Has anyone found alcohol causes sickness while taking Mounjaro?

Hey! So I’ve been on mounjaro for 8 months now and pretty much at goal weight so am going to be stopping soon, however, I have had experiences throughout the 8 months where I just can’t have alcohol, like I’ll have a glass of wine and immediately feel like my stomach is spasming and I need to throw it up to feel better. It’s usually been a one off and the next time I have a drink I’m fine. However, since my jab on Sunday, I’ve come away on holiday and EVERY time I’ve had a single drink I’ve had the same reaction. Stomach pulling, and spasming and nausea to the point I’ve had to be sick each time and go for a lie down. I’m now 6 days post-jab so concerned I’m still having this issue!! Has anyone else had this? For reference I had one pint of cider on Weds - sick. Nothing Thursday. Then tried a white wine spritzer on Friday - sick, and then yesterday we were having a bbq so tried another white wine spritzer which was predominantly soda water, exactly the same! Had to throw up and then couldn’t eat! It comes on rapid too, like within 20 mins of my first sip.
Has anyone else had this? Like I said I have had similar episodes throughout the 8 months but they’ve been one offs!

Yes, but not to the degree you're describing.

I was sick overnight once last year after foolishly working my way through a bottle of fizz one summer evening, the day after jab day. Generally it reduced my desire to drink and I'd stick at 1-2 glasses. But psychologically, not the way you're describing. Maybe a bit of reflux as well. And definitely less of an impact further from jab day.

I'm titrating down now and that particular effect seems to be waning. I'm finding it easier to drink slightly more.

It does show just how individuals all react differently to this drug. Plenty of people seem to have no reduction in their desire to drink at all.

How old are you OP?

I couldn’t drink anything once I got to Peri-menopause without feeling ill/migraines etc. and so it might be that coinciding with the jabs?

Have you got a plan for maintenance or are you hoping to risk going cold turkey?

PO1990 · 12/07/2026 16:45

@KrazyKatty I’m 35 so I don’t think it’s that, although I guess it’s always possible. The only thing is that when I have had breaks from it, the sickness has completely gone and I’ve not had any vomiting or nausea when I’ve had a drink so I’m leaning towards it being the jab as the main culprit…. It’s just so random, most the time I’ve been fine and then others it absolutely does me over with a tiny amount!! I planned to just go cold turkey as I’ve in the last 6 months took up running and the gym and hoping that along with calorie counting will be enough to maintain! 🤞🤞🤞

@GiveMeWordGames Yeah it’s so strange, most the times I’ve had a drink I’ve not had any problems but every now and then it just does not tolerate it at all. This is the worst though. I’ve never gone above 5mg and been on 2.5mg for most the time so I’m wondering if cause I’ve been on 5mg for a few weeks now the levels of MJ in my blood are higher and that’s why it’s worse? Not sure but I’m going to have a week without it and then maybe try going back to 2.5mg for a few weeks before stopping! & yeah it’s so strange, I know a few people on it and they have had no change in their desire or ability to drink …. Jealous 🤣

I have IBS, alcohol used to be fine with it until then it wasn’t, so I stopped drinking. And I love it that I never feel rubbish after going out now!

Noshowlomo · 12/07/2026 17:05

Yes I puked every time I drank on MJ. It’s not a bad thing, booze is so bad for weight loss

use can raise the risk of serious side effects of Mounjaro, including low blood sugar.
Alcohol doesn’t directly interact with Mounjaro, but it’s best to avoid or limit alcohol while taking it. Alcohol and Mounjaro don’t directly interact with each other.
Alcohol can worsen certain common Mounjaro side effects. Mounjaro has a number of common side effects. Several are digestion related, such as: Nausea. Vomiting.
Mounjaro and heavy alcohol use both carry a risk for pancreatitis and kidney damage. Drinking alcohol has both short- and long-term effects. In particular, heavy drinking can cause pancreatitis (swelling of the pancreas) and kidney damage.

In this episode they say that one in two people on Mounjaro have problems drinking alcohol. No idea how accurate that is not being an expert myself.

worldsgonemadnow · 12/07/2026 20:22

No, but I've had alcohol a few days this week as Ive been on holiday (in this country) and I've found it causes hunger and lack of satiety! 🤷‍♀️

@Noshowlomo Very true!! And thanks, glad it’s not just me 😅
