Mess up on Magic dose. Stupid!

So so stupid!!!

I'm on 7.5mg and have been taking an additional 2.5mg weekly for a while as approved by the GP however today being a cocky so and so I've withdrawn the magic dose (from the bottom left,after my usual dose) of 0.6 in a syringe thinking I've take 2.5mg but have a nauseating feeling its 15mg. Slightly worried now. Whats the worse that will happen? I've never had one side effect as I'm type 2 diabetic anyway. Sugars always perfect do I take my metformin as usual. Just worried I may go mega low from the extra dose.

0,6ml from any pen is a full dose of that strength. I think you’re saying that you took 0.6ml from a 7.5mg pen. That would be a 7.5mg dose. If you did that on top of also doing a normal 7.5mg dose from the pen then yes, you have done 15mg instead of the intended 10mg.

If you are diabetic I would check with your GP asap about whether this may cause an issue.

If the GP is prescribing then this mistake is an excellent reason to ask the GP to just prescribe you a 10mg pen.

How? . As in how are you taking an additional 2.5mg? Is that from a completely different pen? .
Which pen did you do the bonus dose from?

Are you taking a full 7.5 then a different full 2.5? .
I hope you will be ok, but cant work out what you have done.

I agree that it’s really unclear what you have been doing with doses and pens, and what you tried to do today with the medication left in one of your pens.

I got the end dose out with a medical syringe 0.6 which I thought to be 2.5mg then realised the pen being 7.5mg its effectively double dosed. I know I'm stupid

@Bexxie9015what strength was the pen that you extracted the 0.6ml from? Had you already done a normal dose from that pen or another pen today?

I think we know that you extracted the medication from the pen! What isn’t clear is what strength the pen was and what else you injected today.

Also not clear why you aren’t just being prescribed a 10mg pen if your GP wants you to take 10mg.

My next script is for 10mg. Because I have two pens the GP said to take 7.5 and do the clicks for 2.5mg but because the last dose was still there, the one I've always thrown out I thought I'd use it.

I made the same mistake once. I think I was on 5mg and miscalculated the magic dose and took 12.5mg. I got major suppression but not a lot of other side effects. I am not diabetic so I don't know how that would affect its impact on you. I hope you're ok!

Do you have a glucometer OP? If so, I'd check your sugars. I don't know if pharmacies have glucometers where you could get advice and check? Have you had any side effects?

No, I've never double dosed, but did have a bad reaction using the golden dose. I'd been on 2.5mg and the golden dose was about 3.8mg. I thought I must have somehow double dosed or had noro virus because I had severe D&V within hours of injecting and could barely keep anything down. My stomach ached and I felt absolutely dreadful. Luckily, the next day I felt fine but have been so cautious and still only take 3mg now.

Gosh that sounds rough. I'm just getting over a bug now so I just know its going to be bad. Sugars are all good thankfully as have a monitor, BP is good and HR. Just inside my head way too much.

So as I understand it - you took the 4th dose from a 7.5mg pen with a normal pen needle and then took the 5th dose from the same pen by extracting 0.6ml with a syringe, which you thought equated to 2.5mg? So what I think you have done is injected 7.5mg twice which is a 15mg dose. Is that right?

You've got it. Feeling a little sick and shaky but okayish. Lesson learnt here. Hope someone learns from my stupidity

So you do now realise that to get 2.5mg from your 7.5mg pen, you should have taken 0.2ml?
