Restarting weight loss injections after a break, did 2.5mg work again?

Starting it again for the 3rd time- has anyone done this and found it as effective on 2.5 as the first time you used it?

Started Dec 2024 - lost 2 stone and dipped in and out for a year, trying to maintain even if no loss
.
Put on 7lbs and started again Jan 2026 but the effectiveness wasnt there on that dose - the cost prohibited me from carrying on at 5mg so I stopped in April.

I was with Bolt and they said the months being on 2.5 were a way of my body adjusting but it was so expensive to not lose anything in 3/4 months.

Have put on 16lbs so am biting the bullet and starting on 2.5mg on Saturday.

I am hoping that 3 clear months of it being out of my system means the 2.5 will start working straight away with lowering my cravings etc.

Has anyone restarted after a break and found the effectiveness was strong straight away on 2.5?

Thanks

I started again after 8 weeks break. I was on 10mg, and had been on MJ for a year.

2.5mg no effect
5mg no effect

feel I have wasted 8 weeks. No weight loss at all. Going onto 7.5mg now.

I don't understand why people get frustrated that the lower doses don't work the second or third time around - it's pretty well established by now isn't it that the effectiveness isn't the same when you've been on it before? There's no point in going on it if you're not going to be patient to get to the higher doses.

For various reasons I had a break of over 6 months, just restarted a week ago on 2.5 and I am pleasantly surprised that yes it is just as effective as last time. Even more maybe.

2.5 has only ever worked for me in the very first week of taking it. I did 18 months then had a break for five months. I’ve just gone on to 10mg and it’s finally working again.

Restarted after a 9 week break from 12.5mg after a 1st gain (from a 4.5 st loss)

it’s been a real struggle second round and lost the st now (from 2.5-10) just finished 12.5 with 0 loss and been on a plateau where I last stopped . Starting 15 this week and if it dosnt work I will start tiltrating down . I have 1.5-2st to loose but won’t go cold turkey this time around even if 15 dosnt kick start things

Didnt work for me i just did first month on 2.5 to get up to 5 which is now working a bit more. I was on 7.5 when I stopped 6mths ago and sure I read somewhere that you have to get back up to previous dose before it really takes effect again

I don't know why you'd take it for 3/4 months with no loss and not change anything? I had to take a break for hospital tests, I started again on 5mg and topped it up every few days when I felt it stopped working. I've lost a stone in about 3/4 weeks but obviously a lot was water etc. I had put on a stone and a half so still another half to get to where I was. I am going to do 7.5mg next. I'm not doing 4 weeks on each, just keeping at a level where it is working and staying there till it doesn't. I was previously up to 15mg and it is obviously working at lower levels for me at the moment but I feel it is wearing off quickly and using shotsy I can see I need to keep my level at minimum 10mg or so in my body. Hope this helps.

Experience shows you will have to go upto similar dose as you did first time round due to receptor tolerance.
What dose did you got upto in 2025 before you stopped? Did you quit cold turkey or taper down?
Also second time round did you gain while on 2.5 for 3/4 months? Why didn't you move upto 5mg sooner? I know you have mentioned cost but it is pointless starting again if you are limiting your dose as we are all different and need the dose our body requires. If you needed a higher dose first time round then chances are you will again.

@Mysticmaiden I got up to 5mg and then tapered it down using my last pen, hoping that I could control the cravings more. Which tbf I did for a couple of months but the last few weeks I have been back into old habits and thinking I need to realise I may just be on this for life

I think you need to view WLI as a long term solution not a short term fix, dipping in and out is not going to be effective unless you can commit to significant lasting changes and eradicate any bad habits, snacking, drinking, unhealthy portion sizes and have a proper exercise plan in place that is adhered to. Even then it’s possible you will regain weight if it’s a biological or hormonal mechanism lifestyle changes alone can’t impact, that’s the beauty of WLI they work on the mechanics and rewire your metabolism and biology.

It's a waste of money staying on lower doses. It might be cheaper but it probably won't work. I am praying it gets cheaper soon as I can't keep paying £300+ a month.

Outofspace · 03/07/2026 21:42

I'm back on 2.5mg after a long break (almost a year) and it's at least as effective as first time. I'm shocked how effective it is. I never went higher than 5mg previously and was only on it 3 months (needed to lose 1.5 stone at doctor's request to get close to BMI of 25). Over the last 6 months almost a stone had crept on so I started again 3 weeks ago. I've lost 9 pounds in 3.5 weeks and have excellent appetite suppression and food noise has disappeared completely. Less side effects than last time too, just some constipation, which I am managing carefully. I will stay on it longer this time and taper down slowly, while I try to really cement the good eating habits I'm practising and I am just very grateful that it has been so effective second time round.

BackontheMJtrain · 03/07/2026 21:47

@Outofspace thank you for your experience, so pleased it is working so well for you! Really hope I have the same suppression 😀

Thanks Helen will look at that.

Very pleased to report the food noise has suppressed almost as much as when I first took the jab! Big relief, lost 2.5lbs so far since Saturday
