Hi
My bmi is 37. I am a massive comfort eater. Im considering starting weight loss jabs.
Has anyone regretted starting them? Why?

It’s good to read this. I’m literally back from the Drs discussing my weight and joint pains. They we’re strongly against jabs citing all the side affects.

My GP was extremely supportive

AMurderofMurderingCrows · 04/06/2026 17:17

Yes, I regretting taking it. I couldn't eat because of the fullness and was living on a slimfast drink a day which made me ill.

Not only did it suppress my appetite but suppressed my whole system. I was exhausted and depressed for the last two weeks. I thought the side effects would ease off but I couldn't hack it and came off it after 4 weeks.

Since coming off it 9 weeks ago, I've lost 20lbs on my own.

MoneyJo · 04/06/2026 17:17

Absolutely no regrets.

Pros:
Started 3 months ago and have lost 26lb in that time.
My joint pains and muscle aches have almost gone.
I've dropped a clothes size.
I've saved a fortune on all the snacks I usually buy.
Several people have said it has helped quiet their ADHD. It's done that for me.
I genuinely feel full when I eat. I very rarely ever felt full before.
I have far less food noise.
I still eat normal food, go out for meals and socialise. I just eat far less.

Cons:
It costs money (but probably balanced out by how much less I spend on food)
I'm now finding the 5mg is having slightly less impact but rather than go up a dose yet I am learning to maintain my good habits with a bit of willpower mixed in with the MJ.

OlDroopyMouth · 04/06/2026 17:29

Is all that the jabs do is suppress the appetite? So you just don’t eat as much. Or is it more complex than that?

SilenceInside · 04/06/2026 17:30

It’s more complex than that.

Catsservant · 04/06/2026 17:36

yes, 3 doses of mounjaro caused severe anxiety, panic attacks and then depression.

I am interested because I don’t have food noise, which is what I keep hearing is a thing, but I am about 21 pounds overweight. I find it hard to lose weight now I am older, not because my appetite is rampant, more that my metabolism seems different. It takes me a long time to lose a pound these days when doing the same thing years ago the weight dropped off. But what has really piqued my interest is the inflammation going down and joints not hurting any more. I can live with being plumper but the bloody joint pain and inflammation can do one.

bugalugs45 · 04/06/2026 17:46

I’ve been jabbing for 18 months , been maintenance for 6 months . No bad side effects at all, bit of constipation , occasional sulphur burps . I’ve lost 4 stone , took me 18 months as didn’t have a huge affect like some report .
I know someone that lost 8 stone and had gallstones, which would be related but not guaranteed , she still doesn’t regret the jabs because of the huge loss , benefits massively outweigh the negatives .
everyone’s different though , it’s certainly worth a try .

From what I have understood, particularly from the Hunger Games podcast on radio 4, is that some people don't produce enough of the hormone that tells you when you've eaten enough, or that quietens food noise. So the jab gives you some of that hormone so that you can respond like most of the population.

But on top of that it does seem to have a lot of extra bonus effects!

Goodness, sorry to hear that. How did you know it was the MJ? Had you had anything like that before?

Only post natal a long time ago. I didn’t link it at first but seeing things online I realised it was mounjaro. My GP thinks it’s perimenopause and is adamant that GLP 1 drugs don’t do that. I would advise anyone considering these meds to research the potential mental health effects.

I don’t think I get food noises either. Yes, I do get hungry, but is that the same as food noise?

Stuckoncrossroads · 04/06/2026 18:12

@Evasmissingletter this just baffles me, the overall gain from weight loss jabs hugely overweighs the (mostly mild) side effects in majority of obese people with no
contraindications. Dd and many in my immediate family are doctors, and amongst their overweight colleagues, almost everyone seems to be using / micro dosing without concerns. It’s a bit of a no brainier.

weareallcats · 04/06/2026 18:13

I was suicidal on wegovy - I stopped it after 2 weeks and won’t risk trying again. I do have a history of depression and am on a low dose of Sertraline, but this was much more extreme than usual. I do think the affect on mental health needs to be researched more. I have also never managed to find a hormonal contraceptive that doesn’t affect my mood, so I suspect I am a bit prone to it.

Proteinpudding · 04/06/2026 18:13

I think food noise is just levels of hunger really. Some people clearly have bigger appetites than others, and some find that food doesn't fill them up at all, if that's the case you're going to be thinking about the next meal.

I think I'm a bit in-between, since taking hormonal contraception my appetite can be a bit out of control (hence the jabs) without them I eat what should be enough at meals but still hungry after.
Being on the jabs is like how I was when I was younger, eg if I'm busy at work I won't notice iv not eaten, and I now feel content on a suitably (for my size) small portion

morbidcuriosity · 04/06/2026 18:22

Regret not starting sooner. . And I started August 2024. Best 2 years ever, 8 stone loss and a healthy bmi.

MissDixieVoom · 04/06/2026 18:22

No

SilenceInside · 04/06/2026 18:36

Food noise is not about hunger at all. It’s about the constant mental noise related to eating and food. So a constant chatter internally about what you should be eating, how many calories in things, the tub of ice cream in the fridge and whether or not to eat some/all and just get some more. The urge to eat when not at all hungry and in fact still over full from whatever you last ate, which then triggers an internal dialogue of self judgement and negative self thoughts…. Just endless thoughts about food.

Thank you for the replies. How long until you started noticing differences?

Same week. I lost half a stone.

I'm now 7 stone down and have hit a long plateau, so I'm reassessing my goals and how I'll get there, but my god it has changed my life.

DottyMcDiet · 04/06/2026 18:45

I regret not starting sooner.

In a year I’ve lost 6 stone, 30% of my body weight, I felt the effects almost immediately and haven’t gone over 6.5mg.

Springtimeinsunshine · 04/06/2026 19:07

Interesting responses, thanks for the thread OP.

Frieda86 · 04/06/2026 19:11

Really interesting the link to anxiety and depression. Ive struggled with that in the past and don't want to go back there

@weareallcats i agree, even if rare, mental health effects, need more research, acknowledgement and warning.
I had similar experience on Wegovy,I got suicidal out of nowhere, it was most bizarre, i had to stop immediately. Mounjaro is fine, affects my mood a little, but manageable and well worth it.
( I didn’t know directly of anyone else who had similar experience and felt gaslit anytime I mentioned it , so thank you for sharing !).

I have also had a history of depression and if anything I would say my mood is brighter on MJ.
@Catsservant and @weareallcats I've not heard anyone else at all talk about this as a SE of WLI so it must be pretty rare. Sorry you had that.
