New to mounjaro…. Wow

Hi all I took my first shot of mounjaro last night and wow…. Maybe I’m really unlucky 😂 but I’ve had so many side effects. I woke up at 8 for the loo, went back and forth a couple times then fell back asleep. Woke up to a sore stomach cramps and feeling light headed. Had some nausea so had toast, had a protein shake and I’m drinking water and electrolytes. I took myself back to bed to relax for a few hours and crashed out for ages as felt really nauseous. I’ve sat munching on crackers and drinking water. Still feeling nauseous, light headed and stomach pains….. definitely not for the weak. I’m really hoping a good sleep and I’ll feel better tomorrow. I did expect the stomach issues but not the light headed.

I'm two years in and am very sensitive to side effects. Certainly the first couple of weeks I had intense suppression and total exhaustion - made worse by not being able to eat much.

I am still on 5mg now - six stone down without needing to go higher (attempted to move towards 7.5mg and will never try that again!) So I would advise keeping to a low dose.

Pepto bismol is the best thing I've discovered. It stops sulphur burps immediately and prevents the d+v that usually follow.

When suffering with gastro effects, the only thing I can eat is carbs. Crackers and apples usually. Plenty of water is really important. I would argue that low carb is not for everyone and part of MJ is finding out what works for your body through trial and error. Some weird things happen, like monstrous sulphur burps after broccoli a couple of times (has put me right off!).

This is me I had toast one slice yesterday half a protein bar and some dry crackers. Today I’ve had an apple which is weird cause I don’t usually eat them. The thought of eating is like nahhh! I’m hoping it really does pass by tomorrow. Thankfully I’m working from home tomorrow. I can work from home Tuesday if I’m still the same way. Xx

Be careful of taking your dose a day early. You will still have some of this dose in your system so that will take you up above how much you had when you felt your worst.

Thank you would I be better taking it Saturday night then? And then die all day Sunday 😂😂

You could always take a smaller dose on the Saturday night. I definitely wouldn't take it early if you have these side effects. On an app like Shotsy you can see how much you still have in your system.

Nothing terrible will happen if you fast for a day. Drink lots of water.

Fasting will give your digestion time to rest and reset.

Thank you. I’m definitely keeping up with my water and electrolytes. I don’t want to give up after 1 shot I’m determined to stick the month out xx

I wasn't suggesting giving up.

Many people who use Mounjaro also do periodic fast days. Fasting has lots of benefits.

I mention this because you're talking like you need to make yourself eat while on WLI. You don't. You can fast.

That in itself will cause nausea.

@CelticSilver thanks, interesting advice and something I will think about. I’m a bit odd because my weight gain was due to taking steroids which I’m still on 30 years later! A much lower dose though. Other things have happened too which have affected my eating. DH died two years ago and his eating was quite disordered and excessive AND I’ve got teeth problems due partly to autoimmune disease and that stops me eating certain things

FirstdatesFred · 31/05/2026 11:19

I wouldn’t take it early, and I would take a half dose next time

I had eaten well prior as I’ve done a lot of research. Was hydrated and had my protein. Yesterday I had to drive crackers down my throat but I kept up with my hydration. I feel slightly better today still have a bit of nausea but nowhere near as bad. Slight headache, and I had sulphur burps and heart burn through the night. I’ll still stick it out for a few weeks hope it improves. I deliberately done it over the weekend so it didn’t affect work. Thank god I’m working from home tomorrow. It’s a roller coaster ladies lol

You are on week 1, the whole point of weeks 1-4 is to get your body used to this medication. Follow the prescribed dosing schedule and amount. Speak to your prescriber if you are struggling and get official advice based on your circumstances.

Eat well and enough, drink plenty of water, do moderate exercise and get plenty of sleep.

Oh no sorry I never said you suggested giving up I’m telling myself not to give up lol! I told myself give it a go for atleast one month and see how I get on. I know it’s a huge adjustment on the body and I’m sure it will take a few doses to get used to it. I appreciate any advice given please don’t take my comment the wrong way xxx
