people trying to promote their links to grey market purchases so making it clear that only certain drugs are currently legal for prescribing would be great - I think some people innocently hear about the grey market avenues on TikTok etc... and then get preyed on when they ask questions here.

Some lingo:

NSV = non scale victory. Something good that happened because you lost weight.

Click Counting - when you take a part-dose by counting clicks

Clicks - A full dose from a Mounjaro pen is 60 clicks, which is 6ml

Bonus/Golden Dose - the extra liquid left after 4 doses have been taken from a pen. Has historically been over 1 full dose but is now being reduced
