Using WLI in grief

My mum just died a week ago. I’ve been on WLI for 8 months.. just hit target & tapering off. Since she died I’ve not had the energy to make good choices around food - not overeaten massively at all, but def more than usual & all the wrong things. I’m on maintenance dose of 2.5mg so willpower & exercise is needed.. I’ve got/ done neither for a week now. I’ve not got on the scales but feel softer as was weight training almost daily before. Has anyone else been in similar situation? I’m so overwhelmed with grief right now I can only focus on that.. I don’t want to deprive my body of food as I feel so weak but have no energy to cook good meals.

Hi op, yes. My mum died in March.

My recommendation is to cut yourself some slack right now.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss

So sorry about your mum. Make life easy on yourself and just get ready meals from m&s. Easy to calorie count and good food.

So sorry to hear about your mum @hnwis

Do whatever feels best for your health now, you can pick up Mounjaro again in the future when you’ve got a little bit more head space.

Taking care of yourself is the priority for now.

Hi OP, I’m very sorry for your loss.

For now, just focus on getting through each day and try not to worry about what you’re eating, because eating anything is still better than eating nothing. Maybe buy fruit like bananas and apples and some ready meals because then you’ll have options when you do want to eat something.

Stick with the 2.5mg dose and don’t give yourself a hard time. Even if you put a bit of weight back on you know you can lose it again when you’re ready, so no need to stress yourself unnecessarily. Sending you hugs 🤗.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss.

Even without grief, tapering off doesn't work for everyone. I would stick to a normal dose - one that suppresses your appetite properly - while navigating grief, and then reconsider in 6 months, or 12 months.

Wishing you all the best.

I know this doesn’t sound physically healthy, but mentally it was what I needed. Each time I lost someone, I cut myself slack and ate what I wanted to give me immediate pleasure and distraction from the grief. Each time I put on a few stone. Then after a few months when it starts to feel a little lighter, I lose it all again. For me, depriving myself in those dark times just wasn’t an option. Sorry for your loss 💐
