Has anyone lost weight on Mounjaro without changing what they eat?

Has anybody not done a specific diet / ate the same foods as usual and lost on mounjaro?

I ask because I have a very close friend who has lost 4 stone, she said she hasn’t changed her diet or the foods she eats at all, mounjaro has just helped with suppressing her appetite and portion control. But she’s still eating the same foods, just less of it, not particularly healthy or counting calories.

Has this been anyone else’s experiences?

Yeah, I’ve lost about 3.5 stones without calorie counting or changing the type of food I eat.
I just eat less of it. My diet was always pretty good though, reasonably balanced, and varied. I just ate too much. Now, thanks to the jabs, it’s a whole lot easier to eat a lot less.

Shortsally42 · 23/06/2026 18:32

Broadly yes, because it's mostly the volume I eat. I'm curious why it matters to you though!

SilenceInside · 23/06/2026 18:34

She has changed her diet, her portions are smaller and therefore she will be in a calorie deficit. If you’re in a calorie deficit you’ll lose weight.

I have lost 11st and I haven’t calorie counted. I have changed what I eat, in that the meals I ate were always fairly healthy just too large a portion and too focussed on carbs, and then I would snack (a lot) on top of that. Mounjaro reduces my portions and removes or reduces the urge to snack.

I think everyone’s experience is personal to them, and it’s great that your close friend has lost the weight. That will bring lots of health benefits for her.

It doesn’t matter to me. I’m taking MJ myself, and see a lot of people saying they are calorie counting at the same time, so it surprised me she didn’t do any of that and still had fabulous results x

I counted calories but still ate the same foods, just less of it.
I don’t crave chocolate as much on mounjaro. Still like it but it doesn’t give me the “hit” it always did.
That said, I still eat some chocolate a few times a week.

VividDeer · 23/06/2026 18:41

Not calorie counting. Eating same stuff, but less. Loosing slowly which I'm happy with.

Apparently some people are "super responders" to the jabs. And some people don't respond at all, like Prue Leith. I'm no expert, but people who are doctors have written some articles so anyone who wants to know more on this can google if they want to.

I lost over 50 pounds on MJ. I didn’t change what I ate at all, just ate less of it. Still drank wine. No side effects even at 15mg.

My weightloss was great - 4lbs a week and it was easy peasy. Now my sister’s on it. She has more to lose but is barely losing anything. I think it doesn’t work well for everyone.

Zempy · 23/06/2026 19:16

Yeah. You could eat the same food but much less of it and lose weight.

Kerry242 · 23/06/2026 19:20

My DH had to go quite up alot to start seeing the weight come off and feel the effects. He hasn't changed what he eats but is eating much less. He's lost 3 stone, he could have doubled that if he put down the ice cream and chocolate. He had about 7 stone to lose total.

I lost 3 stone on wegovy. Spent 2-3 mths on lowest dose then the rest on 0.5mg. Never went higher. Lost 3 stone and got down to a healthy BMI. I did diet though in the beginning but that drifted about half way through. I don't know if that makes me a super responder or not.

wendywoopywoo222 · 23/06/2026 19:37

I lost 8 stone on montjaro and ate the same meals just less volume It was having the ability to cut out the large portions and not be constantly looking for snacks. I still have chips and takeaways just much less of them. I’ve never counted a calorie.

TheLette · 23/06/2026 19:37

I'm not calorie counting but I eat pretty healthy meals and small portions anyway, and I don't eat much fast food, sweets, takeaways or drink alcohol. I am snacking a lot less (most days not at all) and rarely go in for a second portion. I used to eat a ton of chocolate and I rarely bother now (although last night I did get into a Lindt bunny).

cramptramp · 23/06/2026 19:42

Me. I still had chocolate every day. I ate the same food but a lot less of it. Easy.

Proteinpudding · 23/06/2026 19:45

Some people find that on mounjaro they can't finish even half of their ordinary meal. So if they're cutting the volume of food down by 50-75% then they will certainly lose weight. Additionally for a lot of people WLI mean they don't get a dopamine hit on salty/sugary/fatty foods so although they might think they're eating the same things, because they're not consciously saying no, they're actually eating a lot less of the treats that they usually don't notice/skip over.
I use wegovy and I was trying to eat healthily before taking the medication so I kept tracking but couldn't tell that I was eating much different. However the amount of calories coming from sweet treats was definitely less when looking at the diary entries before and after starting the meds.

RaininSummer · 23/06/2026 19:50

I think that could work. I eat mainly healthy foods but too much so supresssion should do the trick. Not brave enough to find out though.

bugalugs45 · 23/06/2026 19:50

Yes I did , probably took me longer though which I’m ok with as limits the loose skin and other issues associated with rapid weight loss . 4 stone took me almost 18 months, now bmi 25 , and don’t intend to lose anymore ( still jabbing for maintenance)
I don’t drink as much alcohol as I did previously either , but only because I don’t fancy it . Likewise with take aways.

Still eat chocolate and crisps though !

AWomanOfWealthAndTaste · 23/06/2026 20:06

Me, mostly. Like others, I already had decent habits beforehand and my problem was portion control, plus I didn't have a huge amount to lose. I still eat a couple of squares of chocolate every day, and have been maintaining at 24.5 for months now.

Where I have changed my habits a bit is eating out, as some foods are too much now. Used to love a curry but it's too heavy to digest these days, so I only have home-made spicy food where I can cook it myself and it's lighter. I like fish restaurants, tapas, Vietnamese and Middle Eastern instead.

Gardenflowering · 23/06/2026 20:14

I’m so envious of you all.
I count & track every morsel, eat healthy and reduced volume yet struggle to shift anything on MJ.
For the last 2 weeks I’ve deficit of around 500 cals per day and put 2lbs ON.
Utterly utterly soul destroying.

ShrankLastWinter · 23/06/2026 20:21

I already ate quite a healthy diet but I have tweaked it. Especially when I was eating the lowest amount, I felt I needed to prioritize nourishment in those calories. So very little by way of processed carbs or other ‘empty’ calories. Also a higher bar for the ‘worth the calories?’ test. But all the way through I’ve still enjoyed meals out, high quality ice cream, good chocolate.

AWomanOfWealthAndTaste · 23/06/2026 20:24

I was never really that suppressed either. If I could only get down a few mouthfuls a day then obviously that would've required much more planning!

Mackerelfillets · 23/06/2026 20:33

I have lost 3.5 stone. I have reduced what I eat and the amount I eat but it hasnt been that hard, I just listened to my body. However I would have lost more by now if I had given up alcohol. But i still enjoy my weekends! Got another stone to go.

HollyhockDays · 23/06/2026 20:34

I’ve eaten the same stuff just a lot less of it. I’ve lost four stone.

RobinEllacotStrike · 23/06/2026 20:36

I lost 52 kilos without calorie counting on mj. I think I will need to “calorie count” to keep it off though.

hecalledmecaptain · 23/06/2026 20:48

Yes. Lost 5 stone. Didn't change what I ate at all. Just ate a lot less.

I wasn't always over weight though and when I was "naturally thin" (15 years of my adult life and all my childhood), I ate pretty much what I wanted. I just didn't want it over eat, or eat loads of crap.

I will say though that my diet is pretty good, I just ate waaaaayyyy too much of it all the time because I was never full.

Been off the medication for 18months now and maintained my loss.

Flannelfeet · 23/06/2026 21:12

Yeah me too 👋. I only went up to 5mg for 2 or 3 months and back down to 2.5 I lost 3st 9lb. Im on 2.5 to maintain now but eat whatever I fancy and dont put any back on, obviously im not over eating but if i want chocolate, crisps,a burger i have it.
