MJ storage

Hi,
If MJ pen has been stored unopened in the cupboard for the past 30 days, in the cold packaging it was delivered in for the first few days at least, do you think it's safe to move it into the fridge now and start using it for the next few weeks?

Yikes - I thought it had to be refrigerated as soon as you received it.

Does the liquid look clear or cloudy? If any sign of cloudiness I believe it goes into the bin.

Personally I’m not sure I would feel safe using that - but I’m no expert and I’m sure someone more knowledgeable will come along shortly.

KrazyKatty · 06/06/2026 09:45

Why on earth didn’t you put it in the fridge when it arrived???

Unless the cupboard is in a very cold room, it won’t necessarily be safe to use now and I wouldn’t risk it.

On a similar basis, you wouldn’t eat cheese that has been lying unopened in a cupboard instead of a fridge, would you?

MoneyJo · 06/06/2026 09:48

Depends on the cheese!

I think given the heatwave of last week I wouldn't risk it.

Punk79 · 06/06/2026 09:51

I was away and my partner just left my post in the cupboard

No one can or should say that it’s safe. It has been at room temp for probably 27 days or so, and therefore the use-by guidelines means you only have a couple days left to use it. Regardless of whether it’s now put in the fridge or not. If you think it might have been over 30 degrees then don’t use it either.

It’s up to you if you take the risk of using it beyond the stated safety guidelines. If it’s cloudy or has particles in it then don’t use it. It may be less effective than it otherwise would have been.

Leilei58 · 06/06/2026 10:12

oops yep I refrigerated as soon as recieved took my first injection this morning - you do have to check to make sure not cloudy or frozen - so if I was you check if cloudy do not use

perimenopoppet · 06/06/2026 10:17

It’s far from ideal and no one can recommend taking it. Any supplier will tell you to dispose of it. After well over a year of taking Mj my own decision would be based on my own risk assessment. It’s been sealed with no chance for bacteria to be introduced but depending on the temperatures it’s experienced efficacy may be compromised. I personally would check if it was clear every single times fastidious with hygiene, and use it within 30 days of opening - keeping it in the fridge from now on. I would not extend its use for longer (as I do currently do using an always refrigerated pen). But you have to decide for yourself what you feel ok to risk.

i still think it’s far far less risky to use your pen than anything bought on the grey/black market which many people are doing.

Herewegoagainandagainandagain · 06/06/2026 11:02

You need to decide for yourself, no one here knows, personally 30 days out the fridge is too long for me so I wouldn’t in this case and take the loss as a lesson to plan/communicate better in future.

MrsMiagi · 06/06/2026 16:30

I would dispose of it because of the heatwave we had.
Any other time id probably risk one dose but it got really hot where I am!

midwalker · 06/06/2026 16:40

Its effectiveness may be reduced but it isn’t unsafe to take it because it’s not been refrigerated.

No, not unsafe to take if it's within the 30 days guideline, which applies once it's at room temperature (above 8 degrees), or once it's been opened. The OP only has a few days left on that 30 days limit though, so only 1 dose would be within the guidelines. After the 30 days, the guidance is to dispose of the pen.

Namechangee11 · 06/06/2026 17:21

It won't be unsafe but it's efficacy will be diminished... The rule is 30 days out of the fridge.

Personally no. I use for closer to 3 months but it’s in the fridge the whole time eg I even inject cold (so it’s literally out of fridge for less than 3 minutes for each jab).
