Has anyone had liposuction?

Not really sure where to put this query, but would love to chat with anyone who has had liposuction, particularly on their lower body.

I am in the initial stages of looking into clinics and surgeons and I want to get it done on my thighs and bum. They are just out of proportion with the rest of me and have caused me misery and self-consciousness all my life. I'm a size 10-12 and I have a slim upper body, but a big bum and thighs and I just hate it and find it really hard to find clothes that look good, because I'm basically one size on top and another on the bottom.

Anyway, I'm finally in the financial position to get something permanent done about it and having made the decision I feel like a weight has been lifted off me. I'm thinking that VASER liposuction will probably be the correct treatment for what I want to achieve, but if there is anyone who can share their experience, I would really appreciate it.

In particular, I'd like to know what your recovery was like. How much pain were you in and how long did it last? Were you up and about quite quickly? I know there are strict rules around compression garments, exercise, flying, etc, but how much time did you take off work? What did you say to people at work? Did you tell them you were having surgery or did you just say nothing and take a couple of weeks off?

I saw a programme on this - basically saying it’s terrible for health - as the fat is later regained on the stomach which is unhealthy fat near internal organs vs thigh and bum fat which is healthy. Why not consider WLI instead to lose the fat?

I would never qualify for WLI - I weigh 9.5 stone! This is about my genetic shape, which weight loss doesn't change.

Of course it does. I also genetically store fat on hips and bum. I used WLI to lose weight and eventually yes, it came off my hips and bum. I’ve done a massive amount of upper body weight lifting to balance out my physique.

I’d suggest if you don’t qualify for WLI (which you can now get at a BMI of 25) and have a lot of fat on hips and bum such that it’s out of proportion I’d suggest that would indicate that you either a) aren’t that fat and it’s just cosmetic (most likely) or b) you are under- muscled (skinny fat) - in which case the best thing you can do in increase your muscle mass.

A friend has a liposuction on her upper legs. She lost 2.5cm on each leg. Had to get twice weekly lymphatic massage during recovery. Six months on, she looks the same as before but she feels better in herself.

A colleague had a liposuction on her stomach (and boob job: reduction ) A year on, she has gained her stomach back but not so much her boobs. Recovery was very painful.

I wonder if you have lipoedema, OP? A disproportionate lower half is a real telltale. No amount of diet and exercise makes a difference to
lipoedema fat - only liposuction. But it has to be a very specific type of liposuction and a surgeon who knows about lipoedema. Please have a Google

I got high volume lipo abroad and it was one of the best things I ever did. Very expensive though! Although they can take more fat in certain European countries for the same price they charge here to take half as much.

Ugh, sorry, just to point out my username means black jeans in Spanish - I was just looking at some black jeans and translated it into Spanish as I thought it would be less likely to be taken.
