Anyone tried protein shakes alongside Wegovy for weight loss?

Morning all. I'm going to be starting on the Wegovy injection once back from my holiday. As i mentioned in a previous post I'm away at an All inclusive from two weeks and wasn't sure whether to start before i went or not. Decided to wait in case of any side effects.
So since then i thought i would give some weight loss protein shakes a go to see if i could help things along before i go away. Has anyone else tried these when on the jabs? Only planning on having for my lunch and then a sensible evening meal. I rarely eat breakfast so it would be just replacing one meal. Any advice welcomed. Have a good day

I would skip the protein shake and have a low carb high protein meal instead. The shakes are normally full of sugar and other unnecessary things so focus on clean food instead.

(I havnt tried the jabs) but worked in fitness

I think it's typically better to eat 'real food' if possible although I do have a Huel shake for lunch sometimes if I am out and can't cook or access what I would consider a decent lunch. It's low in sugar and although it's not exactly delicious, I don't mind drinking it.

I make a protein shake because I can’t eat much on MJ. I do banana, protein powder, Greek yogurt, peanut butter and then skimmed milk

If you’re just eating one meal a day there is no way you will be getting enough fiber.

Lose weight the way you intend to keep it off. Use the jabs to re-educate yourself about balanced nutrition and portion size. I use protein shakes as a supplement to reach my protein target but they are not intended for meal replacement.

I use protein shakes with Wegovy, but not as often as I did with Mounjaro.

I like MyProtein banana. I don't use milk but add a bit of skimmed milk powder.

You could get the same or similar calories or more protein from a chicken breast though. I just couldn't face any more chicken.

I'd rather eggs. My bowels wouldn't.

I use protein shakes occasionally with strength training, as a supplement, but I'm not sure why you'd use them as meal replacement?
The point of protein shakes is to be able to take in more protein than you can manage in your meals, ie when you're not hungry. They are easy to consume as drinks aren't as satiating as a meal. Replacing meals with them is likely to leave you feeling hungry or unsatisfied and eating on top.

I used them as at first I could hardly eat anything at all. I still have them now I am at target weight if I am being lazy or are on the go. Helped me get more protein in early on, esp if using the clear whey shakes.

On the jabs you often arent hungry so a good way to get protein in when you cant eat much. On 2.5mg for first few weeks I struggled to eat more than 500 calories so it really helped me.

Sorry to barge in as I’m not on WLD!!! but for me protein shakes which I sometimes have for breakfast help satiety and reduce hunger too soon, when I want something quick and would other be in danger of overeating. If appetite is suppressed by WLD, I’d not make a smoothie but have the ingredients as a yoghurt bowl. Which I also do and I think it’s less of a sugar spike than a smoothie and better to have the whole fruits.

I understand that, though the OP was suggesting using them instead of the jabs, before the holiday.

Her post asks if people used alongside though.

When I was younger I wpuld replace breakfast with a shake, sometimes lunch and it worked for me to maintain my weight, or lose the odd pound. Since hitting 40 it didnt work on its own any longer.

I’d caution against using the diet shakes as meal replacements regularly if you’re using WLI.

I’ve happily used them in the past (pre-menopause) to shift the odd half stone, so I don’t disagree with using them in principle.

The reason for caution now is that the WLI can cause serious digestive (constipation) issues in some users (me included), and so it’s really important to ensure you increase your fibre intake. If you drink a shake for breakfast, consider adding things like chia seeds to it to help increase the fibre content of your daily diet.
