Not tolerating WLI after a year of being fine - what to do?

After a year of taking Mounjaro with minimal issues, I started reacting badly to it after going up to a 15mg dose- terrible diarrhoea that meant I couldn’t leave the house for days! I dropped initially to 10mg, and then 7.5mg, but had the same reaction each time, even though I’d been fine on those doses before.

I have a lot more weight to lose - this is so disappointing. I can’t tell you how gutted I am. I’ve stopped taking it for the moment. Does anyone have any experience of taking a break for similar reasons and resuming it at 2.5mg - starting again? Maybe my body has developed an intolerance and will react badly to even a low dose.

I got up to 12.5mg at one year in and in week three of that dose my body reacted and didn't like it at all.

Stomach cramps, D & V but this was the day after over eating on two occasions when I had been out to lunch and also had something to eat in the evenings plus some rich puddings. This was completely new.

But an overall feeling of my body generally reacting to the injections and complaining about them. I felt somewhat anxious about what to do and waited a week and things settled down.

I then injected again at 7.5mg for two weeks and was very careful about not over eating. I have just gone up to 10mg again and things are OK. But I do occasionally get some mild stomach cramps and a feeling of discomfort.

But I am wary and am going on holiday soon and will not try moving up again to 12.5mg until I get back. I've got another 2 stone to lose at least and have already lost 4.5 stone to date.

Constipation is an on going struggle and I have to Movicol every other day and it gets worse with any increase in dose. But like you I have noticed at a year in my body not tolerating this as previously. However, I accept my circumstances are different to yours and I can still take lower doses.

Time will tell how I get on and whether I can increase dose again etc.

When I looked online to hear others and their experiences of not responding well at a year in, some people did take a break and resumed and were OK again and could build up. I hope it works out for you as it is worrying when you are not yet at goal and know that there is quite a lot more work to do.

I had out of the blue v&D after two years. I had eaten a very fatty meal late the night before the jab .

I went down from 15 to 10 then following week, and made sure I ate very lightly the day before my jab. I had much milder side effects that time, and then was ok the next week.

Pepto Busmol really helped.

Thanks @Kipperandarthurand @damemaggiescurledupperlip- so interesting that you both mention what you ate as worsening the issue potentially. Thank might’ve been the case - to a degree - with me too.

@Kipperandarthurwhen you mentioned reading about this online and people finding it okay after taking a break, can I ask where you found this? I only really use Mumsnet for this. Have you found useful threads elsewhere? Reddit?

I think if you go up higher than your body can tolerate and 15mg is the highest dose it may make you sensitive to it completely as your body is rejecting it.

can I ask why you went up so high, was it simply not working at the 12.5 or 10?

Yes I do occasionally pop over onto the Reddit threads and read other people's experiences on WLI.

@FiresidechatterI felt it had become effective than it had been and I wondered if it might help.
