Did anyone only start losing weight on 7.5mg Mounjaro?

Hi
I started on mounjaro a couple of months ago . 2.5 for the first month where I l oh st no weight and 5 mg this month . I had one week the first one where I didn’t feel like eating and lost a few pounds. But nothing since . Even though I’ve really cut down eating . I still think about food as much . In s there any point going on 7.5 . I feel I’m spending so much money for nothing .
would be better spending it on larger clothes which I really need as I’ve put on so much weight .
I’m about 3 and a half stone over what I should be for bmi . I’m probably an emotional eater too and I read it doesn’t work for people like me .
did anyone not lose until 7.5 and then started too .

Not every gets "suppression" with Mounjaro, I didn't past the first few weeks, and they need to work with it and its more subtle effects to see results. What it can do is help sustain changes you make over a longer time.

Apologies if you know all this already, but as you didn't mention it, its worth checking -

Have you calculated your TDEE and deficit?
Are you tracking everything consistently to see where it is going wrong?
Are you prioritising protein at every meal? (helps hunger throughout day)
Minimising sugar/simple carbs/UPF?
Eating whole foods you need to chew to help satiety signals?
Eating mindfully and stop when satisfied? (not necessarily full)
Keeping well hydrated? (varies by person, I aim for at least 2L at day)
Moving /walking if possible?

Even when trying to do this some people do struggle to maintain their calorie deficit until they do reach higher doses. But if the basics aren’t in place, especially tracking calories at the beginning, it’s very difficult to know where things are going wrong.

I don’t have personal experience of this. But I would not want to decide that it didn’t work for me until I’d been on the top 15mg for 4 weeks and still not experienced any of the intended effects and not lost weight.

PivotPivotmakingmargaritas · 26/05/2026 17:42

That’s really annoying for you - I've stayed on 2.5mg solely because i can barely eat on 2.5mg

Where are you jabbing? Personally the fatty part of my outter thigh gives me the best suppression. I found belly had the worst nausea and I still had food noise. Is it worth a change of jab location as well as going to 7.5mg

Kangarude · 26/05/2026 17:43

I didn’t lose anything at all until I started on 10mg. It is very dispiriting

Kangarude · 26/05/2026 17:44

I should also say that I didn’t have any side effects either.

caringcarer · 26/05/2026 18:35

I didn't lose anything on 2.5mg and only a few pounds on 5mg. I'm hoping 7.5mg will work better for me. I'm not giving up until I get to 15mg. I've read that 7.5-10mg is only a maintenance dose.

Sauvignonblanket · 26/05/2026 19:36

I read somewhere that for some people it only kicks in at 12.5mg so wouldn't give up yet, although the cost is annoying

Aisling28 · 26/05/2026 21:32

Thanks For replies , it is annoying especially when you see all the success stories at 2.5 . I’ve been overweight for about 20 years and am so dreading another summer of it .
I will try in the thigh next week and see does that help . I don’t see the point of taking it if I don’t get food suppression . Tracking calories and all that is something I’ve already tried to do for years and it hasn’t worked .

I did lose at smaller doses but got much better suppression and felt best on 7.5. Quiet brain! I loved it

SilenceInside · 27/05/2026 18:48

@Aisling28 I think the point of taking it now at the lower doses would be to establish that they don’t work for you and then to move up doses at the first opportunity, until you get to 15mg. If then you find that Mounjaro doesn’t work, you could give Wegovy a try. The new tablet Orforglipron is due out soon, and the injection Retatrutide in a while too, both of which may work for you if Mounjaro or Wegovy turn out not to.

Incognitoburrito88 · 27/05/2026 21:05

I am a huge emotional eater and it worked for me. I did get suppression too but the best bit was not wanting to eat when I was sad / happy / tired / bored etc. I would keep going.

I barely lost anything on 2.5 either and remember thinking I was wasting my money 😞 I’m definitely someone who comfort eats when stressed, so I really understood that “still thinking about food” feeling. Things improved a bit more for me after moving up, so I personally wouldn’t give up just yet.
