Is it working?

Hi everyone

I've just started 2.5mg (after a lot of faff with delivery)

I don't know if I'm being stupid, but I feel like it's working straight away.

I took it at 10.30 am. I usually have cereal and then snack constantly, back and forwards to the fridge etc. But I've had weetabix and thought about getting a brownie and then thought nah 🤣

I read a lot of people don't feel any affect for the first few weeks. Hope I'm not one of them.

Eeeeeee

Hi there. I had my 2nd jab last week. I definitely felt something the first day! Dreadful heartburn the 1st night after dinner and some mild nausea brushing my teeth. I didn't snack after dinner either. I did have some constipation too. I've read that the 2.5mg is only priming the body to get used to higher doses, so maybe its placebo. I've lost 3kg in 10 days, but am aware that is likely just water. I'm happy for any early results though. I've been consciously drinking more water and trying to get more protein.

There is a May starter thread that you'd be welcome to join too.

It worked right from day 1 for me and I lost 4lb in the first week.

Brokentoes85 · 25/05/2026 15:43

@7238SM I was wondering if it was the placebo effect. I've had some lunch now, and usually I eat loads and snack snack snack, but not today.

@MoneyJo I'd be thrilled with that!

I'm on 5mg now but hoping to stay on that quite a few months as I am losing around 2lb a week and that seems sensible to me.
Good luck!

Thank you. Where do you order from? Also can you keep ordering the same dose from the same place or do you have to shop around as they want you to increase doses each order?

You can stay on the same dose with the same provider if you want, they can’t make you move up. A lot of people shop around to get the best price as a new customer using multiple providers, monj.co.uk are great for showing cheapest current prices.
If 2.5mg continues to work for you, by all means stay on it as long as you can! I’ve been on it for 12 months and have only just started doing 5mg in the last two weeks.

MoneyJo · 25/05/2026 22:50

What @dizzyupthegirl86 said. I shop around going for a good price on monj.co.uk and I feel in control of the dose.

Wow, that's really impressive, are you losing weight still on that dose?

I actually started following a Dr online who seems v v slim, who I think is just using it to maintain her weight and to cancel out the food noise.

I'm really surprised it's worked this quickly for me. I've eaten approx 1250 cals today, I haven't eaten less than 3000 in more than 6 months. Hoping tomorrow is another good day.

I’ve lost 5.5 stone so far, I did 2.5mg for about six months, 3mg for about three, 3.75mg for three, then have done two weeks so far on 5mg!

I know some people disagree with tweaking the dosage, but I think especially if you manage to stay on 2.5mg for a decent time like I did, you become quite tuned in to your body and how it responds. The first two times I increased dose, I needed a bit of a boost, but didn’t feel I needed ‘double’ the effect, if that makes sense.

i also learnt a few other helpful things too, like if I don’t eat a morning meal, I feel much hungrier in the evenings than I would have otherwise. My effects seem to be on a week long delay so if i have a week of terrible eating or intense exercise, it only real takes effect the week after. Stuff like that made it easier to stay on a low dose for longer because it felt like there was so much I could try when loss slowed down before I moved up!

Brokentoes85 · 26/05/2026 11:10

@dizzyupthegirl86

That is interesting. I had no idea you could do more than 2.5 but less than 5. How do you do it with the pen? Haha that's probably a stupid question.

I'm having to push myself to eat breakfast this morning.

I find that @Silenceinside is the person in the know for doses! But if I remember rightly you can get 3.75 from a 5 pen by doing 45 clicks.

dizzyupthegirl86 · 26/05/2026 14:27

Yep, what @MoneyJo said!
though I use separate needles/syringes to do mine rather than counting the clicks (I jab my arm usually and find the pen very awkward to do that with!) so I just withdraw the right amount of liquid.

as I said, some people really disagree with not using it strictly as intended but I can only say I’m glad I got a good six months out of the middle (ish) ground between 2.5 and 5mg.

even after going up as gradually as I have though, 5mg is still hitting me pretty hard! I get a headache the day after jabbing and my appetite is very very low the first two days. If it doesn’t ease in the next week or two I may drop down slightly, though I think it will as I get used to it!

SilenceInside · 26/05/2026 15:25

Yes, you can work out how many clicks by doing the dose you want in mg divided by the strength of the pen in mg, multiplied by 60.

So, (3.75/5) / 60 equals 45 clicks, as @MoneyJo says.

My OH stayed on 2.5mg for 5 months and has since moved up to 3.0 then currently 3.75mg. She's now lost over 3st and is almost in the healthy BMI range and hasn't felt it necessary to go beyond her current dose.
A low dose can be very effective for some people, don't move up until you find it stops working. @Brokentoes85 it sounds like 2.5mg is doing its job for you currently.

Neither me or my OH have ever had a pharmacy try to get us to increase our doses. The instructions suggest to go to 5mg after one month, but only increase beyond that after consultation with your healthcare professional. A responsible pharmacy wouldn't recommend an increase if the treatment is working. You can continue to order 2.5mg for as long as you want.

Ah right thank you. I thought yesterday I was starting to feel hungry a lot more, but today has been fine. I'll see how tomorrow goes.

@HappyWineDay I really didn't know people stayed on the same dose for longer than the 4 weeks. Guess I didn't do as much research as I thought I did.

Yes some of us are quick responders. I was and I stayed on the lowest possible dose for months before it wore off.

It’s common to feel hungrier towards the end of the week as the medication starts to taper off, but it does vary across everyone. I jab on a Sunday evening and typically I’ll feel hungry on a Friday, but less so on a Saturday! I think it’s coz Fridays dont follow my typical eating pattern.

i think the reason it was such a common thing to go up every month is because the medication was originally for diabetes, so if you had it, it was in your interest to make it as effective as possible, as quick as possible. Obviously for weight loss it’s a different story, but the idea of staying on a low dose for longer is definitely becoming more and more common. It’s a bit frustrating though, the amount of people who want to go on it and say ‘oh it’s fine, I’ll just stay on the lowest dose’ without understanding that it doesn’t work like that, and not everyone responds to the lower doses!

So I've done my first full week and weighed myself this morning. 😬 I've lost 8lbs

Taken my 2nd dose and the food noise has calmed down again and had to rind myself to eat breakfast at midday.

I just want to say don't get discouraged if you never lose as much in a week again. It seems people do often lose a lot in the first week then it settles into a steady loss. I lost 4lb in my first week and about 2 lb a week since, which is a healthy rate.

Yes I did think it wouldn't happen again. Someone said the first week is water that you lose?

I've forgotten to have dinner! That's never happened to me in my life! I can't tell you what a relief it is. I've spent so much time thinking about food, even whilst eating, and I wished I'd started mounjaro years ago.

OP posts:

That's amazing isn't it? I remember hearing some comedian once say she never understood when other women said they forgot to eat. She said she could understand forgetting your keys or your phone but forgetting to eat takes a special kind of stupid! I agreed then but I could easily forget now.

I also find that I sometimes think ooh I could have a snack now. Then I think nah, I'm fine. I would never have had that response before.
