Jammed pen

Just this really. I don’t live in the uk but am here on holiday. Have recently switched from wegovy to Munjaro and the pen has jammed on the last dose. Went to Boots who said there is nothing that they can do.

has this happened to anyone else? What did you do?

TIA.

When did it jam - on injecting? Did it prime ok when you put the needle on?

Is the red seal bulging at all?

SilenceInside · 10/07/2026 13:43

You could consider getting 1ml insulin syringes and extracting the medication that way. No pharmacy would suggest that though as it’s against the usage instructions.

The red seal isn’t bulging… and, upon reflection, I started this pen on 11th June. So I think I have had the full four doses, this must be the magical ‘extra’ dose that I have read about. (Doesn’t happen at all on wegovy!)

so I have started my next pen (I brought it with me) but it galls me to see that much in the pen, going to waste!!!!

So tempting! Would I need a prescription for this? I plan to be on M for at least a year before going back to wegovy (due to finances)

I had this and I wound it back in, changed the needle and it worked.

Just to add the pen is designed to lock after around 258 clicks - so 4 doses plus some extra for priming - so it is working as it should.

If you do use a syringe, you need 0.6 ml for a full dose. Usually (in the old style pens) you get around 5.25 doses of liquid.

SilenceInside · 10/07/2026 16:04

Yes, as @putthehamsterbackinitscage says you can just buy the kind of syringes linked and use them to extract and inject. A normal dose is 0.6ml, there’s usually at least that left in the pen, sometimes more. You can see why people want to use it as an extra dose given that the pens cost £150 to £250 depending on the dose.

Thank you! I shall go and get the syringe tomorrow
